This Rams HC was named among worst hirings since 2000
The Los Angeles Rams have had eight head coaches over the past 25 years with varying degrees of success. While Sean McVay is already the winningest coach in franchise history with an 80-52 record after seven seasons, the Rams haven't always struck gold with their top man. CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin ranked the 25 worst head coaches since 2000, and the Rams' hiring of Steve Spagnuolo in 2009 came in at No. 15. For reference, No. 1 was Urban Meyer to the Jacksonville Jaguars, so No. 15 isn't so bad all things considered. Spagnuolo went 10-38 in three seasons for the Rams to continue the team's long playoff drought. He came to the team after two years coaching the New York Giants defense, including the 2007 squad that upset Tom Brady's undefeated season with the New England Patriots. Another example of a fearsome coordinator who couldn't translate defensive genius to head coaching dominance, Spagnuolo is currently the face of the Chiefs' perennially stingy Super Bowl-contending defense. Long ago, however, right after a separate successful stint running the Giants' defense, "Spags" struggled to keep Sam Bradford upright and supported while the Rams bumbled through some of their last seasons in St. Louis. The Rams were bad across the board under Spagnuolo. The team never ranked better than 26th in offensive scoring and the defense oscillated from mediocre to dreadful. His 10-38 record is also misleading because seven of those wins came in 2010. The Rams went 1–15 in his first season, which is the worst season in franchise history, and 2-14 in his final season, which was the second-worst record in franchise history and tied with the 2008 team that preceded him. Spagnuolo's years were so bad that Jeff Fisher's four seasons with either six or seven wins were seen as an upgrade. The team finally got it right in 2017 with the McVay hiring, as he finished with fewer than nine wins only once, and it was the year Matthew Stafford played just eight games due to injury.

Former NFL wide receiver returns to Bachelor in Paradise Season 10 What did Spagnuolo say to Burrow In one particular exchange following the Bengals defeating the Chiefs by 26-25 in Week 2 shows Spagnuolo coming up to quarterback Burrow and saying, '"Other than our guy, you are the best in the business." Dov Kleiman posted about the same on social media. 'Powerful: Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo gave Bengals superstar QB Joe Burrow some words after last year's game: "Other than our guy, you are the best in the business." Extremely high praise from one of the coaching greats,' the caption read. 'Our guy' refers to Brown's counterpart Patrick Mahomes (quarterback for the Chiefs). This interesting comment has captured the attention of many fans of both teams who took to social media to share their reactions towards the same. 'He's better than Lamar,' wrote one user. Another fan thought this was no big deal and wrote, 'this is a common sense take idk why people are making a big deal out of it' 'Burrow is keeping notes,' wrote a different page. 'Except Jalen Hurts who carves him up everytime they've played,' another user wrote. 'That was before he played the Eagles….,' wrote a fan. While, on the one hand it's clear that he considers Burrow a rather player who is considerably better on the field than his various counterparts, Spagnuolo still doesn't consider him to reach the capacity of his own star player- Mahomes. Chiefs coach labels Bengals QB Joe Burrow best behind Patrick Mahomes
Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback has not only captivated his team's fanbase, but respect around the league, including from opposing coaches. One of the coaches who has had a bit of history against Burrow is Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator who has faced Burrow five times, and Burrow has had plenty of success against the 4-time Super Bowl champion coach. In the new season of Netflix's 'Quarterback' series, cameras captured Spagnuolo giving Burrow the highest praise, saying that he's the best quarterback in the world behind Chiefs' gunslinger Patrick Mahomes. Understandably, Spagnuolo is going to put his own quarterback, who has won three Super Bowl rings ahead of Burrow who has yet to win one. Take a look at the moment Spagnuolo embraces with Burrow on 'Quarterback' In five career matchups against Spagnuolo and the Chiefs, Burrow is 3-2, throwing for 1,510 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. The two teams are not scheduled to play one another during this year's regular season, so if Burrow wants to continue to impress Spagnuolo, it'll have to come during the playoffs.

Will Chiefs Still Be A Defense-First Team In 2025?
Will Chiefs Still Be A Defense-First Team In 2025? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs, over the past couple of seasons, have transitioned away from relying on fireworks on offense with Patrick Mahomes to leaning on their defense. Advertisement No longer do the Chiefs regularly score 30+ points and blow teams out; instead, Spagnuolo's defense holds teams to roughly 20 points per game, and the offense does just enough to win. Granted, two Super Bowl wins and making another appearance in three years show this is sustainable, but some want the Chiefs to revert to the swashbuckling offense they once had. But we know that might not be the case, and defensively, as we look ahead to 2025, what would be the best-case scenario for Spagnuolo's defense? "The Chiefs had a top-10 defense last season," Bleacher Report writes. "Chris Jones and George Karlaftis anchor a strong pass rush, Trent McDuffie is a star in the secondary, and the linebacker corps fits Spagnuolo's system to a tee. The best-case scenario would see the existing talent and familiarity be slightly better next season." Dec 26, 2021; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones (95) and defensive end Frank Clark (55) and quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) pose for pictures as the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers winds down at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.© William Purnell-Imagn Images Last year, the defense allowed only 19.2 points per game (ranked fourth), 101.8 rushing yards per game (ranked 25th), and a third-down conversion on 43 percent of attempts (ranked 24th), so there is plenty to work with. Advertisement Plus, the Chiefs' defense, much like Mahomes, has a knack for making a play when the team needs it, whether that be a sack, a PBU, or a forced fumble. If the defense can at least replicate its efforts from last season, and the offense, with a host of weapons returning, can improve, this Chiefs team will be in good shape come playoff time. But let's make it clear, the Chiefs aren't driven by Mahomes anymore - it's the defense that sets the tone. Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce receives a heartfelt message from DC Steve Spagnuolo
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce receives a heartfelt message from DC Steve Spagnuolo The successful NFL career of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was very close to ending after Super Bowl LIX. He returns for a thirteenth season and hears praise from teammates and the coaching staff as he heads into 2025. During the recent episode of New Heights, the Kelce brothers were joined by Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who shared his appreciation for the Chiefs' legendary tight end. "I'm not saying this because you're sitting here," Spagnuolo said, "Trav, but you're one of the purest, down-to-earth megastars that anybody could ever meet." Spagnuolo joined the Chiefs' coaching staff in 2019 and has led a resurgence in the defense, making it one of the best units in the league. He may not coach Kelce directly, but he does practice against him often, building mutual appreciation between the two. "You're the best," Kelce said. "That means the most coming from you, coach." Kelce and Spagnuolo aim to unite the team for another trip to the Super Bowl.
