Bluesfest Day 6: Sean Paul adds a dash of dancehall
Article content Earlier in the evening, Kardinal Offishall took his warm-up duties seriously during a lively main-stage set that was a late addition to the program after G-Eazy pulled out due to scheduling conflicts. Article content Article content With fellow Canadian Karl Wolf on stage alongside him, the Toronto-based rapper took fans on a fun ride that showed his Jamaican roots while also making fun of the 'weirdos down South' and wondering if anyone in Ottawa actually had any rhythm. Article content Article content Earlier, the main-stage party got off to a fantastic start with Dystoh, the fairly new, made-in-Ottawa duo of Ray Tabana and Phil Motion, both widely known and respected for their membership in the legendary local outfit, Souljazz Orchestra. Article content Article content Article content With Tabana on baritone sax, Motion on percussion and some percolating electronica in the air, the pair demonstrated their Afro-Latin and reggae influences in a super-charged set that included a couple of Souljazz tracks along with the funky Dystoh grooves. Article content As fans got into the dancing, both musicians looked to be having the time of their lives showing off their vibrant new project on the big Bluesfest stage. Article content Elsewhere on site, the blues was represented by B.C. troubadour Harry Manx, who brought singer-keyboardist Geneviève Jodoin to join him and his instruments on the LeBreton stage. Article content Article content Between songs, the Saltspring Island resident lightened the mood with weed jokes and other nuggets of wisdom. One example: 'Blues is not about feeling bad,' he said, 'it's about making other people feel bad.'

Bluesfest adds Kardinal Offishall to July 17 bill
Ottawa Bluesfest organizers have added Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall to the program of this year's festival, which runs July 10-20 at LeBreton Flats Park. The Jamaican-Canadian artist known as Canada's hip-hop ambassador will fill the July 17 main-stage slot vacated by American rapper G-Eazy, who pulled out recently because of scheduling conflicts. Offishall, whose real name is Jason Harrow, has been producing and rapping since the early '90s, emerging from the Toronto hip-hop scene when he was nominated for a Juno award in 1996. He's since won multiple Junos, become a judge on Canada's Got Talent and is still going strong. A new track called Let Em Out came out last month, the first single from his long-awaited upcoming EP, Everyday, Sometimes. The night of July 17 is shaping up to be an epic summer party on the RBC Stage, with Kardi's lyrical hip hop kicking things off for dancehall superstar Sean Paul, who also has Jamaican roots, plus a warm-up set by the groove-friendly local duo Dystoh, a new act made up of two members of the legendary Ottawa band, Souljazz Orchestra. G-Eazy dropped from Bluesfest lineup over 'scheduling conflict'
American rapper G-Eazy is no longer coming to Ottawa to play Bluesfest in July because of what organizers described as an 'unforeseen scheduling conflict.' Article content The artist best known for the 2015 chart-topper Me, Myself and I had been booked to play the RBC Main stage on July 17. His appearance was sandwiched between the headliner, dancehall pioneer Sean Paul, and the opener, the Ottawa duo of Dystoh, a dance-y side project for two members of Ottawa's Souljazz Orchestra.
