Reneé Rapp Says Her Mom Manifested Her Career By Giving Her a ‘Pop Star' Name

Reneé Rapp can thank her mom for her career in music. Speaking on podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Rapp shared that her mom, Denise Rapp, specifically chose her name to ensure success. 'My mom chose my first and last name to be—well, okay, arguably chose my first and last name to both have R's,' Rapp told Poehler. 'She was like, 'Alliteration, just in case she wants to be a pop star.' Like before I was born.' She added that she's aware the decision was 'conceited,' but said 'I'm obsessed with the way she did it. I'm like, 'Thank you, God.'' Rapp agreed: 'It's a really good one!' Poehler added, 'And Reneé Rapp is a huge pop star.' Elsewhere in the interview Rapp spoke about developing as a singer, meeting Beyoncé, and coming out on Saturday Night Live. She recounted being on SNL and how some of the writers wrote a sketch where she would be referred to as a 'little bisexual intern.' 'At that time I was very publicly bisexual,' Rapp said. 'I had been for a very long time. In private I was talking with my girlfriend and a lot of my friends for the last maybe eight months before that of being like, 'I actually don't really feel very bi at the moment. I feel very much like a lesbian and it feels so nice and that word feels amazing.'' She asked the writers to change the sketch to 'lesbian.' 'Labeling yourself publicly is really, really, really empowering,' Rapp added. 'And also, I think, can be kind of intimidating.' She said that coming out as a lesbian on SNL was 'pretty cunty,' but it felt 'so fucking good' and she 'didn't even look online' at the response after. Earlier this week, Rapp live debuted a new song, 'Leave Me Alone,' at the American Music Awards. 'Leave Me Alone' marked the first release from Rapp as a lead artist since sharing the deluxe edition of her debut album Snow Angel in 2023, and is a glimpse into her forthcoming second LP, Bite Me, out Aug. 1. On the single, Rapp takes jabs at her departure from the recently-cancelled HBO Max series Sex Lives of College Girls and her label chasing her down for new music. 'Signed a hundred NDAs but I still say something/Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun/Took my sex life with me, now the show ain't fuckin',' she sings over banging percussion and blaring guitars. 'Can I tell you a secret/I'm so sick of it all.' Rapp left Sex Lives after two seasons to focus on her music career. The series was cancelled following the conclusion of its third season. By that point, the singer had already moved on to headlining tours in support of Snow Angel, packed festival sets, and a lead role in the film adaptation of Mean Girls: the Musical. US pop star spotted in Celtic tracksuit top at glitzy red carpet ceremony as wild fans say ‘want my season ticket?'

The Capital Summertime Ball, hosted by Capital FM, saw a number of high profile artists descend on Wembley Stadium in London last night including Mariah Carey, Will Smith, Myles Smith, Busted and McFly. Rapp has had a breakout 12 months as she branched into film, playing the part of Regina George in the 2024 musical adaption of Mean Girls. She played the same role on Broadway as a replacement for Taylor Louderman and won new fans with an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Rapp performed several of her favourite songs to the 80,000 strong audience at Wembley wearing a pair of black hot pants, a ripped white t-shirt and leather jacket, plus a pair of heeled boots. Before that outfit change however, she stunned fans by rocking up to the red carpet in CELTIC gear. Rapp sported a green zip-up jacket with a Celtic badge on the chest and the sleeve, with yellow and white lines on the sleeve and collar. The garment looks to be a retro piece from Celtic's days sponsored by Nike. Indeed, a version of the top is going on eBay for £62 at the moment - and it's perhaps no coincidence that it's sold out on second-hand retailer GPS Vintage. She paired the vintage jacket with a grey plaid midi skirt and black knee high boots, with a black handbag and sunglasses for good measure. As images dropped from the red carpet and clips began to circulate of Rapp taking part in interviews wearing the garment, fans rushed to share their excitement. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up One ecstatic fan wrote: "RENEE IN A CELTIC TOP MY NEW PERSONALITY." Another said: "Just saw Renee Rapp in a Celtic jacket, MON THE HOOPS, love her." "Renee Rapp wearing a Celtic jacket today oh she is so real for that," said another. While this fan said: "As if I couldn't be any more in love with her." One astounded Hoops supporter exclaimed: "This is literally life changing @reneerapp lmk if you want a loan of my season ticket." Before this fan commented: "Renee Rapp in a Celtic top is not what I expected to see today." Rapp herself gave a slight suggestion into why she was wearing the jacket - and whether she is a Celtic fan... (she has been spotted at Boston Celtics basketball games before). In an interview with ITN, she confessed to having no knowledge of what tartan is after being quizzed about her plaid skirt. After the reporter noticed the Celtic badge, they said Rapp looked "very Scottish" and could be considered "an honorary Scot". To which she replied: "Yeah, this is all my grandfather... he made this." 7 Rapp seemed unaware of the potential impact of her outfit Credit: ITN 7 She explained that her grandfather had something to do with it Credit: ITN 7 She showed off the badge to a stunned Scots reporter on the red carpet Credit: ITN Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Reneé Rapp drops new single ‘Leave Me Alone'

star is gearing up for the release of her sophomore album by dropping the LP's lead single entitled 'Leave Me Alone'. The singer has also released a music video to support the track which sees the star accompanied by a slew of blonde doppelgängers as they progress from raunchy pillow-fight to all-out brawl. The lyrics of the song seem to nod at the star's exit from the HBO comedy The Sex Lives of College Girls, as she sings: 'Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun. I took my sex life with me, now the show ain't fucking.' Later in the video Rapp can be seen spitting blood with her pantsless comrades. The album Bite Me is released on 1 August. It is the follow up to Rapp's debut album Snow Angel which landed at number seven on the UK Albums Chart. The artist's last single was last year's Lindsay Lohan-sampling collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion for the Mean Girls soundtrack, 'Not My Fault', which Attitude ranked We wrote then: 'Rapp, who has been at the forefront of the recent surge in 'sapphic pop', easily holds her own here with who joins for a killer verse in which she christens herself 'the black Regina George.' The end result is a bratty, glittering earworm that leaves the listener suffering from a big, LESBIAN crush on both artists.' Rapp teased details of the upcoming album in a recent episode of the podcast, saying: 'It's like every song is a snapshot of what I was going through at that particular time.' She went on to reveal: 'I think one of the last songs I wrote, I had such a terrible day. I just had such a bad day and just like bad experiences, and I was like I have nowhere else to go with my thoughts because obviously I can't put them outward in this moment, therefore I will be like mentally just writing.'
