What's Next for Denis Villeneuve's Bond Movie? Amazon's Wishlist Includes Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson

In the 2021 film 'No Time to Die,' Daniel Craig repeats one of the James Bond franchise's most enduring lines to Léa Seydoux: 'We have all the time in the world.' Well, not quite. More from Variety Amazon MGM Partners With Sony Pictures for International Theatrical Distribution Under New Multi-Year Deal Denis Villeneuve to Direct James Bond Film at Amazon Amazon MGM Studios' United Artists, Scott Stuber Board Action-Thriller 'The Seventh Man' From 'Carry On' Writer T.J. Fixman (EXCLUSIVE) Now that Amazon has tapped Denis Villeneuve as the franchise's next director, the pace is about to accelerate significantly on the 26th outing of James Bond. Even still, Amazon is looking at a 2028 release date for Bond 26. Anything sooner would be impossible to pull off, given the film's scale, sources say. Amazon declined to comment for this story. French-Canadian helmer Villeneuve beat out four European directors — Edward Berger, Edgar Wright, Paul King and Jonathan Nolan — for the coveted job. Now, Amazon will move fast to attach a writer, and then an actor who will slip into Agent 007's shoes. Insiders say that the studio and producers are interested in casting a British actor under the age of 30, with Jacob Elordi ('Saltburn'), Tom Holland ('Spider-Man') and Harris Dickinson ('Babygirl') at the top of the list. (Elordi is Australian, but that would not be a deal-breaker as far as Amazon is concerned; remember Aussie George Lazenby starred in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service.') While there has been speculation that Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Henry Cavill would be possible heirs to Craig, they are 35 and 42, respectively, and thus unlikely to fit the mandate. So, too, is fan-favorite Idris Elba, 52, who has ducked Bond speculation for years. (No meetings have happened at this stage.) Alfonso Cuarón was an early contender to direct, and Bond producer David Heyman pushed hard to make that happen, given that the two had worked together on the third 'Harry Potter' movie. But Cuarón removed himself from competition, choosing to focus on other projects, including the Charlize Theron-starrer 'Jane.' That film, which is also on a fast track at Amazon, is awaiting a draft of the script from Jack Thorne, who penned the 'Enola Holmes' trilogy. (It is unclear if Cuarón would direct or only produce 'Jane.') Initially, Amazon was very interested in Christopher Nolan, who is Jonathan's brother, even if that meant breaking a decades-long rule of not allowing a Bond director to have final cut. Until now, the Broccoli family held tight control of the franchise's creative direction, and ultimately had final say. But Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother, Michael Wilson, relinquished the reins earlier this year and now have only a financial stake in the property. Either way, Nolan is tied up on his next project, 'The Odyssey,' which stars Holland, for at least a year. Villeneuve is currently quite busy, too, planning to film 'Dune: Messiah' later this year to make an expected December 2026 release date. For his part, Villeneuve has a one-off deal on Bond, meaning he is not locked in for a sequel, and does not have final cut. The last director to helm two Bond films back to back was Sam Mendes with 2012's 'Skyfall' and 2015's 'Spectre.' Amazon has a short list of writers who will chart the future course for the man with the license to kill as he makes his debut with Amazon after decades at MGM. One scenario making the rounds is that Jonathan Nolan, whose take on the material was enthusiastically received at Amazon, would write the screenplay. Though Nolan has a close relationship with the studio via the series 'Fallout,' sources say he is not available to write. This re-release will also include the first-ever theatrical screening of Spider-Man 2.1, an extended version of Spider-Man 2, in 4K. The longer cut includes new and extended scenes not seen in the original 2004 release. Fall screening schedule for the Spider-Man trilogy The event kicks off on Thursday, September 26, with the 2002 original Spider-Man. The extended cut, Spider-Man 2.1, will follow on Friday, September 27, as per Variety. The trilogy concludes with Spider-Man 3 on Saturday, September 28. For those who missed the first run, an encore weekend is also planned, with the films playing again on October 3, 4, and 5. Tickets will be available starting July 25 on Fathom Events' website and participating theaters. He added, 'At Fathom Entertainment, we celebrate fandom, and I am delighted that Spider-Man 2.1 in 4K will make its theatrical debut, a true gift for longtime fans and a thrilling discovery for new ones.' The trilogy is part of Fathom's ongoing 'Fan Favorites' series, which brings classic films back to the big screen. Earlier entries in the lineup included Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Clueless. Upcoming titles in the series include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Sound of Music, Rocky IV, and Sunset Boulevard. This isn't the first time Sony has re-released the Spider-Man films. In April 2024, Cinemark hosted limited screenings of the full live-action Spider-Man catalog, including Tobey Maguire's trilogy, Andrew Garfield's two Amazing Spider-Man films, and Tom Holland's MCU entries.

Martin Kove Addresses 2024 Cobra Kai Misconduct Allegation, After Biting Co-Star at June Fan Event

Cobra Kai star Martin Kove has denied any wrongdoing involving a sexual harassment allegation that was said to have taken place on set of the Netflix series' final season in Atlanta. According to a report from Deadline, the actor was investigated by series producer Sony Pictures Television after an extra made a sexual harassment complaint against Kove in April 2024. Though the matter was not said to have involved physical contact, it was described as 'leering' and verbally overt enough for the actress to speak up about her discomfort. Studio reps launched an official investigation, speaking to the actress in question and others involved in Cobra Kai's Season 6 production. They also spoke directly to Kove who, at one point, was asked to stay in his trailer while the investigation unfolded. However, the actor was never formally asked to leave the set. Kove has denied any misconduct and called the news 'bizarre,' seeing as the alleged event occurred over a year ago. 'If there was something to confess, I would be the first to say it,' the actor told Deadline. 'Sony did ask me about the alleged incident and I was completely transparent. It wasn't true then, and it isn't true now,' he said. TVLine has reached out to Netflix, Sony Pictures Television and Kove's reps for additional comment. Kove also made headlines earlier this week following an incident that occurred at a fan convention in Puyallup, Wash. The actor bit and attempted to kiss his Cobra Kai co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim's arm. Police were called, but Hannah-Kim ultimately declined to press charges. Kove was asked to leave the event and was escorted out. Kove issued an apology to Hannah-Kim on Tuesday. 'I deeply regret and apologize for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia [Hannah-Kim], a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn't deserve to be put in this position,' he said in a statement. 'I've always respected her and considered her a highly professional and talented co-worker on Cobra Kai. I was being playful in the moment but went too far and there is absolutely no excuse for my behavior. I regret my actions for which I take full responsibility for what I did, and again I apologize to her and her husband. I'm committed to learning from this and it will never happen again.' "The Social Network 2" in Works

Yara Sameh After teasing a potential sequel to his Oscar-winning drama "The Social Network" for years, Aaron Sorkin seems to have found an angle to tackle for his follow-up film. Sources tell Deadline that Sorkin has been tapped to direct "The Social Network Part II" for Sony Pictures. Insiders say that while it's being called part two, it's not a straight sequel but rather a follow-up to the original movie that explored the origins of what would become the world's biggest social media platform. Jesse Eisenberg starred as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in 'The Social Network,' but casting has yet to be announced for the sequel. Part 2 is in development with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin, and Stuart Besser producing. Sorkin's original screenplay for the new movie explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal's "The Facebook Files" by Jeff Horowitz, an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that exposed the inner workings of — and multiple harms caused by — the world's largest social network. Released in 2010 by Sony Pictures and based on Ben Mezrich's "The Accidental Millionaires", "The Social Network" was a huge hit with audiences and critics and earned $226 million at the global box office. The pic had also been nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, the film won three, including Sorkin for Best Adapted Screenplay. Since its release, Sorkin has noted on several occasions his interest in doing a follow-up, but he couldn't find the right angle. Following the events of January 6, 2021, when the U.S. Capitol was attacked, Sorkin found his new inspiration. The filmmaker in an interview last year said that he believed Facebook played a part. Sources stress that the new film isn't a 'January 6' movie" and will focus on "not just on the 2020 election but also Facebook's effect on teens, preteens, violence, and countries outside the U.S." Although the original was directed by David Fincher, Sorkin will take on directing duties for this pic having sharpened his skills since the original Social Network came out. His recent directing credits include "Molly's Game", "The Trial of the Chicago 7", and "Being the Ricardos." read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Next James Bond Odds Latest: Here are the 11 favourites for 007 role - as Scott Rose-Marsh and Aaron Pierre join frontunners

1 . Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 11/8 Aaron Taylor-Johnson had previously been favourite to become the next Bond for months, following news reports that he had agreed to play the iconic role. There's been silence since though, and the lack of an official announcement has cast doubt on his involvement - particularly since Amazon took over creative control of the franchaise. Best known for playing the title character in the 'Kick-Ass' films, Taylor-Johnson also starred opposite Brad Pitt in 'Bullet Train' and is soon to be seen in horror sequel '28 Years Later'. He's now back to the favourite at 11/8 to step into 007's shoes. | Getty Images for Sony Pictures
