Ramachander Rao takes charge as BJP Telangana chief, vows to win local body elections

Senior leader and former MLC N. Ramachander Rao has assumed office as Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Telangana unit president at the party's State headquarters in Hyderabad on Saturday (July 5, 2025). He claimed that the people of the State are looking towards the party as they were disappointed with the ruling Congress. Addressing the media after formally taking charge, Mr. Rao said that his top priorities include ensuring the party wins a majority of seats in the upcoming local body elections and strengthening the party from the grassroots level with a focus on improving its rural base. 'In a brief span of time, the Congress has earned substantial opposition from the public due to its non-implementation of the six guarantees and 420 promises,' he claimed, adding that not a single promise made in the 2023 [Assembly] election manifesto was fully met by the Congress government. Accusing the Congress of deceiving the people, he urged party activists to wage a 'righteous war' (Dharma Yuddham) against the ruling Congress rule in the State and strive to ensure the BJP attains power in the next general elections. He also wrote a letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, stressing the need to fulfill poll promises. Referring to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge's allegations against the Modi government, made at the 'Social Justice Samara Bheri' meeting held at L.B. Stadium on Friday (July 4, 2025), Mr. Rao slammed Mr. Kharge, stating that it was the Congress party that had governed the nation for about 55 years and ruined it. 'Instead of addressing the BC issues, Kharge used the meeting just to make allegations against the Modi government,' he said. Mr. Rao also suspected the sincerity of the State government in implementing the 42% reservation. 'The Congress government would have consulted legal experts before passing the bills for BC reservations if it was really committed to the welfare and advancement of the BCs,' he said, citing legal issues. He also referred to the AICC as the 'All India Cheating Congress'. Rejecting the Congress's claims that the party would retain power by winning 100 MLA seats in the next elections, Mr. Rao said, 'It is not the Congress, but the BJP that will win 100 MLAs and attain power in the state.' Earlier, Mr. Rao offered special prayers at the Bhagyalakshmi temple near Charminar and later paid floral tributes at the Telangana Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park before reaching the party's state office in a rally.

TPCC president questions Kavitha's credibility over letter to Kharge on BC quota

Hyderabad TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud questioned the credibility of BRS MLC K. Kavitha over her letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on BC reservations, and called it a strange move. While speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, along with AICC secretary Ch Vamshichand Reddy and former MLA Sampath Kumar, he asked whether she had written the letter on behalf of the BRS or Telangana Jagruthi. 'It's not clear whom she is representing. The tone and tenor of the letter is quite strange from a person who never spoke a word on BC quota when she was an MP and MLC when her father was the Chief Minister,' he said. Mr. Goud said that Ms. Kavitha's political credibility is at stake and seeing a political vaccum, she has taken up the BC cause after being silent for 10 years. At least, she should prove if she had opposed reduction in BC reservations by her father KCR when he was the CM. The TPCC president refused to speak on Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy's remarks indirectly charging a Minister involved in Banakacherla project, and said that the party's Disciplinary Committee will take a note of it. Kharge's presence Mr. Goud said that Mr. Kharge's presence at the 'Social Justice Samara Bheri' will be a big boost to the 40,000-odd presidents of Congress village units and leaders from all levels. Mr. Kharge is set to address the gathering and give a direction to the party's grassroots leaders. On the Banakacherla project controversy, he took a dig at BRS leader Harish Rao, asking who dined with AP ministers and compromised on Telangana's water share at YSRCP leader Roja's house?

Kharge to attend Cong village chiefs' meet in Hyderabad; TPCC chief slams Kavitha, BRS

Hyderabad, July 3 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge will be the chief guest at the village presidents' commemoration programme being organised by the Telangana Congress at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud said the event is expected to witness the participation of around 40,000 Congress leaders and workers, including village, mandal, and district presidents, Ministers, MLAs, MPs, and Corporation Chairpersons. Kharge will also address the gathering under the theme Social Justice Samara Bheri and will give key directives to the village-level Congress presidents to strengthen the party at the grassroots. Taking a sharp dig at BRS MLC K Kavitha, Goud described her recent letter to AICC President Kharge as 'strange and ironic.' He questioned whether the letter was written in her capacity as a representative of BRS or on behalf of the cultural wing Jagruthi. 'It is bizarre to see Kavitha, who remained silent for a decade, now suddenly speaking on BC issues,' he remarked. Goud accused Kavitha and BRS of political opportunism, stating, 'What did BRS do for BCs in 10 years of power? Can Kavitha point to a single instance where she raised her voice for BCs? Her sudden concern for BCs is nothing but a survival tactic in a political vacuum.' He reiterated that the Congress Party has always stood firmly with the SC, ST, and BC communities, recalling that it was the Congress that provided 42 per cent reservation for BCs in local bodies, along with key benefits in the fields of education and healthcare. He blamed the BRS for losing power due to misgovernance and failing to address the unemployment crisis. 'Let them show us what they achieved in the last decade. If they must protest, let them hold a 'rail roko' to explain their record,' he said. Commenting on BJP's situation, he said it is unfortunate that the party cannot even appoint a BC leader as its state president, proving its lack of seriousness on social justice. Goud also took on BRS leader T Harish Rao for his comments on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and water-sharing disputes, accusing Harish of compromising with the Andhra Pradesh government and spreading lies about the Banakacharla project. 'You went around with AP leaders, had fish soup at Roja's house, and compromised Telangana's water share,' he alleged. In a direct jibe at Kavitha, he questioned whether the alleged property-sharing deals within the BRS had fallen apart. 'The people of Telangana will no longer be fooled. The BRS, which betrayed every section of society, has no moral right to seek votes,' he said. Highlighting Congress' welfare schemes, he said, 'We have given Indiramma houses to the poor and distributed Rs 9,000 crore in just 9 days under farmers' welfare. Social justice is possible only with the Congress Party.' He urged party cadres to ensure the grand success of the Social Justice Samara Bheri rally and said the party's Disciplinary Committee would look into MLA Anirudh Reddy's controversial statements. Goud also took a swipe at Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and former CM K Chandrashekar Rao, calling their bond a 'peculiar political friendship' and questioned, 'What is the connection between the secular Congress and the religious ideology-based parties?'.
