BREAKING: Monnapule Saleng set to leave Orlando Pirates!
The Monnapule Saleng and Orlando Pirates saga could finally be over if the latest update proves to be true. Saleng last played for Pirates in December 2024 with no release explanation given for his absence at the time. There have been many rumours about Saleng's situation with Pirates , with the club and his management both releasing statements. Initial rumours were that the winger was denied a lucrative opportunity abroad a couple of years back. It was also recently claimed that Egyptian giants Al Ahly had agreed a deal to sign him from the Buccaneers. That deal hitting a snag saw him disgruntled and missing training. In March Saleng returned to action for the first time in 2025, having being sidelined by Pirates. His first bit of football came courtesy of Bafana Bafana, an impressive 90 minute outing against Egypt. This in a 1-1 draw in the African Nations Championship qualifiers first leg. However, the player did not make the squad for the second leg in Egypt the next weekend. There had also been rumours that Saleng had signed a pre-contract with Pirates' arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs . Rumours of his exit were also fuelled by his absence as the Buccaneers resumed pre-season training. Furthermore, he was not spotted as the team departed for their pre-season camp of Spain last night. But earlier on Tuesday this publication reported that Saleng was set to join up with Pirates in Spain later this week. But now according to the latest from SABC Sport, he is set to be loaned out to Orbit College. We suffer now to shine later
'New players have come in and it is important to welcome them, and gel as a unit,' said the Chiefs goalkeeper. Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson says the side are currently working to the max in a pre-season camp in the Netherlands so that they can succeed when the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign kicks off. Chiefs' Peterson – 'Laying foundations' 'At the moment we are in pre-season and laying foundations,' said the Amakhosi shot-stopper. 'This why we sweat and suffer now, so we can shine later. At the moment they are busy putting us through our paces and we are pushing the limits. We have a busy season ahead as we are also playing in the CAF Confederation Cup. 'What we do now is important,' he added. 'Not just physically but also as a team, to get togetherness and brotherhood. New players have come in and it is important to welcome them, and gel as a unit, so when the season starts people see we are one force and we hit the ground running.' The 30-year-old Capetonian believes winning the Nedbank Cup last season, Chiefs' first trophy in a decade, can be the stepping stone they need for a more successful campaign next season. Despite winning the cup, Nasreddine Nabi's side finished a disappointing tenth in the Betway Premiership, missing out on a spot in the MTN8 for the second season in a row. 'Lifting the trophy last season was a major boost,' said Peterson. 'We didn't have the best season, but that was a silver lining that we can use as fuel. You can see the determination on the players' faces after lifting that trophy. We want more success and hopefully that can be one of the main building blocks for us. We can use it as a stepping stone and go out and achieve more and win more trophies.' Chiefs have already signed six new players ahead of the new campaign. Defenders Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane and Nkanyiso Shinga, midfielders Ethan Chislett and Siphesihle Ndlovu and striker Flavio Silva have all joined Amakhosi. 'We know most of them, we have seen them play and they have trained with us a few times and we are excited to see them play in the first team' added Peterson. 'Exciting signings' 'Also the new guys (to the PSL) they are exciting signings. We are looking forward to the friendlies we are playing here, where people will get a glimpse (of them). But I think our supporters will see them for the first time in the Toyota Cup.' Orlando Pirates starting XI with potential new signings
Orlando Pirates are expected to spend big during the next transfer period after a disappointing season. The Buccaneers only had the MTN8 to show despite a promising start to the 2024/25 season. Things collapsed towards the end when the team lost the CAF Champions League, the Betway Premiership and the Nedbank Cup. Under Jose Riveiro, Orlando Pirates won five trophies in three season, making them a team to beat in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). With the Spaniard gone, the Sea Robbers have to find a suitable coach who can lift the club. With the new season kicking off in August, the Buccaneers still have plenty of time to bring in new players. The Soweto giants have been linked with several top players in recent weeks but here's how they can lineup with new players: Sipho Chaine (GK) Chaine has been solid in goals and has earned two national caps for Bafana Bafana. The 28-year-old has been the country's second keeper next to Rownen Williams and is expected to feature for Orlando Pirates for many years. Deano van Rooyen (RB) The former Stellenbosch captain has been solid since joining the Buccaneers last year. He has made the right-back position his own. Nkosinathi Sibisi (CB) The former Golden Arrows defender has done well this season and deserves his place in the starting eleven. With experienced players such as Olisah Ndah and Tapelo Xoki still at the club, it remains to be seen what changes will be made. Mbekezeli Mbokazi (CB) The 19-year-old has been exceptional since making his debut for Orlando Pirates earlier this year. Nicknamed 'TLB', Mbokazi is a sure starter going forward. Fawaaz Basadien (LB) With the departures of Paseka Mako and Innocent Maela, the Buccaneers need a quality left-back. Basadien is available and if the Bucs management are willing to pay big money, then Basadien might be in black and white colours next season. Makhehlene Makhaula (DM) The 36-year-old midfielder has been an engine for the team in recent years and will continue once again next season. The club need to find a suitable replacement this coming season in case the midfielder gets injured. Thalente Mbatha (CM) Mbatha has brought energy to the Orlando Pirates midfield and also has an eye for goals. He is not going anywhere anytime soon and should improve his game for sure next season. He has at times been sloppy with his passes but with the right coach, he should fix his game management. Sinoxolo Kwayiba (AM) The Chippa United star has been heavily linked with the Buccaneers in recent weeks. According to some reports, the deal is as good as done. If Kwayiba joins Pirates, then the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi might be forced to improve their game. Relebohile Mofokeng (RW) Mofokeng is under the radar of many teams abroad but it seems no big offer has been made for the Bafana Bafana star. He might stay for another season and if that happens, expect him to be sharper and more clinical. Mohau Nkota (LW) Having earned a Bafana Bafana cap, the 20-year-old winger is one of the players to watch next season for Orlando Pirates. Since his debut last year, Nkota has impressed and can only improve from here. Tshegofatso Mabasa (FW) Mabasa is the best Orlando Pirates striker at the moment, despite Evidence Makgopa being the lead striker. He should be allowed to start matches and given Nkota and Mofokeng's creativity, he should replicate his 2023/24 form.
