Srisailam temple authorities focus on beautification of Shikaram
The authorities of Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple have decided to focus on beautification works of Shikareswara Temple, popularly known as Shikaram, as part of plans to develop the temple. Shikaram, located 8-km from the main temple, is a sacred spot at a height of 2,830 feet above the main sea level and is the highest peak of Srisailam. A temple dedicated to Sri Veera Sankara Swamy is situation here and according to Skanda Purana, a mere glance of Shikaram frees the human soul from the fitters of re-birth. Devotees throng Shikaram after offering prayers at the main temple for the panoramic view of Srisailam temple and river Krishna. Srisailam temple executive officer M. Srinivasa Rao directed the officials to take up landscaping at all possible places immediately. He directed them to take up repairs of the temple kitchen and serve prasadam to devotees visiting the Shikaram. Further, he wanted repairs to be taken up immediately to the illuminate Shiva Lingam at the Shikaram. Mr. Rao asked officials to set up a donation counter and also free footwear counter at the place. 'Remove garbage and litter from the temple and its surroundings regularly and keep the temple premises clean and hygienic,' Mr. Rao told the officials. The EO also directed them to remove shrubs and bushes near the Pushkarini (temple pond) regularly. Further, he wanted officials to remove silt on a regular basis and keep the pond clean. He wanted the engineering officials to put up boards displaying the historic importance of the temple as well as the temple pond, near the pond. Officials said that the EO wants to develop the famous Shaivaite temple town as a place where devotees can spend two or three days, and as part of this plan the temple authorities have taken up several development activities. Other tourist attractions are Srisailam dam, ropeway to Pathalaganga, and boating.

Srisailam geared up for auspicious ‘Sravana Masam'
The Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple management is geared up to meet the devotee rush during the auspicious 'Sravana Masam', starting July 25 (Friday). All arrangements have been made to provide a hassle-free darshan to the devotees and to meet their accommodation, water supply and other needs. Srisailam temple executive officer (EO) M. Srinivasa Rao said that all arrangements have been made to maintain sanitation, vehicle parking, annaprasadam distribution and other requirements. Speaking about the arrangements, the EO said that the 'abhisekhams' to the presiding deity in the sanctum sanctorum and the other abhishekams have been cancelled for 16 days during the auspicious month. 'They have been cancelled on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and also on Pournami day and on the day of auspicious Varalakshmi Vratam. On the days when abhisekams are cancelled, sparsha darshan will be provided in four slots. The tickets for the sparsha darshan will be available online only,' he added. Sparsha darshan would be provided to the devotees in three slots on days when there will be rush and the tickets can be bought on the temple website Sparsha darshan has been cancelled completely from August 15 to 18 for the convenience of the common devotees. On normal days, all 'arjitha abhishekams, mass abhisekhakams and Kumkumarchana' will be available and tickets can be purchased online. The temple gates will be opened at 3 a.m. and 'Suprabata Seva' and other rituals will be performed. Darshan for devotees at the Lord Mallikarjuna and Goddess Bhramaramba temple will start from 4.30 a.m.. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said 'Varalakshmi Vratam' will be performed twice during the month and 1,600 devotees can participate in the event on each of the occasion. During one of the Varalakshmi Vratam, 750 Chenchu women will be given an opportunity to perform the ritual. Those who participate in the Vratam will be given a sari, bangles, and others as prasadam and also 'vruksha prasadam.' For those who can not attend in person, Varalakshmi Vratam is also offered as a 'Paroksha Seva' on payment of ₹1,116 via the temple website and they can claim it through post. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that drinking water and snacks will be provided in the queue complexes. All the temple staff will be given special duties on the rush days, while annaprasadam distribution will start from 10.30 a.m. and 'alpaharam' will be distributed from 7 a.m..

Srisailam temple receives over ₹4.17 crore in hundi offerings
Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam received more than ₹4.17 crore in cash, gold, and silver as hundi offerings in 27 days (June 27 to July 23). Under the supervision of temple executive officer (EO) M. Srinivasa Rao, officials, staff, shiva sevaks and others participated in the hundi counting held under CCTV surveillance on Thursday. The temple received 225 g of gold and 11.550 g of silver, 475 US dollars, 1,300 Oman currency, 155 Canadian dollars, 40 pounds, and currencies from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia and other countries.

Free sparsha darshan cancelled in view of heavy rush at Srisailam
There has been an drastic increase in the number of devotees to the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam since the past two days following the lifting of the crest gates of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Srisailam Project. Anticipating that the rush would continue for the next one week, Srisailam temple authorities have cancelled the free sparsha darshan facility for the entire week. The opening of Srisailam crest gates has made the lush green Nallamala forest more scenic and large number of tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have thronged Srisailam. The tourists also visit the famous Lord Shiva temple, which has added to the weekend rush of devotees. The Srisailam temple authorities recently introduced a time slot for free sparsha darshan to facilitate a chance for common devotees to touch the Shiva Lingam and get blessings. This facility was provided from Tuesday to Friday of every week. With the temple witnessing heavy rush, the authorities announced that the free sparsha darshan would not be allowed from July 15 to 18. Only 'alankara darshan' would be allowed for the 'sarva darshan' devotees, and the temple authorities have urged them to cooperate with the management in providing hassle-free darshan.

Devotee booked for making ‘false claim' of cockroach in laddu prasadam at Srisailam
The Srisailam police have registered a case against a devotee from Kavali for his alleged false claims of finding a cockroach in the laddu prasadam given at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam. On June 29, the devotee, K. Saran Chandra, and his friends picked up an argument with the laddu counter staff, alleging they found a cockroach in the prasadam they purchased from the counter. They took a video of the same in their mobile phones, and the same was telecast by a few television channels. An inquiry by the temple officials revealed that the devotee had intentionally placed a locust in the laddu and made false claims that he found a cockroach in it. The CCTV footage also revealed that his friends handed over a cover to Mr. Saran Chandra after which the latter made the allegation. 'We have received a complaint from the temple authorities and we have registered case against the devotee on charges of hurting the sentiments of people under relevant Sections of the BNS,' Srisailam circle inspector G. Prasada Rao said.
