'I Don't Run the Show!' – Sorisha Naidoo Reveals All

She's stylish, composed, and no stranger to drama, but The Real Housewives of Durban's Sorisha Naidoo just made franchise history. With five seasons under her belt and a clean sweep of five reunion appearances, Sorisha now holds the record for the most consecutive reunion shows in Africa's Real Housewives universe. As the only remaining OG in Season 5, she opens up about friendships, regrets, and growth and squashes those 'queen bee' rumours with a laugh. A bittersweet milestone Sorisha Naidoo. Picture: Supplied As fans gear up for the much-anticipated RHOD Season 5 reunion, airing across two explosive episodes on 4 and 11 July, Sorisha's presence feels heavier than usual. That's because her long-time co-star and fellow OG, Nonku Williams, won't be joining her on the couch this year. 'I feel kinda sad, to be honest, because Nonku always jokes that she's 'Miss International' and that she'll be here for many more seasons,' Sorisha shares. 'We've been together from the very beginning, and I feel like she needed to be here for this one.' Still, Sorisha acknowledges the magnitude of the moment. Not only has she outlasted a revolving door of castmates, but she's also cemented herself as the show's emotional centre, a title she doesn't take lightly. Growth, drama and lessons Since the show's debut in 2021, The Real Housewives of Durban has evolved in both cast dynamics and tone. Sorisha has been there through all of it—and says it's been a journey of self-discovery. 'There were amazing seasons, and there were tough ones,' she admits. 'It really depends on the group of ladies. That's what guides your experience and shapes how you respond.' Reflecting on past mistakes, she's honest about moments she wishes she had handled differently. 'There was a time when I was very isolated and quite cliquey… that wasn't the best version of me.' Do you really run the show, Sorisha? Sorisha Naidoo, Picture: Supplied Fans have often joked that Sorisha 'runs' RHOD behind the scenes. So, what does she say to that? 'I don't run the show!' she laughs. 'I'm just a cast member like everyone else. Those comments always crack me up; they're so ridiculous.' Still, when asked who she'd cut if she did call the shots, she doesn't hold back: 'I'd say, Minnie. I just don't think she was the best fit for this group at this time.' Looking ahead (and behind) Real Housewives of Durban cast. Picture: Supplied. If given the chance to revive past favourites, Sorisha's list is short and sweet: Londie, Annie, and Slee. 'I'd want Londie back full-time. Those are my girls.' As for the Season 5 reunion? She promises a must-watch on Showmax. 'The dynamics shift when one of the OGs isn't there… but there's still so much to unpack. If you want clarity, closure, and entertainment, don't miss it.'

Sorisha Naidoo breaks 'The Real Housewives of Durban' record

Long-standing cast member Sorisha Naidoo has shown again why she was dubbed 'the queen' of the show after she recently broke a record for the most reunion appearances on The Real Housewives of Durban. She's the only housewife to appear in every reunion since the franchise launched in 2021 after Nonku Williams did not attend the Season 5 reunion. Before the Season 5 reunion on July 4 and July 11, we sat down with Sorisha to chat about her journey, what she's learnt about herself and who she would chop if she ran the show: How does it feel being the housewife with the most reunions? I feel sad, to be honest, because Nonku always jokes that she's 'Miss International' and she'll be here for many more seasons. I felt she should have been here. It's a bittersweet moment for me. I want to throw it in her face that I've made all five, but she's not here for me to do that. We've been together from the beginning and I feel she needed to be here for this one. As someone who's been here since day one, how has the show changed over the years? The show has taken many twists and turns. I've had the chance to see many different sides of myself. There were amazing seasons and there were tough ones. For me, it depends on the group of ladies. That's what guides your experience and shapes how you respond. Every cast dynamic brings out something different. What's something you've learnt about yourself that you don't like? There was a time when I was isolated and cliquey and I couldn't pull myself out of that space. Looking back, I don't like how I reacted or how I boxed myself in. That wasn't the best version of me and it's something I had to take accountability for. I did that to myself and I've grown a lot since then. Many people say you're the anchor of the show. What would you like to see in future? I'd love to see women come in with a positive mindset, ladies hungry to do more and show different dimensions of themselves. This season had great energy and great women, but I wish we had more fun together. I could see us having a good time, more wholesome, joyful moments. That's what I'd love to see more of. There's a running joke on social media that you 'run the show' behind the scenes. So let's lean into that for a second. If you could chop anyone from this season, who would it be and why? First, I do not run the show. I'm just a cast member like everyone else. Those comments crack me up; they're ridiculous. But if I did run things and had to make a cut, I'd say Minnie. I don't think she was the best fit for this group at this time. That's just me being honest. If you could bring back any former housewives, who would you choose? Definitely Londie, and I'd want her back full-time. And my girls Annie and Slee. Those are my top picks. Why should people watch the Season 5 reunion? People have to watch this reunion. It's going to be different without Nonku. The dynamics shift when one of the OGs isn't there and people will feel that. But trust me, there's still much to unpack. A lot is going to be revealed, things that will make previous episodes make a lot more sense. So if you want clarity, closure and good entertainment, this is a reunion you don't want to miss.

Lo and behold: Nonku's holier-than-thou attitude runs riot in 'The Real Housewives of Durban' season 5

The cast of 'The Real Housewives of Durban' season 5. Image: Supplied Before I delve into the drama of the fifth season of 'The Real Housewives of Durban' (RHOD), I would like to clarify some common misconceptions about reality shows. Yes, they have become the holy grail for TV networks and streaming platforms, propelling the content into trending territory and, in doing so, pushing up the viewership/ streams. Hence, the deluge of content available at any given time and the renewals of popular shows. Of course, the juiciest storylines make the final cut - hence some characters cry foul after finding themselves pegged as villains. With RHOD and shows of a similar ilk, the wardrobe and make-up are always a talking point. The main characters always look cover-ready. I can't imagine how many outfits they go through in one episode, let alone a whole season, including the reunion episodes. And I highly doubt that the bill is footed by the production house. My rambles are going somewhere, I promise, so please bear with me. I was looking forward to the new season of RHOD. After a lacklustre first season, it got progressively better in entertaining streamers. I have been a fan - the drama was de-stressing, for sure, especially in season four, where the divide among the cliques was like the parting of the Red Sea. Some made it to the new season, others didn't. OGs Sorisha Naidoo and Nonku Williams are back alongside season 2's Jojo Robinson and season 4's Angel Ndlela. They are joined by Kwanele Kubheka (aka Fafa), Lo Sithole and Ayanda Mthembu. Minenhle "Minnie" Ntuli and Precious Udoye are brought in as friends of friends but end up taking up a chunk of the screentime. New faces are brought in to shake up the dynamics and elevate the drama. After all, it's about being a fly-on-the-wall in the lives of the rich and famous. Even when talking about wealth, there are levels and, on this show, Sorisha is in a league of her own, which is probably why Nonku was riled up so much throughout this season. How can she compare with a billionaire status when a R10 million lawsuit threat puts the fear of God into her (pun intended)? Video Player is loading. You would think that, by them sharing similar religious values, they would get along like a house on fire. Not. At Lo's event, Nonku's tardiness and inappropriate attire displeased Lo. Furthermore, her request for a royal guest to pass the chicken was considered gauche. Nonku brushed it off as her simply being fashionable late and defended her Robert Cavalli outfit, which cost R150k, as her interpretation. Since then, the two have been going for the jugular. If pettiness were a person, Nonku's picture would be right next to it. She seized every opportunity to take a dig at Lo and was determined to expose her for lying about not drinking. Lo was no pushover, though, even though Nonku made it clear that she is the OG and newcomers must stay in their lane. Lo stood her ground. She likened Nonku's outfit to something off Shein. But she didn't stop there, she took it further by making comparisons between it and a Checkers Shoprite packet. Ouch. Then the supporting characters briefly became the main ones when Minnie exposed Precious, who runs a hair business, for being a toxic boss. This conversation got heated several times before Precious removed herself from the group. Sorisha was her usual zen self after mending fences with Jojo, who also channelled a similar disposition. However, she did get in a few low blows. However, she wasn't popular for her feedback on the Minnie-Precious situation. And Minnie called her out about showing her privilege in her retort about people having the option to leave if they are unhappy. Her comment about Nonku and Lo finding middle ground at a Checkers near them was below the belt, even if it was said in jest. Sorisha also stirs things by bringing a surprise guest to the girls' trip, but I won't say more. Oh, and Somizi Mhlongo makes a cameo at her event. Ayanda, who had her twin sister join her on the show, is sweet-natured. I know she's got daddy issues and childhood trauma from bullying. But that's about it. Aside from having a bone to pick with Lo, Nonku also took a few potshots at Fafa over her marital woes. Now, if memory serves me correctly, didn't Nonku have a child with a married man (as revealed in season one)? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Nonku Williams foot-in-mouth syndrome is on another level in season five of 'The Real Housewives of Durban'. Image: Supplied

‘I love a challenge' – Londie London ready to return officially on RHOD

Seven weeks in, and we are still kept on the edge of our seats. It has been one dramatic scene after another. We've seen OGs Nonku Williams and Sorisha Naidoo trying to figure out their on-and-off friendship, Angel Ndlela and Jojo Robinson forming a surprising connection, Kwanele Kubheka opening up about her marriage, Lo Sithole challenging Nonku, newcomers Precious and Minnie Ntuli clashing over Precious's hair business, and Season 2 alumni Londie London returning to the show as a friend. The Real Housewives of Durban Season 5 has served all kinds of tea. One that's got a lot of people riled up, though, is Londie London's return. Despite some people not being happy about her return, she says it's been amazing to be back, especially now that she's in a comfortable space in my life. From the time she left, she admits that a lot has changed. 'The show has changed drastically for me. It is not just about the new faces; the overall energy and atmosphere are completely different. This season, I am focused on bringing more positivity and sharing what it feels like to rediscover yourself as a single mother.' Read more | 'I don't think Her Majesty's apology was sincere' – Noksie on The Mommy Club reunion To the suspected intimidation from the other ladies, she says she understands why Minnie, in particular, was hostile but she's surprised at how fast it all took a turn. 'Not at all. I am still surprised at how fast things have changed between us, and there is still more to come. Everyone will just have to watch the season and see how it all plays out. 'I do not think the women expected me to return, and being a public figure adds another dimension. People often form opinions based on what they see in the media and miss the opportunity to get to know who you truly are. That gap in understanding can create tension before any words are even exchanged,' she adds. Yet again, with the few appearances she's made thus far, Nonku and she were on each other's necks. Londie explains why they are always clashing. 'We are both strong personalities, and that naturally leads to tension. I also think Nonku does not respond well to being held accountable. I am very straightforward, and I say things as they are, which can be uncomfortable for some people.' Despite this, Londie adds that she stays in touch with Nonku, Jojo, and Sorisha, who holds a very special place in my heart. 'I am ready to address everything that needs to be said, and I have the perfect dress for the moment.' From the warm reception, viewers have called for Londie to officially return as a cast member. To their delight, Londie would be more than glad to accept the challenge. 'I love a challenge, and I think the group needs a bit of sass and spice to keep things exciting,' she concludes.
