The awful pictures of a Newport breeder's puppy ear cropping

Moheiz Adam, 38, of Cromwell Road, Newport, pleaded guilty to four offences of carrying out a prohibited procedure, four charges of causing unnecessary suffering and one fraud offence of possessing canine passports. He caused suffering to a number of puppies through the act of 'cropping' their ears. Cropping of dogs' ears is illegal in the UK. It causes pain, trauma and potential future health problems for the animals. Moheiz Adam plead guilty to carrying out a prohibited procedure (Image: Newport City Council) Moheiz's mutilation of dogs, including American bullies, was exposed in 2021 by a BBC Wales investigation into the lucrative trade, through a television programme called 'The hidden world of designer dog breeding'. A specialist regional trading standards team, Operation Cabal, launched its own investigation some months later and found social media adverts for Sons of Adam, operated by Adam, showing images of dogs with cropped ears. Eleven dogs were taken from Moheiz's home in total (Image: Newport City Council) Trading standards officers, in partnership with Gwent Police, raided his home and they took away seven American bully puppies and an adult French bulldog because of the poor environmental conditions they were kept in. Three other dogs, two adult male American bullies and a puppy with cropped ears, were also taken away. Moheiz claimed they had been imported but they did not have the required legal documentation. These passports were blank, ready to be supplied with information on dogs so new owners could falsely claim the animals had been imported with their ears cropped. Moheiz Adam (Image: Submitted) Photos of a dog called Abel were discovered – one with intact ears and one with jagged mutilated ears. Evidence showed that Abel had been bred by Moheiz, which suggests the dog's ears were cropped while in his care. He was ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work and complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Moheiz was disqualified from keeping animals for 15 years. He will have to pay £2,000 towards the prosecution costs.

Breeder arranged for dogs' ears to be cropped in 'barbaric act of cruelty'

Breeder arranged for dogs' ears to be cropped in 'barbaric act of cruelty' Moheiz Adam, 38, also falsified canine passports to suggest the dogs had been mutilated abroad and imported into the country Moheiz Adam, 38, illegally arranged for the ears of American Bulldogs to be cropped in order to sell them for thousands of pounds A dog breeder carried out "barbaric acts of cruelty" against bulldog puppies he was intending to sell after arranging to have their ears cropped in order to make more money. He also arranged for false passports to be produced to claim the animals' ears had been cropped abroad before being imported. Moheiz Adam, 38, was found in possession of American Bulldogs and a pregnant French bulldog, which were kept in poor conditions and one of the animals had their ears cropped. ‌ He was also found in possession of seven canine passports which would allow the new owner to claim their dog's ears had been mutilated abroad and the animal then imported into the UK. ‌ A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday heard the defendant was subject to an undercover operation by reporters from BBC programme, The Hidden World of Designer Dog Breeding, who investigated his business, Sons of Adam. A dog with cropped ears (Image: Newport council ) Appearing on the programme, Adam seemed to facilitate the sale of American Bulldogs with cropped ears, having been contacted by a reporter claiming to be a potential buyer. Article continues below Prosecutor Lee Reynolds said the defendant claimed he could make between £40,000 and £60,000 per litter, and he had had about six litters that year alone. He offered to sell the reporter a puppy for £13,000 who would be available from six weeks old. Adam told the reporter he'd "got a guy" and added: "All of my dogs have been done by him". He added: "If any questions are asked, say you bought it from an Irishman, brought from Europe". ‌ Mr Reynolds said: "It was clear Mr Adam was talking about ear mutilation... He knew the procedure was unlawful and he knew it was causing suffering to the dogs but he put profit before the welfare of these animals." Some of the dogs (Image: Newport council ) The defendant also claimed he was a "dog whisperer" and "knew dogs well", and used social media to advertise American Bulldogs with cropped ears. ‌ On July 12, 2022, representatives from Newport Council attended the defendant's home and discovered American Bulldogs, including one with cropped ears, and a pregnant French bulldog. The animals were kept in poor conditions and seized under the Animal Welfare Act. Several documents were found, believed to be signed contracts and relating to the sale of puppies. The defendant said he sold a puppy for a fee between £3,000 and £8,000. ‌ Adam, of Cromwell Road, Newport, pleaded guilty to fraud and causing unnecessary suffering to animals. The court heard he had nine previous convictions including possessing controlled drugs, possession of a knife, driving with excess alcohol, driving whilst disqualified, burglary, possession with intent to supply class B drugs and public order matters. (Image: Newport council ) ‌ In mitigation, David Pinnell said his client had "made steps to rebuild his life" and wished to move forwards. Sentencing, Judge Eugene Egan said: "You selfishly prioritised your financial interests over and above the welfare of the dogs in this case. You engaged in barbaric acts of cruelty of these dogs and unnecessarily caused them pain. "You lined your pockets in a grotesque, cruel and wholly needless way and the welfare of the dogs were ignored because of your avarice." Article continues below Adam was sentenced to 80 weeks imprisonment suspended for two years. He was disqualified from keeping animals for 15 years, ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work, a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and to pay £2,000 court costs.

Iran's Mediation Offer To India, Pakistan With A 13th Century Poem

New Delhi: As diplomatic and military tensions between India and Pakistan simmer following Tuesday's deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Iran has stepped forward with an offer to mediate between the two countries. Citing centuries-old civilizational ties and invoking a Persian poem from the 13th century, Tehran said it is ready to help defuse tensions in the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday described both India and Pakistan as "brotherly neighbours". "India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbours of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties. Like other neighbours, we consider them our foremost priority. Tehran stands ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to forge greater understanding at this difficult time," he said. Mr Araghchi's statement was accompanied by a quotation from Bani Adam, a famous 13th-century Persian poem written by legendary Iranian poet Saadi Shirazi. "Human Beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul, If one member is inflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain," the poem reads. In parallel with Iran's mediation overture, Saudi Arabia has also sought to de-escalate the situation. According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held separate phone calls with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. "Had a telecon with Foreign Minister @FaisalbinFarhan of Saudi Arabia. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages," Mr Jaishankar said in a statement. The mediation offer came amid concerns over the possibility of escalation between India and Pakistan. On Tuesday, 26 tourists were killed in a terror attack in the town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. India has directly blamed Pakistan for orchestrating the attack through cross-border support for terrorist groups. Pakistan has denied involvement. As tensions grew, military exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC) have also been reported. India responded to the Pahalgam attack with a series of stringent diplomatic and economic measures. On Wednesday, the government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a 65-year-old bilateral agreement governing river water sharing. New Delhi also shut down the Attari land border crossing, expelled Pakistani military attaches, and downgraded diplomatic ties. Additionally, the government directed all Pakistani nationals who had entered the country via the Attari crossing to exit Indian territory by May 1. On Thursday, Islamabad announced the closure of its airspace to Indian commercial flights and suspended all trade with India, including commerce routed through third countries.
