Collector calls for 'let's make Sri Sathya Sai a dropout-free dist'
Puttaparthi: Sri Sathya Sai District Collector TS Chetan has called for collective efforts to enroll all school-age children and transform the district into a dropout-free zone. Addressing the media on Saturday at the Mini Conference Hall in the District Collectorate joined by District SP V Ratna, IPS, to outline the district's strategy for the upcoming Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) and related programmes including P4 and Talli Ki Vandanam. He explained that the Mega PTM an initiative of the State Education Department—will be held across Andhra Pradesh on July 10. The event is aimed at strengthening the bond between students, parents, and teachers, and will be conducted in a festive atmosphere, focusing on comprehensive educational development. Mandatory participation of all students with their parents and active involvement of teachers. Detailed progress reports will be shared with parents. Rangoli competitions for mothers, tug-of-war for fathers, and other cultural activities will be organised. The theme this year highlights the central role of mothers in the education system. Alumni and donors who have supported schools will also be invited. Student-led committees such as Invitation, Parking, and Hospitality committees will be set up in each school. Participation of government officials including Tahsildars, MPDOs, and Municipal Commissioners is expected. Public representatives, including MPs and MLAs, will attend the PTM in their respective constituencies. The state-level programme will be held at Kottacheruvu in our district, under the guidance of the Chief Minister. 20,789 students enrolled in Class 1, and 24,000 in Class 6 this year. Students' Aadhaar details and photographs must be linked accurately in UDISE+. Parents, teachers, and society must jointly work to eliminate school dropouts. Citizens can register at and select families to mentor. Each mentor will have a profile on the platform. Alumni and NRIs from the district are encouraged to support families in their native villages.

Achieve complete health through yoga
Hindupur: 'Focuson your breath and practice yoga daily to attain complete health,' urged Sri Sathya Sai District Collector TS Chetan, speaking at the Yogandhra programme held at MGM Grounds in Hindupur as part of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations. The event saw participation from SP Ratna, Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar, yoga gurus, and numerous public representatives and citizens. Addressing the gathering, he said that International Yoga Day, celebrated globally on June 21, is a source of pride for both India and the world. He described yoga not just as a symbol of Indian heritage but as a pathway to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He encouraged everyone to integrate yoga into their daily routine, highlighting that even 30 minutes of daily yoga at home could enhance physical health and mental peace. He praised the youth and the public for their enthusiastic participation and noted that such interest would spread awareness about health and well-being. 'A society that practices yoga every day will be a healthy society,' he remarked. The State Government has been actively promoting yoga awareness through the month-long Yogandhra Mahotsavam, conducted from May 21 to June 21, across Dharmavaram, Kadiri, Penukonda, Lepakshi,and other locations with theme-based yoga sessions. These were organised in collaboration with the AYUSH and Health Departments, reaching from district-level centers to rural areas. He thanked everyone involved in making the month-long celebrations a grand success. As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, certificates and mementos were awarded to district and state-level winners of yoga competitions by the Collector. Dignitaries and participants also took part in the Swachh Andhra – Swarna Andhra initiative by planting saplings. The event witnessed large participation from local leaders and officials, including Puttaparthi MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, former Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Municipal Chairman Ramesh, Penukonda RDO Anand Kumar, DMHO Fairoza Begum, Municipal Commissioner Mallikharjuna, TDP District President Vadde Anjanappa, as well as students, yoga instructors, and the general public.

Celebrating 11 years of good governance under Modi
Puttaparthi: A grand intellectual meet was held on Tuesday at the district headquarters of Sri Sathya Sai to commemorate 11 Years of Good Governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event, organised under the leadership of district BJP president GM Shekhar, witnessed participation from several prominent leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Paka Venkata Satyanarayana and former MLA Kapu Ramachandra Reddy, who graced the occasion as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, the leaders highlighted that exactly 11 years ago, a visionary leader, Narendra Damodardas Modi, assumed office as the Prime Minister of India, ushering in a new era in Indian politics. Since then, the country has been on a rapid path of development under his leadership. They emphasized that PM Modi's governance over the past 11 years has been marked by bold decisions and revolutionary welfare policies that transformed the trajectory of the nation. Rising from a humble background, Modi's firsthand experience of poverty inspired people-centric policies. His administration has brought unprecedented changes, many of which were once considered unimaginable. Among the key milestones mentioned were the Balakot air strikes in retaliation to the 2019 Pulwama terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor in April 2025, carried out in response to a terror strike in Pahalgam. These actions demonstrated India's firm stance against terrorism, sending a clear message that those who plot destruction will face consequences. They acknowledged the government's commitment to placing India among the leading global nations through structural reforms and numerous welfare initiatives. The event saw active participation from state-level leaders, including BJP Yuva Morcha State President Mitta Vamshi Krishna, Dalit Morcha State President Gudise Devanand, State Executive Members Ramesh Reddy and Anjaneyulu and many others.

Six held for raping minor in Andhra's Sathya Sai
ANANTAPUR: Six men accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Yedugurrallapalli village of Ramagiri mandal have been arrested and remanded, Sri Sathya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna announced on Monday. The SP, along with Dharmavaram DSP B Hemanth Kumar, revealed case details during a press briefing at the district police office. The assault occurred at different times, and the arrests were made on Monday. The arrested are Acchampalli Vardhan (21), Badagorla Nandavardhan Raj alias Nanda (23), Boodida Rajanna (49), Boya Sanjeeva (40), Haryanacheruvu Nagaraju (51), and Talari Murali (25), all from Ramagiri mandal. Following a complaint from the victim, police registered a case and launched a probe. The case was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the IT Act. SP Ratna said special teams under Dharmavaram DSP and Ramagiri CI V Sridhar tracked and arrested the accused. Police revealed that some of the accused were also previously involved in coercing families to stay silent about illegal abortions of minor girls. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the remaining suspects. The SP assured that all efforts are being made to ensure justice and to prevent crimes against women and children. Dharmavaram Two Town CI Reddappa and other staff also attended the press meet.

Six held in minor girl's rape and pregnancy case in Sathya Sai district
Sri Sathya Sai district Superintendent of Police V. Ratna on Monday said that six people have been arrested in the minor girl's gangrape and impregnation case while they were making a bid to flee the district. Speaking to the media here, the SP said that the accused were identified as Achampalli Vardhan (21), Talari Murali (25), Badagarla Nandavardhan Raj (23), Aramcheru Nagaraju (51), Boya Sanjeeva (40), and Budidha Rajanna (49). She said that based on the statement of the victim and her mother, criminal cases under various sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act were booked against the accused. Special parties were deployed to track down other accused in the case. The case came to light on Thursday (June 5) from a remote village of Ramagiri mandal, when the neighborhood alerted the police, who swung into action. Following this, the minor girl along with her mother had reportedly left the village fearing threat from the accused. However, the police traced the family and shifted the girl to a government shelter. The accused were produced before the district court, which remanded them.
