Andhra Pradesh government accords approvals to a slew of projects
VIJAYAWADA: The State government on Friday accorded approvals to a slew of industries. Among those are Krishnapatnam Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), which is set to establish a 350 MW Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Thamminapatnam and Mommidi villages of SPSR Nellore district with a Rs 1,225 crore investment, creating 575 jobs. Furthermore, the government also waived off a Rs 54 crore extension of time fee, contingent on project completion within two years as per the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024. The government also allocated 22.80 acres at MPSEZ in Naidupeta at Rs 50 lakh per acre to Sangam Milk Producer Company Limited to set up a milk and cultured products manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 112 crore. The project is expected to generate 400 jobs. GINFRA Precisions Private Limited secured 121.53 acres in Thimmasamudram of Anantapur district at Rs 8.30 lakh per acre for a Bi-Modular Charge Systems (BMCS) unit for 155 mm artillery guns. The Rs 1,150 crore project, expected to employ 299 people, must meet phase-I obligations within 14 months. Raymond Group will invest Rs 1,201.95 crore to establish textile, auto-component, and aerospace manufacturing facilities in Sri Satya Sai District, creating 6,571 jobs. The projects, located in Raptadu, Gudipalli, and Tekulodu, will receive tailored incentives, including land allocation, capital subsidies, and power tariff reimbursements, to foster industrial development.

Meta Partners with Invenergy, Secures 791 MW of Clean Energy to Power AI-Driven Data Centers
Technology giant Meta has inked a new deal with renewable energy producer Invenergy to buy 791 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind energy. The deal will help meet the increasing electricity needs of Meta's data centers, which have been growing at a rapid pace to support the company's artificial intelligence operations. Both companies confirmed that they had agreed to the deal, which is the latest of a string of renewable energy pacts made by the social media company. The deal also involves four projects currently being developed in Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas, Invenergy said. The power produced will be delivered to local grids, and Meta will get credit for clean energy. Ohio's Yellow Wood Solar Energy Center and Pleasant Prairie Solar Energy Center will produce 300 MW and 140 MW of power, respectively. Arkansas is home to our Decoy Solar Energy Center, which will add another 155 MW to our system. The 196-megawatt Seaway Wind Energy Center will be built in Texas. The financial value of the agreement between the two companies was not revealed. This new deal will bring the Mark Zuckerberg-led company's clean energy partnership with Invenergy to 1,800 MW. The social media giant signed contracts for 760 MW of solar power with Invenergy in 2023. Meta has also struck other clean power deals beyond its Invenergy deal, including 650 MW of solar energy from deals with AES through projects in Kansas and Texas. These initiatives are designed to fuel Meta's growing AI capabilities, which depend on large-scale data processing and energy-intensive computing infrastructure. According to the company, these initiatives are part of its larger bid to match the rapid energy consumption of its AI-focused infrastructure with zero-carbon sources. The company has also announced four solar projects of 595 MW, 505 MW, and two at 200 MW each in Texas this year. The projects contribute to Meta's aggregate renewable energy portfolio, which now exceeds 12 gigawatts (GW). Texas has emerged as a leading solar hub due to favorable factors like abundant sunshine, quick permitting, and ease of connection to the grid. The state led the U.S. in new solar capacity in 2023 and 2024, according to data from the Solar Energy Industry Association. Meta's power strategy involves exploring other forms of clean power, like geothermal and nuclear. The company has invited proposals from nuclear developers and partnered with large-scale solar and geothermal providers.

'A lot of satellites failing at once is worse than occasional failures spread over a decade,' he said, noting that simultaneous outages would stretch resources and emergency response systems. Preventive strategies and shielding technologies may become urgent priorities in the coming years. Although the risk of impact is currently calculated at 4.3%, NASA and other international agencies are continuing to monitor asteroid 2024 YR4 closely. Emergency observations by the James Webb Space Telescope initially helped rule out an Earth-bound strike, but as new data comes in, the trajectory toward the Moon will be reassessed. Scientists agree that while the event is far from certain, preparing for its potential consequences is critical.

Govt launches ₹2.3-cr startup scheme to boost rooftop solar installations
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) on Saturday announced the launch of a Rs 2.3-crore startup innovation challenge with an aim to accelerate rooftop solar installation and renewable energy adoption in the country. This innovation challenge aims to identify and support breakthrough solutions for India's rooftop solar and distributed renewable energy ecosystem, a ministry statement said. It is being implemented under the aegis of MNRE with support from the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), and in coordination with StartUp India, DPIIT. According to the statement, the Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge on Rooftop Solar (RTS) and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Technologies was launched during the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce. The challenge seeks applications from innovators and startups in India, focusing on four key categories to boost renewable energy adoption -- affordability, resilience, inclusivity and environmental sustainability. The challenge is open for a wide range of startups in green tech, IoT, AI, blockchain, construction, energy hardware, fintech, and waste management. Applicants will compete for a total prize pool of Rs 2.3 crore, including Rs 1 crore for 1st prize, Rs 50 lakh for 2nd, Rs 30 lakh for 3rd, and 10 consolation prizes of Rs 5 lakh each. Winners will also get incubation support, pilot implementation opportunities, and mentorship from domain experts and investors, facilitated by MNRE and NISE.
