USC women's basketball announces nonconference schedule for 2025-2026 season

While the start of the 2025 college football season is just around the corner, college basketball is also not all that far away. On Tuesday, USC women's basketball released its nonconference schedule for the 2025-2026 season. The Trojans will certainly not be shying away from high-profile opponents this year. USC's nonconference slate includes matchups with the two teams who played in last year's national championship game in South Carolina and UConn, as well as a trip to South Bend, Indiana to take on annual powerhouse Notre Dame. Let's take a look at the Trojans' full nonconference slate: Vs. New Mexico State, November 4 USC will tip off its season at Galen Center in early November. Vs. North Carolina State (in Charlotte), November 9 It will not take long for Lindsay Gottlieb's team to face their first real test of the season. Less than a week in, the Women of Troy will travel across the country to take on NC State at Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Vs. South Carolina (at Arena), November 15 USC will take on the defending national runners-up in Dowtown Los Angeles in an early season showdown. Vs. Portland, November 18 The Trojans will return to Galen Center for a matchup with Portland on November 18. At Notre Dame, November 21 After falling to the Irish at home last season, USC will make the trip to South Bend in 2025. Vs. Tennessee Tech, November 25 The Trojans will spend Thanksgiving week at home with a matchup against Tennessee Tech. Vs. Pepperdine, November 28 The Waves will come to Galen Center for a Southern California showdown on Black Friday. Vs. Saint Mary's, December 2 The Women of Troy will host a West Coast Conference foe to kick off the month of December. Vs. UConn, December 13 In a rematch of the past two Elite Eights, USC and UConn will square off at Galen Center. Both teams will be without their respective superstars from last season, however, as the Huskies' Paige Bueckers is now in the WNBA, and the Trojans' Juju Watkins will almost certainly still be recovering from the ACL injury that she suffered during last year's NCAA Tournament. Vs. Cal Poly, December 18 In one final tune-up game against a mid-major opponent, the Trojans will host Cal Poly. Vs. Cal (In San Francisco), December 21 USC will close out nonconference play with an old Pac-12 showdown in the Bay Area. Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua gives his thoughts on the USC rivalry and the CFP format

Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua spoke with members of the media today, and gave his thoughts on the USC rivalry continuing along with changes to how the College Football Playoff will select teams. While the CFP is important, keeping the annual game with the Trojans was at the top of his mind. Bevacqua said that 'we want to play USC every year. I think it would be a horrible thing if we don't. I think it would be bad for us … college football. And USC knows that,' as reported by Pete Sampson. It's a familiar tone that has been presented by many in South Bend including Marcus Freeman, they want this game to keep happening every season. The Irish AD wasn't shy about exploring other options to keep the rivalry alive, as Bevacqua also said that they'd be willing to move the date around and even play the game at a neutral site. It very much looks like Notre Dame will do whatever it takes to continue the series. As for the CFP, he likes it as is, with each power conference champion gaining an automatic bid with 11 at-large teams if expansion makes it to 16-teams. The Big Ten and SEC are trying to flex their muscle to make it easier for their conference teams to make it in, which doesn't make much sense. Bevacqua wants teams to 'earn it on the field,' which makes complete sense. Overall, it looks like he knows exactly what he wants for the future of Notre Dame football and the sport in general, and it was great to see him reiterate those points as the season preparation begins on Thursday for the Irish. Notre Dame football position preview: Questions abound at tight end

SOUTH BEND—For five straight seasons, Notre Dame football's leading receiver has been a tight end. From 2020-22 it was consensus All-America Michael Mayer leading the way, including a tie with wideout Javon McKinley as a freshman. The past two years, Mitchell Evans topped the list, although with far more modest totals than Mayer posted. Now that Evans is in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers, the five-year streak could be in jeopardy. In 2019 Chase Claypool outpaced tight end Cole Kmet in catches (66-43). Eli Raridon enters his senior year with 16 career catches and a block-first reputation. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock is on record predicting 'a huge season' for Raridon this fall, but that will require instant chemistry with a first-time starting quarterback to be determined. Holdovers Kevin Bauman and Jack Larsen return, but promising junior Cooper Flanagan could miss the bulk of the regular season as he recovers from a torn left Achilles suffered in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia. 'More like Superman:' What Notre Dame football greats say about Jeremiyah Love Flanagan has five catches through two seasons but consistently earned playing time last year with his blocking prowess. That leaves Arkansas transfer Ty Washington and four-star freshman James Flanigan as potential wildcards. Like Raridon, Washington was mostly counted on to block during his three seasons at Arkansas. Denbrock tried to recruit him to Cincinnati out of high school, so the connection is there, but Washington has just 14 catches for 212 yards and four scores in his career. Flanigan, the son of former Irish defensive tackle Jim Flanigan, is a freak athlete who also starred in hockey and track and field during his Wisconsin prep career. The younger Flanigan, who also played defense, piled up 21 sacks and 26 touchdown grabs over his final three seasons. 'I wouldn't discount young James Flanigan,' Denbrock told reporters this summer. 'He's got size, he's got power and he's a mature kid for his age.' Depth chart 9 | TE | Eli Raridon | 6-7, 251 | Sr. (1L)-& 84 | TE | Kevin Bauman | 6-5, 253 | Gr. Son of Notre Dame alum Julius Jones expressed admiration for Teddy Jarrard

A Notre Dame great's son has good things to say about Fighting Irish quarterback commit Teddy Jarrard. Julius Jones Jr., son of former Notre Dame running back Julius Jones, said this about Jarrard: "Notre Dame got a dog. Glad he gets the chance to play at the next level. A great QB like him at a school makes most WR heads turn." The elder Jones played in the NFL and was a star at Notre Dame, and Jones Jr., who is a four-star wide receiver, is being recruited heavily by the Irish. Jones Jr. is the number 66 overall player and number 14 receiver in his class. What a world it would be if the commitment of Jarrard is what gets Jones Jr. to commit to Notre Dame. Report: Notre Dame to unofficially host 5-star Penn State commit in hopes of a flip

The recruiting battles between Notre Dame and Penn State continue, and this time it's the Irish attempting to flip a 2027 Nittany Lions commit. Kemon Spell made his verbal to PSU in August of 2024, but according to a report by 247Sports Tom Loy, the 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound star running back will make an unofficial trip to South Bend when they host Texas A&M on Sept. 13th. That's not the only visit the country's No. 9 overall prospect according the 247Sports Composite will visit, as trips to see Penn State, Florida State and Alabama will happen during the season as well. The report also states that Spell will try and make it out to a game against Ohio State, all of which means that he most likely could be heading towards flipping to another school. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, but the Irish would love to have another 5-star prospect entering its program. At the current moment, Notre Dame has three commits in the 2027 class, highlighted by quarterback Teddy Jarrard. We are sure that he'd love to see Spell in the backfield with him in South Bend.
