Bust Watch cancelled? Concerning Cowboys first-round pick giving coaching staff confidence

The Dallas Cowboys need Tyler Guyton to be better in 2025. After a stinker of a rookie season that saw Guyton essentially benched, the Cowboys went all-in with their 24-year-old left tackle over the offseason. They resisted the urge to bring in a quality free agent and they even parted ways with last season's veteran replacement Chuma Edoga. For better or for worse, it's Guyton-or-bust for 2025. As one can imagine, there was a sigh of relief when Guyton took the field focused and fit for training camp. After working with Tyron Smith a portion of the offseason, Guyton seems like a new man in his second season. Onlookers have noticed a fitter specimen with better bend and technique to his game. At 6-foot-7, 322-pounds, bend is an essential component in order to maintain balance and positioning. While Micah Parsons may not be on the field squaring off against the former Sooner, plenty of quality pass rushers have been putting him to the test. And so far, so good. Until the practices transition to full contact no one will know for sure if Guyton has taken the necessary steps to become a quality LT. He's coming off a season where his focus, discipline and maturity were all called into question and the hill to climb just to get to 'decent' is rather substantial. But the former first rounder has been doing what can be done and showing what can be shown and he's earning praise for it. With the struggles at right tackle with Terence Steele, the Cowboys can ill afford to have two pass protection liabilities bookending their offensive line. One struggling OT can be helped with double teams and chip work, but two struggling OTs is almost impossible to overcome. Guyton's progression isn't just a bright part of camp, it's a season-saving necessity that the Cowboys bet big on. So far that bet is paying off. Soft Bait Release New Album 'Life Advice' + Announce Album Release Tour

Today, Tāmaki Makaurau four-piece Soft Bait release their sophomore album, Life Advice, out now via Flying Nun Records. In support, the band have also announced a release tour of Aotearoa - with shows in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Tāmaki Makaurau, Ōtautahi and Ōtepoti. Soft Bait have been producing off-centre post-punk since their formation in 2020, only sharpening their output since the release of Plot Points - their debut LP released in 2022. Barrelling forward with restless momentum, new album Life Advice is sharp, hook-heavy rock - locomotive bass-lines and live-wire energy fused with musings of online weirdness, distinct Kiwi-isms, and wider reflections on the quiet rituals we fall into, or inherit, without releasing. Along with the release and announcement of a nationwide tour, Soft Bait also share a new music video for album focus-track and uneasy-anthem 'Sooner' where they trade speed for sway; steady, and suspicious. ' Bring in the good news' sings front-man Joshua Hunter - a final manifestation in the face of collective unrest and collapse Life Advice lands like well-meaning wisdom from a mate you definitely shouldn't be taking advice from - half true, half twisted, but still ringing in your ears the next day. The first single, 'New Leaf' dropped on May 22, followed by 'Long Line' on July 3rd - both picking up momentum locally and worldwide, with streaming numbers reaching a new height for the band and play on BBC Radio 6. For fans of Viagra Boys, Squid, Warmduscher, and Yard Act, Soft Bait deliver a raw, unfiltered take on the post-punk genre, grounded in Kiwi culture and the peculiarities of everyday life. Former Longhorn RHP commits to Oklahoma

Boomer Sooner! @OU_Baseball After one year with the Texas Longhorns, RHP Drew Rerick is joining the Oklahoma Sooners. The North Dakota native entered the transfer portal at the beginning of the month. While he struggled during his lone season as a Longhorn, Rerick is still full of potential. During his freshman campaign, Rerick appeared in seven games. In his small sample size, the former Longhorn posted a 9.00 ERA and walked 11 batters. While his fastball tops out in the high nineties, he struggled to limit the damage when runners reached. That is partly why he was used sparingly out of the Texas bullpen. Although his statistics were far from ideal, Rerick was highly regarded out of high school. He was ranked as the 16th-best RHP in his class by Perfect Game. The Fargo Davies product was seen as a potential 2024 MLB Draft pick before deciding to develop his skills at the college level. In Rerick, Oklahoma is adding a pitcher who can get hitters out in multiple ways. His arsenal includes a slider and curveball. The newest Sooner can also throw a Changeup, but that pitch is a work in progress. When Rerick is throwing strikes, he Is a hard pitcher to barrel up. As Rerick prepares for his next opportunity, he is joining an Oklahoma team coming off a very good 2025 campaign. They finished the regular season with a 38-22 record. With an improved pitching staff and more depth in the bullpen, they will be looking to build on their success. While Oklahoma Is taking a gamble on Rerick, it could pay off. At times, he has shown the potential to be a very good pitcher. If Oklahoma can get him to improve his control, then their bullpen will be in good hands.

OU picks up commitment from four-star EDGE rusher

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners picked up their sixth four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class on Monday when defensive end Daniel Norman committed to play for the Sooners. Norman, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound EDGE rusher from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is ranked No. 54 in the state of Florida. He chose Oklahoma over Miami (FL), LSU, Penn State, and others. At On3, the Hurricanes had been tabbed as the team most likely to land Norman. The newest Sooner plays for the same high school that helped produce former OU star and current Denver Broncos star Nik Bonitto. OU now has the No. 21-ranked class in the 2026 cycle, according to On3. Norman's commitment came just three days after the Sooners picked up quarterback Bowe Bentley, one of the top 100 players in the country, and on the same day, Oklahoma picked up a commitment from linebacker Beau Jandreau from Arizona. Oklahoma now has 12 commitments in the class. Those 12 players rank the Sooners ninth out of the 16 teams in the SEC thus far in On3's rankings. OU ranks ninth, as well, in 247's SEC rankings, as well. The class is currently made up of seven defensive players and six on offense. Norman registered 30 tackles and seven sacks for St. Thomas Aquinas in his junior season last year. Oklahoma softball's Ella Parker hits walk-off home run to beat Tennessee in WCWS

Oklahoma softball's path for a fifth consecutive Women's College World Series national championship looked to include the elimination bracket. Ella Parker then changed that. Down to the last out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Parker connected a 0-1 fastball from Tennessee pitcher Karlyn Pickens and sailed it over the centerfield wall at Devon Park in Oklahoma City to give the Sooners a 4-3 win over the Volunteers in the opening round of the WCWS on Thursday. Advertisement "Going into it, I knew our fourth man was in fire. This team has done so much. We just battled and battled and battled. Just knowing that our fourth man was with us, I'm so emotional," Parker told ESPN's Holly Rowe after her walk-off home run. It was also the second home run of the game for Parker, who is the niece of Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "I was just doing whatever to stay loose and pass the bat to my next teammate," Parker told Rowe on what she saw on Pickens' pitch. "Nothing else, just keeping it simple." Advertisement The Volunteers got to Sooners ace Sam Landry early in the top of the first inning with back-to-back hits to put runners on second and third with no outs. Tennessee plated its first run in the inning on a passed ball that got away from OU catcher Isabela Emerling, which allowed Gabby Leach to score from third. Tennessee extended its lead to 2-0 in the first when former Sooner Sophia Nugent brought in Taylor Pannell on a sacrifice fly. The Vols' 2-0 lead was short-lived, as Oklahoma quickly responded in the home half of the inning with a solo home run to right by Parker. Aggressiveness in the third inning helped extend Tennessee's lead to 3-1, when Ella Dodge scored from second on a misplayed ball in left field by Oklahoma left fielder Kasidi Pickering. REQURIED READING: How does WCWS work? Explaining double-elimination format for NCAA softball tournament Advertisement The Volunteers had an opportunity to break the game open in the top of the seventh inning when Nugent came up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. However, Nugent would ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the rally. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Pickens, who holds the NCAA softball record for the fastest pitch at 79.4 mph, the Sooners began their rally with Ailana Agbayani working a four-pitch walk. Agbayani was then brought around to third on a single up the middle from Pickering that got under the glove of Dodge at second base. Parker's heroics in the seventh inning staved off numerous pieces of history for Oklahoma, most notably becoming the first defending national champion to lose its opening round game since 2018, which happened to also be the Sooners. Oklahoma will now take on No. 6 Texas on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in the "winners' bracket" of the WCWS in what will be a rematch of last year's WCWS championship series. The Longhorns shut out No. 3 Florida by a score of 3-0 in the opening game of the 2025 WCWS on Thursday..
