Honda steps up commuter game with new bikes to take on Hero
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is expanding its footprint in the high-volume commuter motorcycle segment, aiming to challenge Hero MotoCorp, the dominant market leader. To strengthen its position in the world's largest two-wheeler market, the Japanese two-wheeler major launched two new motorcycles -- the Shine 100 Deluxe and the CB125 Hornet -- on Wednesday. These strategic introductions are designed to drive sales volume and compete more aggressively in this key segment. 'With these two new models, our volume is surely going to go up. Last year was very significant for us because in the total industry growth of 1.6 million, we contributed 50% of the growth. We expect to have this kind of growth in this fiscal year as well with the launch of these two motorcycles,' said Yogesh Mathur, Director, Sales and Marketing at HMSI. Despite a decline in demand for entry-level motorcycles (100-110cc) in recent years, the segment still accounted for more than 46% of motorcycle volume and 29% of the total two-wheeler sales in the financial year 2025. Hero MotoCorp, on the back of its most successful product Splendor dominates this space with about 78% share.

Student's stabbing in Chandigarh: School rivalry turned brutal, 2 minors held
Chandigarh: In a chilling turn of events last Friday, a routine walk home turned into a nightmare for a Class-11 student in Chandigarh's Sector 50. The victim, critically injured in a brutal stabbing, now battles for his life at PGI — the victim of a violent fallout from a school washroom brawl. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The attackers? Two juveniles, now in police custody, who allegedly ambushed Shivam around 2:15 pm, armed with knives and riding a Splendor motorcycle. The motive: revenge. The method: ruthless. The Sector 49 police launched a full-scale investigation, scouring footage from over 110 CCTV cameras and digging through offender records. What they uncovered was a trail of tension that began days earlier inside school walls — and ended in blood on the streets. The scene was first discovered by a neighbour, Nandini, who ran to inform victim's father, Sunil Kumar, a tailor by profession. Rushing to the spot with a taxi driver, Sunil found his son bleeding profusely near the dividing road between Sector 49 and 50. The victim, barely conscious, named his attackers — three unknown boys on a two-wheeler who tried to kill him. Police later recovered a dagger knife, a motorcycle, a stone, and the clothes worn by the juveniles — grim evidence of a premeditated attack.

Pavna Industries share price rise over 4% in bear-hit Dalal Street; here's why
Shares of Pavna Industries surged over 4 percent on Monday, July 14, defying broader market weakness after the company announced that it had begun production and supply of oil pumps to Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL). The announcement marked a significant operational milestone for the company, which has now strengthened its ties with India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Pavna Industries confirmed that its subsidiary, Pavna Sunworld Autotech, has commenced the supply of oil pumps for HMCL's best-selling models — Splendor and Glamour. These pumps will be supplied to all six of Hero MotoCorp's manufacturing plants across India. The company noted that production has already begun and will be progressively ramped up to 50,000 units per month over the next three to four months. Commenting on the development, Swapnil Jain, Managing Director of Pavna Industries Ltd., said, 'This achievement is a testament to increasing consumer confidence in Pavna's engineering expertise, operational excellence, and product quality. Securing this mandate across all six Hero facilities reflects the dedication of our team and our growing credibility as a reliable supplier of key engine components.' Pavna Industries, formerly known as Pavna Locks Limited, was incorporated in 1994 and has built a strong presence in the South Asian automotive industry over the past five decades. The company manufactures a wide array of high-quality automotive parts catering to various vehicle segments — from two-wheelers and passenger vehicles to heavy commercial and off-road vehicles. It serves leading OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and has consistently focused on technology, reliability, and timely delivery. Despite the positive operational development, Pavna Industries' Q4 FY25 earnings highlighted ongoing challenges. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹ 1.70 crore, down 36.57 percent from ₹ 2.68 crore in Q4FY24. Consolidated revenue from operations for the quarter also fell 18.69 percent year-on-year to ₹ 66.23 crore from ₹ 81.45 crore. Revenue from operations dipped 2.72 percent year-on-year to ₹ 308.24 crore from ₹ 316.87 crore. The stock rose as much as 4.4 percent in intraday trade to touch a high of ₹ 432.45 on July 14. Despite the day's gains, it remains 43 percent below its 52-week high of ₹ 759.55 hit in October 2024. It had previously touched a 52-week low of ₹ 295.20 in March 2025. Over the past year, Pavna Industries' stock has declined by 14.5 percent. So far in July, it has slipped 1.7 percent, after a 9.6 percent rise in June and a 26 percent rally in May.
