Chennai cyber crime cops quiz Madurai Adheenam
1 2 Madurai: A Chennai cyber crime police team on Sunday conducted inquiry with the 293rd pontiff of Madurai Adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal, at the Adheenam mutt in Madurai in connection with the case against him for his alleged provocative remarks that could incite conflict between religious communities. The Adheenam had claimed a conspiracy to murder him, suggesting links to Pakistan and Muslim men, following a road accident at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi on May 2. Though his claims were later found to be entirely false after a police investigation into the road accident involving his car, his claims had by then been widely shared on media and social media platforms. On Saturday, the Chennai principal sessions court granted the Adheenam conditional anticipatory ball. On Sunday, a Chennai cyber crime police team came to the mutt near Meenakshi Amman temple and conducted an inquiry with the Adheenam. His advocate told reporters that the Adheenam fully cooperated with the inquiry despite undergoing a surgery recently and suffering from illness. "The police did not permit even a helper inside during the inquiry which lasted around 45 minutes. The Adheenam told us that he answered all the questions of the police," added the advocate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Meanwhile, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran hit out at the police and state govt for 'going after' elderly spiritual and religious leaders and gurus like the Madurai Adheenam even when they are aged and suffering from illness. Outfits demand action against Madurai adheenam for provocative speech
Madurai: Around 50 members of various political and human rights outfits, under the banner of Madurai Communal Harmony People Federation , held an agitation in Madurai on Monday, demanding action against the 293rd pontiff of Madurai adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal , for his alleged recent provocative speeches and false claims promoting Hindu-Muslim enmity . The outfits taking part in the protest included SDPI, IMMK, TMMK, and Anna Dravida Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam. Although it was planned to hold a siege agitation in front of the Madurai adheenam Mutt on South Avani Moola Street, police denied permission and tightened security in the area by putting up barricades. The protesters, therefore, held banners and shouted slogans in a protest march near Jhansi Rani Park, demanding that the state govt and Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department take action against Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal and remove him from his position. It maybe recalled that the Madurai adheenam was embroiled in a controversy after he claimed an attempt on his life following a road accident in Kallakurichi. Although police denied any indications of foul play and registered a case against the adheenam's car driver based on a complaint by the other car driver involved in the accident, Swamigal made alleged inflammatory remarks. "Is the Madurai adheenam above the law? Police should have registered a case against him by now for spreading false information and provocative remarks with the intent of creating Hindu-Muslim enmity. Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal brings disgrace to the Madurai adheenam position and should be removed," said Vanchinathan, coordinator. The Madurai city police subsequently detained the protesters in a marriage hall. Meanwhile, Hindu Munnani, RSS, BJP, and various Hindu outfits showcased their support for the Madurai adheenam.
