Dundalk ‘cooperating with authorities' following alleged racism towards Sligo Rovers player
DUNDALK FC HAS said it is 'fully cooperating with all relevant authorities' following an allegation of racism towards a Sligo Rovers player during a game last night. Dundalk faced Sligo Rovers in a home fixture at Oriel Park in the Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup last night. In a statement today, Dundalk FC said it was 'extremely disappointed to be made aware of an allegation of racism towards a Sligo Rovers player' during last night's game. 'Dundalk FC is a community based football club and we pride ourselves on being an open and inclusive club and are proud to welcome all to Oriel Park,' said the club in a statement. Advertisement It added: 'The club takes all reports of discrimination seriously and we are fully cooperating with all the relevant authorities on this matter. 'We stand with the League of Ireland and our supporters in taking a zero-tolerance approach to tackling racism within the game.' The club encouraged anyone who witnesses any such alleged behaviour to report it 'in confidence' by calling 042 9335894 or via email to office@ In a statement to The Journal, a Sligo Rovers spokesperson said: 'As a community club of mixed races, ethnicities and cultures we will challenge and call out racism of any kind.' The spokesperson added that the club will not comment further at this stage and intends to 'leave this to the authorities to handle'. The spokesperson also remarked that this alleged incident 'is not a reflection on the overwhelming majority of Dundalk fans' and described it as an 'isolated incident from a small minority'. 'Racism and hate has no part to play in football,' added the Sligo Rovers spokesperson. The FAI has been approached for comment. Drogheda start FAI Cup defence against Crumlin United, holders Shels handed tough opener
Drogheda United's defence of the Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup will begin with a home tie against Crumlin United following the second-round draw today. Kevin Doherty's side were paired with the Dublin outfit, who were 4-2 victors over Lucan United in the first round. Fellow Leinster Senior League side Killester Donnycarney have also Premier Division opposition in their sights after being handed a home tie against Bohemians. Last year's finalists Derry City will travel to face Treaty United while league champions Shelbourne will also be in Limerick to face Fairview Rangers. One provincial league club is guaranteed to be in the third round with Salthill Devon hosting Tipperary's St Michael's UCC, conquerors of Ringmahon Rangers, who were in the news this week due to an expected €3million payday following Caoimhín Kelleher's move to Brentford, have been handed an away tie to Finn Harps. Current Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers will have home advantage against Wexford. Elsewhere, Dundalk host Sligo Rovers, Leicester Celtic travel to Cork City, Wayside Celtic are in Bray, Kerry at home to Athlone Town, Tolka Rovers travel to Galway United, Bangor Celtic welcome Cobh Ramblers and Waterford are at home to St Mochta's. The matches will take place from 18-20 July. Television coverage on RTÉ will begin in the third round of the men's competition, followed by two quarter-finals, both semi-finals, and the final at Aviva Stadium, which will take place on Sunday, 9 November. RTÉ double down on FAI Cup as broadcaster strikes new two-year deal
RTÉ have secured broadcasting rights for the FAI Cup for the next two years that will see them double the number of matches shown. RTE strike deal to show FAI Cup matches for two years
RTE have agreed a deal to broadcast FAI Cup matches for the next two years. Six games in this season's competition will be shown live on RTE2 and RTE Player, with seven slated for next season. It marks the return of League of Ireland football to RTE screens for the first time since losing Premier Division rights to Virgin Media Television this season. This year, RTE will show an FAI Cup third round match, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final at Aviva Stadium on November 9. In 2026, RTE will add a second round game into the mix.
