Actor and producer Soubin Shahir appeared before police in Kochi on Tuesday for questioning in connection with a financial fraud case linked to the hit Malayalam film Manjummel Boys. After questioning at the Maradu police station, Soubin told reporters that he provided all the documents sought by investigators and also submitted his mobile phone on time. Soubin Shahir both starred in and produced Chidambaram's Manjummel Boys. Soubin Shahir clarifies news of arrest in financial fraud case On Tuesday, news broke that Soubin, along with his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Anthony, had been arrested and released on bail. However, Soubin denied that he had been arrested, claiming he had been at the police station for questioning. According to PTI, he said, 'I believe the investigators are now convinced by the facts. Let them examine the documents and take a decision.' Police sources, however, confirmed that Soubin was granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court, as per PTI, explaining why his arrest was not recorded. The financial fraud case involving Manjummel Boys team Soubin was interrogated in connection with a complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathura, who alleged that the producers promised a 40 per cent profit share over his ₹7 crore investment during the production of Manjummel Boys. As per the court's order, Maradu police are continuing their investigation and have submitted a report to the HC. The report alleges that the accused conspired to cheat the complainant. According to an Asianet report, the court had directed that the actor be present for questioning while granting anticipatory bail. The court also directed that the accused should not be questioned in custody and should be released on bail if arrested. The HC rejected the producers' request to quash the case and turned down the police's request to question them in custody. According to Sacnilk, Manjummel Boys made ₹240.5 crore worldwide. It is the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 and the second highest-grossing Malayalam film ever after Prithviraj Sukumaran's Mohanlal-starrer L2 Empuraan. With inputs from PTI

Kochi (Kerala) [India], July 8 (ANI): Actor Soubin Shahir was arrested in Kochi, allegedly in a financial fraud case related to the film 'Manjummel Boys'. The court had granted anticipatory bail, and he will be released after recording his arrest, as per the Kochi police. The police had registered a case against Soubin Shahir, an actor-producer, and Shawn Antony, a producer, on a complaint by Siraj Valiathara Hameed that they had not paid him the share of the profit made from the movie, despite his contribution of Rs 7 crore towards its production. Siraj, in his complaint, had mentioned that the producer duo did not even pay him his share of investment for making the movie and that they transferred the profits to their own accounts. This was a violation of the investment agreement he had executed with the producing company, as per the Kochi police. Earlier in 2024, after the success of 'Manjummel Boys', the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched an investigation into alleged financial irregularities by Soubin's Parava Films. On the work front, Soubin started his film career as an assistant director in the industry with Siddique's Chronic Bachelor (2003). He is known for his works in Charlie (2015), Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016), Kali (2016), Darvinte Parinamam (2016), Kammatipaadam (2016), Anuraga Karikkin Vellam (2016), Mayanadhi (2017), and Kumbalangi Nights. His first full lead role was in the film Sudani from Nigeria (2018) for which he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. In 2024, he played the role of Siju David in 'Manjummel Boys'. Malayalam actor and producer Soubin Shahir has clarified that he was not arrested in connection with the financial fraud case related to the blockbuster film Manjummel Boys. Speaking to the media after two days of questioning by the Maradu police, Soubin said reports of his arrest were incorrect. 'We have the documents in our hands and the figures that are still to come. The payments are still pending. All the documents prior to this have already been submitted,' Soubin said while talking to the reporters outside the police station, adding that he trusted both the police and the court. 'We went for arbitration,' says Soubin The Maheshinte Prathikaaram actor, who also co-produced Manjummel Boys, alleged that the complaint against him was based on false financial claims. 'The figures they are quoting are wrong. All the correct figures have been submitted. We have already paid. They are the ones who filed the case. We went for arbitration — they were the ones who didn't show up,' he said. He also clarified that no further summons had been issued. 'They said they will inform us if needed,' he added. Father Babu Shahir and co-producer Shawn Antony also questioned Soubin was interrogated in connection with a complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathura, who alleged that the producers promised a 40 per cent profit share in return for his Rs 7 crore investment during the film's production. Siraj claimed he neither received the profit nor a refund. Maradu police also questioned Soubin's father and co-producer Babu Shahir, as well as producer Shawn Antony, in the case. Soubin Shahir's 'Romancham' gets an OTT release date While Soubin has denied being arrested, several reports stated that the actor and his co-producers were briefly arrested and released on bail due to anticipatory bail granted earlier by the High Court. The court had directed that the accused should not be questioned in custody and should be released immediately if arrested. The High Court had also refused to quash the case, and turned down the police's request for custodial interrogation. According to the investigation report filed by the police, the accused misled the complainant into believing that the film's first schedule was complete before filming had actually begun. Authorities are now pressing for a thorough audit of the film's revenue, given its massive commercial success. Manjummel Boys becomes Malayalam cinema's top grosser of 2024 Directed by Chidambaram, Manjummel Boys stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi , Deepak Parambol, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., and others. The survival drama is based on a real-life incident at the Guna Caves in 2006. According to Sacnilk, the film has collected Rs 240.5 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 and the second-highest of all time, behind L2: Empuraan. Earlier this year, legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja also filed a case against the producers for unauthorised usage of the iconic song Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan from the 1991 Tamil film Gunaa.
