Blackburn Rovers player completes transfer ahead of impending exit
Dilan Markanday will join Chesterfield when his Blackburn Rovers contract expires at the end of the month. Rovers have released the 23-year-old after opting against taking up the 12-month option in his contract. He will officially depart the club on June 30 after three and a half years at the club. Advertisement Markanday has found a new home, with familiar surroundings. He enjoyed an impressive loan spell with the Spireites at the start of last season, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 24 games. That prompted Rovers to recall him and send him to Leyton Orient. He made a bright start but struggled for minutes as the campaign progressed, with the Os losing in the League One play-off final to Charlton Athletic. READ MORE: Blackburn Rovers squad numbers available to Dion De Neve and new signings Given his success at Chesterfield, it's little surprise to see him pen a three-year deal to make the move permanent. Advertisement 'I'm over the moon, really happy," Markanday said. "It just feels like coming back home. I'm just happy to get over the line and I just want to get back playing football again. 'I'm at my happiest when I'm playing football and there's no better environment than this to really help me do that.' Markanday could reunite with former Rovers team-mate Kyle McFadzean next season. He remains in discussions about extending his stay with the League Two club. The 38-year-old signed a short-term contract in January but Chesterfield's retained list confirmed that talks were ongoing to extend his stay. There has been no further update as to whether an agreement is close. John Fleck, who played 17 minutes in a Blackburn Rovers shirt, is in the same boat. Paul Cook's side were beaten in the play-off semi-final by Walsall after finishing seventh. They will be amongst the favourites for automatic promotion next season.
