Karnataka: Four held after Hindutva outfit members attacked for breaking into cattle owner's home
Four persons were arrested in Karnataka's Belagavi district on Monday for allegedly assaulting members of a Hindutva group after they reportedly intercepted a vehicle transporting cows and later forcibly entered the home of the cattle's owner, The Indian Express reported. Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled told the newspaper that those who were assaulted were members of the Sri Rama Sene. 'While Sri Rama Sene activists broke the law by barging into a house without permission, some villagers did the same by assaulting them,' Guled said. The police took cognisance of the case after a video of the incident, which took place last week, was shared on social media, PTI reported. The video purportedly shows five men being tied to a tree and attacked by a group. The police said that on June 26, members of the Sri Rama Sene stopped a vehicle, alleging that it was transporting cattle for slaughter. They later took the driver to a police station, where he maintained that the cows were being taken for dairy and taming purposes, The Indian Express reported. The cows were later taken to a cattle shelter. On June 28, members of the outfit allegedly barged into the house of Babasav Ramjan Multani, the cattle owner, after he brought the cows back from the shelter. Only women were reportedly present inside the home at the time. An unidentified police officer told The Indian Express that the villagers mistook the men for thieves and assaulted them. However, Sri Rama Sene leader Vithal Gaddi claimed that five of the outfit's members were attacked when they tried to stop the illegal transportation of cattle. Villagers, meanwhile, have claimed that the assault was unrelated to cattle transport and that the members had allegedly '', PTI reported.

Sri Rama Sene men attacked after they stop vehicle carrying cows and barge into owner's home, 4 villagers held
Four villagers were arrested in Karnataka's Belagavi district on Monday for allegedly tying Sri Rama Sene members to a pole and thrashing them after they intercepted a vehicle transporting cows and later barged into the home of the cattle's owner, the police said. On June 26, the Sri Rama Sene activists intercepted a vehicle transporting cows in Ingali village near Hukkeri, alleging that the animals were being illegally taken for slaughter. They took the driver to the police station and alleged the cows were headed to a slaughterhouse. However, the driver insisted the cattle were being transported for dairy or taming purposes. Further, he alleged the Sri Rama Sene activists attempted to extort money from him by making false accusations. The cows were then shifted to a cow shelter in Ingali. On June 28, Sri Rama Sene activists allegedly barged into the house of Babasab Ramjan Multani, the owner of the cows, after he brought the cattle back from the cow shelter. A police officer said there were only women at the house at the time and that the Sri Rama Sene men were attacked as they were initially mistaken for thieves. On June 29, Sri Rama Sene leader Vithal Gaddi alleged five of their activists were attacked when they tried to prevent illegal cattle transportation and that the police did not take any action against the assailants. However, Belagavi SP Bhimashankar Guled said on Monday that four men who assaulted Sri Rama Sene activists were arrested. When the Sri Rama Sene activists took Multani's vehicle to the Hukkeri police station, he provided documents stating that the cows were being used for farming and not to be sent to a slaughterhouse. But when Sri Rama Sene activists barged into Multani's house, they were attacked by villagers including Hindus and Muslims, according to the police. The Sri Rama Sene activists did not file any complaint but alleged the police did not accept their complaint. 'We have enough evidence to prove that they chose not to file a complaint. Now, we have taken up a suo motu case and arrested four persons,' the police officer added. 'While Sri Rama Sene activists broke the law by barging into a house without permission, some villagers did the same by assaulting them. The victims don't seem to be innocent. One of them is a rowdy-sheeter and is under externment. Some people are misusing the names of the organisation,' he said.

Karnataka Hindu Activists Tied To Tree, Thrashed After Row Over Carrying Cows
Bengaluru: Activists of the Hindu group Sri Rama Sene were tied to a tree and thrashed by locals in Karnataka's Belagavi for stopping transportation of cattle, members of the group said. Visuals of the incident showed the activists tied to a tree and locals hitting them with sticks. The activists on Friday rescued some cows which they alleged were transported illegally for slaughter in Belagavi's Hukkeri taluk. They took the man who was transporting the cows to a police station, and told the police that the cows were headed to a slaughterhouse. The driver who was carrying the cows refuted the allegation. He said the cows were used for dairy and the Sri Rama Sena activists tried to extort money from him by making false allegations. The cows were later sent to a shelter in Ingali village. On Saturday evening, a man identified as Bapusa Multhani reached the gaushala (cow shelter) and got them released. On hearing about this, the activists rushed to the gaushala and followed Mr Multhani to his house. They entered his house and created a ruckus over transporting the cows. This led to villagers getting agitated, and they eventually caught hold of the activists. A group of villagers took them to a tree, tied them there and thrashed them with sticks. The police said that after they came to know about the incident, they told the activists to file a formal complaint, but they refused. After the video went viral, the police filed a first information report (FIR) on their own (suo moto).

Hindu groups allege targeted action in Dakshina Kannada
Bengaluru: A federation of Hindu organisations has alleged targeted police action against Hindu activists in Dakshina Kannada district in the wake of the murder of Abdul Rehman in Bantwal on May 27. Representatives of multiple Hindu outfits submitted a memorandum to Director General of Police M.A. Saleem at the State Police Headquarters in Bengaluru on Monday, calling the action a 'one-sided crackdown' and a 'conspiracy to suppress Hindu voices'. According to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti state spokesperson Mohan Gowda, cases were filed against 15 Hindu activists overnight and several others have been issued externment notices. 'Police are entering homes at night, photographing activists without consent, installing GPS devices, and summoning individuals without formal notice. These actions are creating an atmosphere of fear,' he alleged. He further claimed that the Communal Violence Prevention Unit was being used selectively against Hindu groups, while no action was taken against SDPI leaders accused of making provocative speeches. Gowda also alleged that complaints filed by Hindus against hate speech from other communities were being ignored, while swift action was taken against Hindu individuals for comments on social media. 'This clearly shows an attempt to curtail the freedom of expression of Hindus,' he said. Raising concerns over the investigation into the earlier murder of Suhas Shetty, Gowda said there was credible suspicion about the involvement of members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), but instead, Hindu leaders were being booked under pressure from religious and political leaders of the Muslim community. The memorandum also referred to alleged incidents during Abdul Rehman's funeral procession in Bantwal on May 28, including forced shop closures, attacks on journalists, and stone-pelting. The federation said no action had been taken against those involved. Sri Rama Sene founder-president Pramod Muthalik, who was also present during the submission of the memorandum, said that several Hindu leaders in Dakshina Kannada had received threatening audio messages via WhatsApp, allegedly from terrorist groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and originating from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia. He claimed that Suhas Shetty had received similar threats prior to his murder. Muthalik further said that the sudden mobilisation of large crowds from neighbouring Kerala for protests in Mangaluru was a serious concern. 'Though the PFI is banned, its members remain active under the banner of the SDPI. The government must take strict legal action,' he demanded. The delegation included a number of prominent figures from across the state: Shri Pramod Muthalik (Sri Rama Sene), Advocate Amrutesh N.P., Shri Puneeth Kerehalli, Shri Santosh Kenchamba, Shri Govardhan Singh (Regional Co-convener, Bajrang Dal), Shri Suresh Kumar B. (Joint Regional Secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishad), and Shri Rajanna (Joint Regional Coordinator, Hindu Jagarana Vedike - South). Also in attendance were Shri M. L. Shivakumar (Vijayanagar), Shri Mallikarjun Raju (Youth for Human Rights), Shri Suresh (Azad Brigade, Ramanagara), Shri Sundresh Naragal (Sri Rama Sene, Bengaluru), advocates Prasanna D. P. and G. M. Nataraj (Karnataka High Court), and Shri Deepak Pawar (Shiva Gharjane Sene, Bengaluru), among others. The federation urged the DGP to ensure that law enforcement acts impartially and that the rights and safety of Hindu leaders and activists are protected.
