Who drafted Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella in 2025 MLB draft? Full pick, signing info
It might have taken longer than some expected for Clemson Tigers outfielder Cam Cannarella to hear his name called in the 2025 MLB draft Sunday night in Atlanta, but the three-year college star is nevertheless headed to the next level. The Miami Marlins selected Cannarella with the 43rd overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round of the draft, one pick before the draft's second round began. The slot value for where Cannarella was drafted is $2.28 million. Heading into the night, Cannarella was ranked the No. 36 overall prospect by Cannarella had a remarkable three-year run at Clemson, posting a career .360 batting average and 1.004 OPS while playing in 178 games for coach Erik Bakich. With Cannarella in the lineup, the Tigers advanced to a Super Regional in 2024 for the first time in 14 years and made the NCAA Tournament in each of his three seasons, winning the ACC in 2023. Cannarella is the first Clemson player to be drafted by the Marlins organization since outfielder Kris Harvey was selected in the second round at No. 64 overall in the 2005 draft. His play in the outfield was just as impressive. Among Cannarella's highlight reel plays, none were as jaw-dropping as his Willie Mays' style catch in the Clemson Super Regional against the Florida Gators in 2024. This past season, Cannarella batted a team-high .353 while playing in 61 of the Tigers' 63 games. His home run production dipped a bit after undergoing surgery following the 2024 season, but he hit five long balls to go with a team-leading 22 doubles and 52 RBIs in 2025. He reached base at a .479 clip. Cannarella totaled 23 home runs, 54 doubles, and 159 RBIs in three seasons at Clemson. He also stole 30 bases in 41 attempts, the bulk of which came during his freshman season in 2023 (24-of-29). The Tigers finished the 2025 season 45-18 overall and were ranked No. 20 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after being eliminated from the NCAA Tournament following back-to-back losses to West Virginia and Kentucky in the Clemson Regional. Clemson climbed to as high as No. 2 in the Coaches Poll in the regular season and reached the ACC Tournament's championship game against North Carolina. A year ago, Clemson had five players taken in the MLB draft, including four in the first five rounds: infielder Blake Wright (fourth round, Colorado Rockies), right-hander Austin Gordon (fourth round, Los Angeles Angels), outfielder Will Taylor (fifth round, Pittsburgh Pirates), left-hander Tristan Smith (fifth round, Cincinnati Reds), and right-hander Rocco Reid (15th round, Arizona Diamondbacks). Clemson baseball signee selected by New York Yankees in MLB draft Shortstop Dax Kilby, who had signed with the Tigers out of Newnan High School in Georgia, was the first player with Clemson ties to be selected in the draft. Kilby was ranked as the No. 62 overall prospect by but was drafted well ahead of that projection by the Yankees with the 39th overall pick. Another incoming Clemson signee to watch in the draft is left-hander Nick Frusco from Miller Place High School in New York. Frusco made top 250 draft prospect rankings at No. 249 overall. Outfielder Ryan Wideman, who transferred to Clemson from Western Kentucky following an All-American season in 2024, is also a name to watch in this year's draft. Wideman ranks as No. 155 overall draft prospect after batting a team-best .398 with 10 home runs, 36 extra base hits and 68 RBIs this past season. He stole 45 bases in 47 attempts as a top-of-the-order threat. Contact us @Clemson_Wire on X, and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Clemson Tigers news and notes, plus opinions.

Florida baseball falls just short in final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll top 25 of 2025
The 2025 college baseball campaign is officially in the books following the completion of the College World Series on Sunday, in which the LSU Tigers prevailed over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in two games. Following the official end of the season, the final edition of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll was released, with those two teams at the top of the rankings in their respective spots. But one may ask, "Where did the Florida Gators finish?" Just to recap, Kevin O'Sullivan's squad, which endured a rollercoaster ride of both success and futility this past spring, finished the campaign with a 39-22 overall record and an even 15-15 mark in Southeastern Conference play. They made it just two games deep into the SEC Tournament, getting knocked out by the Ole Miss Rebels in the second round before losing two of three — both to the East Carolina Pirates — in the Conway Regional, marking the end of this year's run. As a result, the Orange and Blue finished just outside of the Coaches Poll top 25 with a de facto No. 26 ranking thanks to 85 votes. The conference had eight member schools among the top 25 and four others, including Florida, that earned votes. Take a look at the full final rankings below. Final 2025 USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll unveiled: Was Alabama ranked?
For the sixth straight college baseball season, an SEC team took home the Men's College World Series trophy in Omaha on Sunday. The LSU Tigers defeated Coastal Carolina, 5-3, in the CWS Finals at Charles Schwab Field to win their second national championship in three years under coach Jay Johnson, and their eighth overall title in school history. LSU finished the year 53-15 overall and were the unanimous No. 1 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, released Monday. Alabama had a lot to be proud of in 2025. With a talented roster led by shortstop Justin Lebron, coach Rob Vaughn guided the Crimson Tide to their first 40-win regular season since 2002. But it was an all-too-familiar ending for Alabama in the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson Tide dropped both games in the Hattiesburg Regional -- to the Miami Hurricanes and host Southern Miss -- as the program's College World Series drought reached 26 years. Alabama, which climbed to as high as No. 8 in the Coaches Poll during the regular season on March 31 after taking two of three from Oklahoma in a top 10 series, entered the tournament ranked No. 20. The Crimson Tide were unranked in the final Coaches Poll Monday. They received the second most votes for top 25 consideration with 73, behind Florida with 85 votes. Alabama also finished unranked in the final coaches poll in 2024. In 2023, the Crimson Tide were ranked No. 17 in the final coaches poll after reaching the Winston-Salem Super Regional against Wake Forest. Alabama was unranked in the preseason poll this year, released back on Feb. 3. Eight SEC teams placed in the final top 25, led by LSU. The Tigers won an elimination game over Little Rock in the Baton Regional Regional, then breezed through the rest of the tournament. They swept West Virginia in a Super Regional and went 5-0 in Omaha, rallying for a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over rival Arkansas to clinch a berth in the CWS Finals. The eight SEC teams ranked in the final top 25 were the most by any conference. Here's a look at the full top 25 Coaches Poll rankings. Alabama basketball set to face former player, assistant in 2025-26 nonconference schedule
Alabama basketball set to face former player, assistant in 2025-26 nonconference schedule Alabama basketball added another opponent to its 2025-26 nonconference slate this week. The Crimson Tide will face the Kennesaw State Owls from Conference USA on Sunday, Dec. 21. The game will be played at a neutral site, Propst Arena in Huntsville. The matchup against the Owls will come against a head coach that Alabama fans know well: former Crimson Tide guard and assistant coach Antoine Pettway. A starter on Alabama's 2004 team that went on a deep NCAA Tournament run to reach the program's first Elite Eight, Pettway will be in his third season as Owls head coach. He previously served as an assistant at Alabama from 2013-23 under Anthony Grant, Avery Johnson and Nate Oats. Pettway guided Kennesaw State to a 19-14 overall record and a 10-8 mark in Conference USA play last season. He had a four-year playing career at Alabama from 2000-01 to 2003-04 under coach Mark Gottfried, averaging 9.1 points per game to go with 3.7 rebounds with 3.5 assists while starting all 33 games his senior season. Oats has put together another loaded nonconference schedule with marquee matchups for 2025-26. The Crimson Tide will face Illinois (in Chicago), Purdue (at Coleman Coliseum), St. John's (Madison Square Garden) and Arizona (in Birmingham), among others. Alabama finished 28-9 last season and advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to Duke in the East Region final in Newark. The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 6 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Northeastern baseball enters NCAA Tournament as hottest team in nation
Northeastern baseball enters NCAA Tournament as hottest team in nation Show Caption Hide Caption 2 dark-horse picks for the 2025 men's NCAA baseball tournament The Montgomery Advertiser's Adam Cole and The Tennesseean's Aria Gerson make their dark-horse picks for the NCAA baseball tournament: Duke and Northeastern. Northeastern baseball enters the NCAA Tournament as the hottest team in the country, and it's not particularly close. The Huskies, who were just on the outside of hosting a regional, are on a ridiculous 27-game win streak going into the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by No. 9 Florida State. REQUIRED READING: College World Series predictions: Who will reach Omaha in 2025 NCAA baseball tournament? Northeastern, which boasts the nation's best team ERA at 2.92 this season, is ranked No. 21 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. They have three starting pitchers with sub-3.00 ERAs, and four hitters batting over .300. Amid a historic season, the Huskies are looking to make a run to their second College World Series appearance ever, as they last made it in 1966. The NCAA Tournament appearance is only their 11th bid. Here's everything to know about Northeastern baseball's win streak, as it prepares for Mississippi State on Friday: Northeastern baseball win streak Northeastern won its 27th consecutive game after beating UNC Wilmington 9-6 in the CAA tournament championship, which locked up its NCAA Tournament bid. The Huskies haven't lost in nearly two months, last taken down by Campbell 18-8 in eight innings, as the game ended in run-rule fashion. At one point during the win streak, Northeastern won by run-rule in three consecutive games, beating Charleston 10-0 and Monmouth 16-5 and 10-0. The record for most consecutive wins in Division I baseball is 34, which was set by Texas in 1977 and tied by Florida Atlantic in 1999. Northeastern would have to sweep the Tallahassee Regional and the following super regional, plus win its first CWS game to tie the record. That won't be easy, but it is certainly doable for the red-hot team. Northeastern has a 48-9 record this season, which is its best mark in program history. Not only does it lead the nation in team ERA, but it also leads in shutouts (17) and WHIP (1.04). The Huskies also get it done offensively, led by CAA Player of the Year Harrison Feinberg and a lineup that ranks second nationally in stolen bases (192). Northeastern has yet to win a regional game since the NCAA Tournament format changed in 1999, but coach Mike Glavine, the brother of Baseball Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, thinks this team is ready for the challenge. "This is the best group – the most prepared group – going into a regional tournament that we've had," Glavine told the university's in-house news outlet. "For me, now it's just making sure our guys believe they can do this. "We get in these situations where sometimes we don't play our best baseball and we worry about things that we can't control. I want to see the same team I've seen all year long. It's going to be a great opponent, an SEC opponent, in Mississippi State. We have to focus on ourselves and can't get caught up in who we're playing. It's going to be tough, obviously, but we're going to be tough."
