Oasis to play first gig in almost 16 years in Cardiff tonight
Oasis will kickstart their long-awaited worldwide reunion tour in Cardiff on Friday, their first concert in almost 16 years. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform together for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, when they appear at the Welsh capital's Principality Stadium. The brothers announced the Oasis Live '25 tour last August, starting with two dates in Cardiff on Friday and Saturday, before heading across the UK and Ireland. Artist Nathan Wyburn with his artwork 'The Wonder Wall', a monochrome portrait of Oasis bandmates Noel and Liam Gallagher constructed entirely from bucket hats, commissioned by St David's, on display at the shopping centre in Cardiff (Al Doors are expected to open at 5pm, with Cast and the Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft in support. While fans have been pleading for the group to reunite since they disbanded, website issues and controversial dynamic pricing brought outrage, with many failing to secure a spot. Ticketing issues, with website problems and dynamic pricing, mean many fans failed to secure a spot and resale prices were high (Yui Mok/PA) Following Cardiff, Oasis will visit Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September. A movie, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the rock band was led by lead guitarist Noel and his brother, lead vocalist Liam, during their 18 years together. The reunion comes 15 years after Noel Gallagher quit the band, claiming he could no longer work with brother Liam Gallagher (Zak Hussein/PA) Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.

Oasis portrait made of 3,000 bucket hats unveiled in Cardiff
A giant portrait of Liam and Noel Gallagher has been unveiled in Cardiff's St David's Shopping Centre ahead of their sell out reunion tour, next weekend. The artwork is made entirely from 3,000 bucket hats and stands 16 feet high - and stretches 20 feet wide to celebrate Oasis choosing Cardiff to kick start their tour. Commissioned by St David's and brought to life by renowned Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn, the Wonder Wall portrait took four days to complete and is now on display in the upper level of the centre's Eastside dining quarter. Helen Morgan, Centre Director at St David's Cardiff, said: 'We're excited and honoured that our beloved Cardiff is home to the inaugural gig of the Oasis Live '25 reunion tour. 'We wanted to celebrate the city being the first place in the world where fans can see the reunion, so we commissioned our unique Wonder Wall portrait to pay homage to Noel and Liam and the upcoming epic international tour. 'Some might say it's just a load of bucket hats, but we think it's definitely, maybe, the best use of buckets hats ever.'

East Lothian mum's heartbreak as daughter 'refused school place with brother'

More info A caring East Lothian mum has told how her daughter has been denied a place at the same school as her son. Mum-of-two Jade Robertson stayed in Mayfield, Midlothian, until January 2024 when she was forced to relocate to Tranent with her two kids following a traumatic family event. She is furious at a decision to deny her daughter Orla, 11, a place at St David's Catholic High School where brother Leo, 12, attends - with the local authority citing catchment and space issues. The 39-year-old office worker said she is expected to enrol Orla at Ross High in Tranent, a school she has no connections with. After appealing to the Education Appeals Committee last month, Jade was again rebuked, with the panel siding with the council in denying Orla a place. Council officers said the appeals committee is independent and their role is to decide whether any legal grounds justify the placing request being refused. Local authority officials added the panel agreed with their decision and Orla has been added to a waiting list for the school. 'Orla is absolutely devastated,' Jade said. 'We had to relocate to Tranent last year due to a traumatic family event but we kept Orla and Leo in their local schools in Mayfield. 'Both kids went to St Luke's Primary where they have created lifelong friendships. It was always the case that St Luke's kids went onto St David's but this is somehow not the case with Orla. 'Orla has attended every event linked with transitioning to St David's so far including a camp where she met friends from other primaries that she was looking forward to going to high school with. 'She is going to be expected to go to Ross High where she is going in completely blind with not many friends. We still spend a lot of time in Mayfield so Orla and Leo can continue to play with their friends. 'We went through a volatile time as a family and during that period Leo and Orla grew incredibly close. They are both upset at the idea they will not attend the same high school. 'Orla's gran often helps with the school runs and she stays in the catchment for St David's. Orla asked to stay with her gran which is not something I want her to do but we were told this would not make a difference either. 'This is going to be a major upheaval for our family with one child going to one school and the other another. It has been tricky this past year with Orla at St Luke's and Leo at St David's; so we were looking forward to them going to the same school again. 'Sadly if the council do not reverse their decision, we may have to consider taking Leo out of St David's which would be devastating for him.' Jade applied for a place at St David's for Orla but in January 2025 she was informed she would have to make a non-catchment application to the council. In April of this year she found out no place was given and she would be added to a waiting list where she was initially fifth in line. 'I feel like the council is not interested in the lives of the kids on the waiting list,' Jade added. 'They are not taking into account their feelings and it is their education and social lives which will suffer. 'What is also frustrating is she started fifth on the waiting list and has now been bumped down to eighth due to families moving into the St David's area.' An independent body, the Education Appeals Committee (made up of councillors, volunteers with experience in education and parents), decides whether there are legal grounds to justify the placing request being refused and whether, considering all circumstances, it is appropriate to do so. The committee reviewed the case and agreed with the council's decision. 'Any parent who wishes to appeal following the decision of the Education Appeal Committee has the right to appeal to the Sheriff Court. The committee provides every parent who raises an appeal with information about how to do that. There is a waiting list for St David's High School. If any places open up, they will be offered based on the order of priority set out in the admissions policy.'

Swatch store to open in Cardiff city centre The Swiss watch brand will sell its collaborations, including its Omega Moonswatch tie-up, at the St David's Centre store An opening date has not been confirmed but the branding on the store says it will be opening soon (Image: Rahaf Ali ) A brand-new Swatch store is set to open its doors in Cardiff's St David's Shopping Centre bringing the globally-popular watch brand back to Cardiff. The Swiss brand was part of the original line-up at the launch of the expanded St David's in 2009. The store closed down a few years ago but is now making a comeback this year. The new Swatch store will open in the lower level of the centre's Grand Arcade, close to Swarovski and opposite Menkind, and will be the brand's only standalone store in Wales. The brand's new boutique will showcase its latest collections of watches and collaborations including the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch and Blancpain x Swatch collaborations, which will be for sale at the store. In the past 12 months we've launched several exciting new stores including Søstrene Grene, Sosandar, Pull&Bear, and Carl's Jr., and guests can expect even more this summer with imminent openings from Knoops and Banana Tree with beauty giant Sephora coming later this year.'
