Life convict on parole dies
A life convict, who had been enlarged on parole, died on Thursday. Police said former village assistant Sankaranarayanan, 68, of Mangalakudiyiruppu under Thatchanallur police station, was awarded life imprisonment in a honour killing case. As he suspected that a woman had helped his son for marrying a railway worker despite his opposition, Sankaranarayanan murdered the pregnant lady. After a court here awarded him death sentence, it was commuted to life imprisonment by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. Sankaranarayanan, who was out on parole, had to return to Palayamkottai Central Prison on July 20. But, he was found near the railway track close to Balaji Avenue in Thatchanallur on July 19 evening with serious injuries and admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for treatment, where he died on Thursday. Police suspect that Sankaranarayanan might have ended life by jumping in front of moving train. Dindigul woman who tried to kill self at Dindigul collectorate dies at GRH
The woman who attempted to end her life on the District Collector premises at Dindigul on Tuesday and was later admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital with severe burn injuries died at the hospital while undergoing treatment on Thursday evening. As doctors said that she had suffered severe burn injuries and her condition was critical, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Following the incident on Tuesday, Natham police arrested seven persons on the following day under charges of abetting a woman to end her life. According to police, a revenue official recorded the statement of the woman, and added that preliminary inquiries revealed that the woman worked as an agent for a private finance firm - PACL - in the district, which had promised higher rates as return. Believing it, many gullible people had invested their savings through Pachaiammal. As many people asked for the money back, she was caught in a fix since the firm had shut operations a few years ago. Unable to face the situation, she claimed to end her life, police added. Doctor ends life after losing money in online gaming
A doctor, who had gone missing from his native in Vedasandur in Dindigul district, was found dead inside his car in Poombarai in Kodaikanal on Saturday. According to police, Joshua Samraj, 29, from Vedasandur was found dead inside his car. The local residents, on seeing the young man in the car, informed Kodaikanal police who sent the body for postmortem and registered a case. It was said that Joshua who was working in a private hospital in Madurai lost money by playing online games and was in distress due to this. Earlier, his parents lodged a missing complaint with Vedasandur police. Special Sub Inspector ends life in Theni
A Special Sub-Inspector of Police Saravanan 51, was found dead in Cumbum in Theni district on Wednesday. It was said that he was suffering from certain health issues for some time. Woman constable ends life in Nagapattinam
A 2023 batch policewoman attached to the Armed Reserve in Nagapattinam district allegedly ended her life while on duty on Sunday morning. Abinaya, 29, hailing from Keezhayiruppu in Manakkudi, Mayiladuthurai district, was posted as constable at the District Treasury in Nagapattinam. She was on duty between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. when she took the extreme step. Authorities have sent the body to the Government Medical College Hospital in Nagapattinam for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered by the Nagore police and further investigation is under way.
