JDT edge Al-Riyadh as Figueiredo finds the net
KUALA LUMPUR: Super League giants Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) wrapped up their pre-season tour in Spain on a positive note after securing a 1-0 victory over Saudi club Al-Riyadh SC today (July 22). National team heritage player Joao Figueiredo netted the only goal of the match in the 10th minute, marking his first goal for the Southern Tigers since joining the team. The narrow win provides a sweet end for Xisco Munoz's squad after a challenging series of pre-season matches in Spain throughout July. JDT had earlier suffered two consecutive defeats, losing 1-0 to Qatari club Al-Rayyan SC and Valencia Mestalla, results that initially sparked concern among supporters. Earlier, the 11-time Super League champions had beaten Real Murcia Imperial 4-0 and edged Costa City 1-0. JDT also recorded two draws against Cardiff City (2-2) and Levante UD (0-0). The match against Al-Riyadh was JDT's final pre-season fixture before they return home to face their first match of the new season. The Southern Tigers will kick off their 2025-2026 season campaign with a Charity Shield clash against Selangor at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Aug 8.

JDT register second win in Spain
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) goal machine Bergson Da Silva proved his scoring prowess again by netting the winner in the 1-0 triumph over Spanish club Costa City in their pre-season tour yesterday. The goal from the Brazilian forward in the 68th minute was enough to secure a second consecutive win for the Southern Tigers, who are in a pre-season tour in Spain. The clash, held at Estadi Olimpic Camilo Cano, served as a testing ground for Xisco Munoz's men to gauge their strength after previously thrashing Real Murcia Imperial 4-0. Bergson also got his name on the scoresheet against Real Marcia, bringing his total to two goals so far in the team's pre-season in Spain. This victory is a boost for the 11-time consecutive Super League champions ahead of their next match against Cardiff City on Thursday. JDT will face two more Spanish clubs, Levante UD on July 12 and Valencia Mestalla on July 14, both expected to be held at venues around Alicante. Their pre-season continues with tougher challenges as JDT are slated to face three clubs from the Arab region - Al Rayyan SC (July 16) and Al Arabi SC (July 19) from Qatar, as well as Riyadh FC from Saudi Arabia on July 21. JDT's new coach, Xisco Munoz, is expected to give the team's new players opportunities to adapt to his playing style. This pre-season tour is an important platform for JDT to build momentum ahead of the M-League, AFC Champions League (ACLE), and the Asean Club Championship for the 2025-2026 season. With new players like Jairo Da Silva, Hector Hevel, and Antonio Glauder gelling well, the Southern Tigers fans surely have high hopes of seeing their team continue to dominate domestically, and shine on the Asian stage.

JDT Sign Joao Figueiredo to Boost 2025 Super League Bid
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) may have won the Super League 11 consecutive times, but that doesn't mean they are about to rest on their laurels. And the Southern Tigers have wasted no time in strengthening their squad by adding new national heritage player Joao Figueiredo to their ranks as they set their sights on conquering everything in front of them in the coming season. The signing, announced via the club's official social media platforms today, also stated that the Brazilian-born forward will don the No. 25 jersey. 'Joao Figueiredo brings his commitment and determination to Johor Darul Ta'zim FC. Joao Figueiredo makes Johor home with a move to the Southern Tigers,' the club added. Figueiredo joins JDT from Istanbul Basaksehir, where he grabbed seven goals and two assists in the Turkish Super League last season. The 29-year-old announced his arrival in style when he scored the opening goal en route to helping the Harimau Malaya to a 4-0 win over Vietnam in second 2027 Asian Cup Group F qualifying match at Bukit Jalil National Stadium here on June 10. With Figueiredo joining their ranks, JDT now have three heritage players to spearhead their Super League challenge, with the other two being Dutch-Malaysian midfielder Hector Hevel and Spanish-Malaysian centreback Jon Irazabal.
