Soybeans Falling on Friday Morning

Soybeans are continuing this week's weaker path with contracts kicking off Friday with losses of 7 cents in the front months. Futures saw mixed trade at Thursday's close with August down 1 ½ cents and other contracts fractionally to 2 cents higher. Preliminary open interest was down 10,498 contracts on Thursday. The cmdtyView national average new crop Cash Bean price was up 1 1/4 cents at $9.73 1/4. Soymeal futures are back down $1.00 to $2.50/ton. Soy Oil was 37 to 53 points higher. USDA's weekly Export Sales report tallied old crop soybean bookings at 160,872 MT in the week ending on 7/17. That was back down 60.8% from last week but up 81.5% from the same week last year. The Netherlands was the top buyer of 116,800 MT, with 67,900 MT sold to Mexico. The new crop total was 238,816 MT, a 4-week low. Unknown destination was the top buyer of 120,000 MT. Soybeans were under pressure heading into the weekend, with contracts down 3 to 6 cents, as August was down 29 cents on the week and November slipping just 14 ¾ cents. The cmdtyView national average new crop Cash Bean price is down 3 3/4 cents at $9.70 3/4. Soymeal futures were back down $1.60 to $1.80/ton, as August was $6.20 lower on the week. Soy Oil was 22 to 23 points lower on Friday, but managed 67 point gains this week. USDA reported a private export sale of 142,500 MT of soybeans sold to Mexico this morning for new crop shipment. Soybeans failed to hold onto the midday gains, as futures were pressured lower into the close, down 2 to 4 ½ cents. The cmdtyView national average new crop Cash Bean price was down 2 1/2 cents at $9.72 1/4. Soymeal futures were back down 40 cents to $1.80/ton. Soy Oil was back to higher trade, with gains of 29 to 51 points. Japan and the US agreed to a trade deal that was announced late on Tuesday. Tariffs will be set at 15% starting August 1. Japan will buy $8 billion of US goods including soybeans according to the White House fact sheet. The US and Indonesia also agreed to a deal, which would set US tariffs on Indonesian goods at 19% on most goods, with Indonesia eliminating most tariffs on US goods. Much of the trade focus is on the EU and Chinese trade talks and getting details nailed out before shipping season starts in a couple months. Soybeans are up 5 to 6 cents early on Wednesday AM trade. Futures were off their intraday lows on Tuesday but still settled with losses of fractionally in the new crop months as 2 ½ to 4 ¾ cents in the nerabys. Preliminary open interest rose 6,875 contracts on Tuesday. The cmdtyView national average new crop Cash Bean price was down 1/2 cent today at $9.76 3/4. Soymeal futures are trying to break out, with Tuesday gains of 30 cents to $3.30/ton. Soy Oil was pressured by crude oil weakness, down 35 to 44 points. Ahead of a meeting with Chinese counterparts, Treasury Secretary Bessent expects to see the tariff deadline of August 12 extended. Japan and the US agreed to a trade deal that was announced late on Tuesday. Tariffs will be set at 15% starting August 1. It also expects to boost rice imports by Japan, with Japan buying $8 billion in ag goods. The Monday afternoon Crop Progress report from USDA showed a total of 62% of the US bean crop blooming, with 26% setting pods.
