RNLI called after person jumps from Eastbourne Pier

A person has been taken to hospital with "suspected spinal injuries" after jumping from Eastbourne Pier, the RNLI crews said they helped to rescue someone who had jumped from the East Sussex pier at about 20:15 BST on RNLI said it was urging people to "think twice" before jumping from piers, groynes or other sea walls due to the risk of hidden underwater HM Coastguard spokesperson confirmed its rescue teams also attended, alongside ambulance crews. An RNLI spokesperson said in a social media post: "Hidden underwater hazards, sudden changes in water depth, strong tides, and the risk of cold water shock can all turn a split-second thrill into a tragedy. "Even experienced swimmers can get caught off guard."The spokesperson urged people to call 999 or 112 in a coastal emergency and ask for the coastguard.A coastguard spokesperson added: "Alerted at around 8.15pm, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Birling Gap and Eastbourne and an inshore lifeboat from Eastbourne RNLI were sent to the scene."The person was located and recovered to a place of safety before getting transferred to hospital."South East Coast Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.

Police confirm fatality following incident on Rocky Lane, Haywards Heath

Sussex Police has confirmed that a motorcyclist has died following a collision. Emergency services were called to the A272 Rocky Lane, near to the junction of Cedar Avenue, in Haywards Heath on Friday evening. Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance service attended the scene and despite urgent life-saving attempts a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said he was in his 20s and that has family has been informed. On Saturday morning the force said that Rocky Lane was closed from Virginia Drive to Bolnore village roundabout while the investigation continues. A statement issued by Sussex Police said, "We are seeking witnesses after a motorcyclist died in a collision in Haywards Heath. The single vehicle collision happened on A272 Rocky Lane, near the junction with Cedar Avenue, Haywards Heath, on Friday (25 July) at around 10.20pm. "Emergency services attended and despite immediate life-saving action given, the man, aged in his 20s, sadly died at the scene. His family has been informed. "Rocky Lane, closed from Virginia Drive to Bolnore village roundabout while the investigation continues, has now reopened. "In the meantime, we are urging anyone who may have witnessed the motorcycle being ridden prior to the collision, or captured CCTV or dash cam footage, to email quoting Operation Ninewest."

Man charged with murder after body found inside Dartford home

A man has been charged with murder after the discovery of a body at a home in Dartford. Officers were called to a property in Dunlop Close following reports of concern for a person in Dunlop Close on July 5. South East Coast Ambulance crews also attended, and a man in his 60s was found at the property. An investigation was launched and enquiries led detectives to believe the death was suspicious and they made an arrest on July 17. On July 19, Dorin Ciorba, 29, of Longbridge Road in Barking, was charged with murder. He was also charged with robbery. He was remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates' Court later that day. Broadstairs woman reunited with life-saving ambulance crew

A woman who survived a brain haemorrhage, stroke and spinal cord infarction caused by a ruptured aneurysm has been reunited with the ambulance crew who helped save her Dougherty, 34, from Broadstairs in Kent, fell seriously ill on 6 October 2019 while out with her partner and young daughter, Jade, and began having minutes of 999 being called, a South East Coast Ambulance Service crew, that included operational team leader Rob Macer and crewmate Edward Ashby, arrived at the Dougherty said: "My daughter was seven and although she was extremely scared, she remembers the kindness they showed in that scary time." Mr Ashby said he had "always wondered what happened to Sophie"."It was extremely rewarding for us to get the opportunity to reunite with her six years on," he added. 'Incredibly moving' Ms Dougherty was taken to the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and given a blue-light transfer to King's College Hospital in London, where specialist neurosurgeons were on underwent multiple emergency operations and spent more than six months in hospital, including time in intensive her recovery, Ms Dougherty has been supported by her daughter, now 13, who has become her primary carer."Jade's been my rock," Ms Dougherty said."She's had to grow up so quickly, but she's never once complained. I honestly don't know how I'd have coped without her."Mr Macer said it was "incredibly moving" to see the role Jade had played in her mother's recovery.
