Sri Ram Sene's protest march stopped by police in Belagavi
Belagavi: Hundreds of Sri Ram Sene activists, led by their chief Pramod Mutalik, attempted to launch the 'Ingali Chalo' protest march from Belagavi on Thursday, condemning the recent assault on cow vigilantes at Ingali village in Hukkeri taluk. However, police detained the activists before the march could commence. The protest was in response to the incident where five Sri Ram Sene members were allegedly tied to a coconut tree and assaulted by locals in Ingali village. Belagavi police have since arrested four accused and registered a suo-motu case in connection with the attack. According to Belagavi superintendent of police Dr Bhimashankar Guled, the conflict was triggered after the activists allegedly entered the residence of a Muslim family, causing panic among women inside. He said this intrusion provoked the reaction from villagers. The SP also raised concerns about the background of one of the assaulted individuals, who is a rowdy sheeter, and questioned whether he officially represented the Sri Ram Sene. Rejecting the SP's version of events as 'false' and 'misleading,' Sri Ram Sene launched the 'Ingali Chalo' campaign. Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Pramod Mutalik condemned the attack on SRS workers, stating, "This is not Pakistan or Afghanistan. Assaulting cow vigilantes in such a Taliban-style manner is unconstitutional. The govt must take strict action. If this repeats, the Hindu community will respond." In response to SP Guled's remarks questioning the involvement of a rowdy sheeter in the vigilante group, Mutalik defended the individual. "Today, police are branding even Hindu activists like Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and Chakravarthy Sulibele as rowdies. This is an attempt to divert public attention from the real issue." He alleged that the administration is trying to protect the accused and suppress cow protection efforts by discrediting the activists.

Police foil Sri Ram Sene's ‘Ingali Chalo' rally; Muthalik detained
Sri Ram Sene activists took out a 'Ingali Chalo' rally on Thursday in protest against the alleged assault on their activists in Ingali village in Belagavi district. The activists formed a human chain at Rani Channamma circle. They took out a rally to the Deputy Commissioner's office raising slogans against the State government and the police. They demanded that the accused who had assaulted five of their activists be brought to book. SRS founder Pramod Mutalik addressed the protestors. Later, the activists submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan. Police took Mr. Mutalik and other activists into custody after they insisted on walking to Ingali village, despite denial of permission by the police. 'Five of our youth were tied to a coconut tree and beaten up mercilessly by the residents in Ingali. I want to ask the government if this is Karnataka or Pakistan or Afghanistan? Is there is no protection to young people involved in the task of protecting cows? Four arrested in assault on Sri Ram Sene activists; police say both sides at fault
Belagavi: Yamakanmaradi police arrested four individuals on Monday in connection with an assault on five persons, said to be Sri Ram Sene activists, at Ingalagi village of Hukkeri taluk on Saturday. The victims were allegedly tied to a coconut tree and beaten by locals. The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral on social media the following day. Addressing a press conference on Monday, SP Bhimashankar Guled stated that the police took suo motu cognizance of the incident after the video surfaced, as no formal complaint was filed by the victims. Complex background of the case According to SP Guled, one of the five victims, Mahaveer Solapure, is a known rowdy-sheeter previously externed from Belagavi and currently residing in Kalaburagi, intercepted a vehicle transporting four cows on June 26, allegedly posing as gaurakshaks. Owner of the cows, Babajan Multani, reportedly presented valid documents, proving he purchased the cows for dairy purposes. The matter was briefly handled at the Yamakanmaradi police station, and the cows were temporarily sent to a local goshala. After being convinced of the legitimacy of the transport, the five individuals submitted a letter to the police stating they did not wish to pursue the case. "Unfortunately, some social media channels tried to portray the incident as Muslims attacking gaurakshaks but this was purely a case of public outrage triggered by fear and trespassing — not a Hindu-Muslim issue," he said. The SP also raised concerns about the misuse of organisational identity. He said Sri Ram Sene should clarify if the rowdy sheeter is a member or misusing the organisation's name. In that case, they should register a complaint with the police, he said.

Four held for assulting Sri Ram Sene youth in Belagavi village
Police have arrested four persons on charges of assaulting four youth in Ingali village in Belagavi district on June 26, 2025. SP Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on Monday (June 30, 2025) that the villagers were angry that the youth had trespassed into a house, where the only residents at the time were women. He denied allegations made by Sri Ram Sene that the police had not acted against the accused. 'The villagers who attacked the youth have violated the law and committed an offence. However, the victims do not seem to be innocent. One of them is a rowdy-sheeter who is under externment. It seems that the youth are misusing the name of an organisation,' he said. He also denied the allegation by SRS that those accused of the assault were Muslims. 'One of the accused is a Hindu. On the face of it, it doesn't seem to be a case of communal violence,' he said.
