Street marshals become 'eyes and ears' of St Ives
A pilot scheme has been launched for street marshals to be the "eyes and ears" of a Cornish town over the Ives Town Council said the scheme aimed to address the pressures placed on the town with spikes in antisocial behaviour and petty crime during the summer council, in close partnership with St Ives BID [business improvement district], said it was funding the scheme following the positive impact similar teams had had in Penzance, Truro and Camborne. Marshals would be employed by "trusted partner" Infinitus Security Ltd, which manage and monitor the CCTV system in the town centre, the council said. 'Multi-agency approach' The council said the marshals were not a substitute for police, but they would be working very closely alongside them. St Ives BID manager Sarah Hooper said the multi-agency approach would strengthen intelligence sharing and enable a more "effective response to local issues"."Street marshals provide a vital, visible presence in the town, offering reassurance to residents, visitors and businesses, while actively helping to reduce antisocial behaviour and crime," she of St Ives Johnnie Wells said the initiative would help keep the town "safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone". Insp Dee Evans, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said the new initiative was a "really positive step" for St said: "The introduction of summer street marshals will strengthen our partnership approach to tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, particularly during the busiest months of the year."By working closely with the police and local services, the marshals will provide a visible, reassuring presence and support early intervention in areas of concern."

I'm a single mum-of-4 & found a 5-night caravan holiday for £22 – we had ‘private beach' access & saw seals for free
TAKING your family away on holiday can be expensive - but one savvy single mum shared how she did it for just £22 per person. Charlene Woracker, who has four children, revealed how she found a dream caravan holiday in St Ives for the bargain price. 5 5 On her @mummybudgets account, she shared how the trick included her kids playing on a 'private beach', seeing seals and body boarding. She booked a Haven trip during half term which set her back £111, and despite the six-hour drive, it was 'absolutely worth it' when they arrived. Upon arrival, they set off to eat the famous Cornish pasties and explored the gorgeous local town. She shared how her kids had loved exploring a beautiful little church as part of their free sightseeing day. Charlene then took her kids to the beach which was 'completely empty' and felt like they were abroad. The mum added: 'It was just us there on our own most of the time. It was like having a private beach.' She pointed out this was ideal for her family as her kids 'struggle with crowds.' Then it was time to see some very furry local residents - a population of seals. Charlene shared: 'The kids really wanted to see the seals, a local told us how we could see them for free in their natural habitat. 'It was only a 15 minute walk up the cliffs and was such an amazing moment when we got to the top.' Hidden gem Scots caravan park with luxury hot tubs that's just five steps from the beach The mum then took her brood to visit Land's End, and said that although there was a mini amusement park there, they loved all the free activities nearby. The only thing she paid for was the Tate Modern, but loved seeing the local St Ives art. Charlene said she loved her bargain trip, and concluded: 'This trip made me appreciate how beautiful the uk is. Cornwall is definitely a hidden gem. 'The van was £111, food shop was £80 and extra expenses £60 so in total for all of us it was £250 going on holiday doesn't have to cost a fortune.' 5 5 5 CHARLENE'S MONEY TIP Many people were hugely impressed with her purse-friendly family trip, with her video racking up over 1,000 likes. One said: 'The price you paid is such a steal, I need to do my homework more when booking our caravan holidays.' Charlene advised: 'I find it cheaper to book closer to the date you're going away. "I always check prices they are always changing so just look out.' Another added: 'This sounds like a dream! What a lovely few days away!' Why caravan holidays are so underrated CARAVAN park holidays are a British staple. And with the cost of living crisis wreaking havoc on Britain's purses, more of us are turning to them for an affordable break. Josie O'Brien, Senior Digital Writer on Fabulous, weighs in on why she thinks caravan holidays are seriously underrated... WHEN I was a child, my mum used to collect the £9.50 holiday vouchers in The Sun. She'd use them to book a couple of nights away at a caravan park during the school holidays. As an adult, I fully appreciate the convenience of a humble caravan holiday. No faffing about with passports, no luggage limits and no bog-standard hotel breakfast of stale toast and grey eggs. I still love caravan holidays as an adult. In a world of doing everything for the 'gram, a caravan park brings you back to basics. There's no obligation to get dressed up, no stress to fit a million picturesque excursions in one week and I don't find myself flustered in tourist hot spots like abroad. I love going to coastal caravan parks and strolling along the beach parade. My highlight is always fresh mussels, ice-creams and classic pubs to grab an afternoon tipple in. And then, of course, there's the cost. Staying in a caravan is definitely way cheaper than my international trips. With no expensive hotel bills and the ability to cook my own meals, I'm spending hundreds less than I would abroad. I've had some of my best and most relaxing holidays in caravans. Maybe I'll buy my own one day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHY DO I NEED TO USE A CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT? 'Our skin has a natural exfoliation process that can get faulty over time due to age and environmental stressors,' explains Deborah. 'When this process stops performing at its peak, the results can be dullness, dryness, clogged pores, breakouts, and more visible signs of ageing. 'Chemical exfoliants like AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acid, or salicylic acid) help to gently dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed more effectively. This process reveals smoother, brighter, and healthier-looking skin. It also supports skin barrier by way of better cell turnover. 'Chemical exfoliants also allow other skin care products to absorb better, boosting their effectiveness and maximising overall results.' CAN I USE A CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT EVERY DAY? No, it's not recommended to use a chemical exfoliant everyday. If you're a beginners, it's recommended to start with using it once a week, gradually increasing to two or three times a week at most – it all depends on how well your skin reacts to it. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT? As the name suggests, physical exfoliants use abrasive materials to manually remove dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliants, on the other hand, rely on exfoliating acids to renew the skin for you. Generally speaking, chemical exfoliants are considered gentler and more effective. Some physical exfoliants can be too harsh, leading to micro-tears and long-term damage to your skin barrier. I have spent years exploring all the hidden corners of Cornwall. From sandy beaches to a secret island haven, these are the quiet spots you must visit to dodge the crowds: TOM MULVIHILL
I have always hated crowds. It's one of the reasons why, years ago, I packed up my little flat in London and moved to the remote tip of Cornwall. It's about as far west as you can go without getting your feet wet. Life here is blissfully quiet, save for eight weeks each year when millions of people travel down for their summer holidays. Don't get me wrong: it's wonderful to see so many tourists coming to enjoy my home county. But when the streets of honeypot towns such as St Ives and Fowey become all but impassable, and popular beaches like Porthcurno disappear under a tide of humanity, it's time for me to seek out the quieter corners where tourists seldom tread.

The UK's most breathtaking coastline revealed - and it has 'views to rival Malibu'
A popular coastal destination has been named the most breathtaking in the UK - and it has stunning views to rival Malibu. A new study has uncovered 30 of the most-loved seaside towns across the UK - and two Cornish locations have placed in the top three. Nearly 70 per cent of Brits even believe the UK's coastal views easily rival those abroad. And more are opting to ditch an international beach break to explore the beauty on their doorstep. Of the 30 destinations listed, St. Ives, Cornwall has taken the top spot as the nation's favourite coastal location, thanks to its stunning beaches, clear waters, and picturesque harbour. Though Malibu is known for its glamour and high-end lifestyle, it's been said that St. Ives has 'views to rival' the Californian coastal city - famous for its golden sands and blue waters. In 2022, St Ives was also crowned the happiest place to live in Britain, scoring highly on several factors such as how much people feel a sense of belonging to their area and whether there is access to green space. Following in second place as the UK's favourite coastal destination is Robin Hood's Bay, in North Yorkshire, while Cornwall's Padstow came in third, in the study by commissioned by Haven Holidays. Located 6 miles south of Whitby on the Yorkshire coast, Robin Hood's Bay is a picturesque fishing village known for its charming cobbled streets, historic atmosphere and beautiful coastal setting. Meanwhile, the town, civil parish and fishing port of Padstow offers traditional Cornish pubs, beloved fish and chip spots, a farm and a quaint harbour. Ranking fourth is the Isle of Skye's Portree, famed for its distinctive row of colourful buildings by its harbour, followed by Pembrokeshire's Tenby in fifth place. Simon Palethorpe, CEO at Haven, says the outcome of the survey 'goes to prove you don't need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery'. He adds: 'There's nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea - even more so when it's on home soil. 'Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK.' Meanwhile, a new study has found that of the five most-loved seaside destinations across Europe, four are in Britain – with Welsh locations performing particularly well. The UK beaches are ranked higher than any of the coasts in popular holiday haunts such as Spain, France and Greece. TOP 30 BREATHTAKING UK COASTAL VIEWS St Ives, Cornwall Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire Padstow, Cornwall Portree, Isle of Skye Tenby, Pembrokeshire Poole, Dorset Ilfracombe, North Devon Portmeirion, Gwynedd Shanklin, Isle of Wight South Downs Salcombe, Devon Weymouth, Dorset Brighton, East Sussex Llandudno, Conwy Bournemouth, Dorset Hayle, Cornwall Filey, North Yorkshire Porthmadog, Gwynedd Southwold, Suffolk Lydstep, Pembrokeshire Stromness, Orkney Berwick, North East Great Yarmouth Lochinver, Sutherland Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear Hastings, East Sussex Whitstable, Kent Plockton, Ross and Cromarty Aberystwyth, Ceredigion Pwhelli, North Wales Barafundle Bay Beach in Pembrokeshire was ranked in second place in the analysis from Holidu, an online holiday rental portal. The Welsh bay has a stretch of golden sand and clear water – it is often compared to a beach in the Caribbean. The beach is only accessible via a half-mile walk from the nearest car park, which gives it a true sense of seclusion. Continuing to fly the flag for Britain in third place is the charming Traeth Mwnt on the west coast of Wales, known for its white sand and scenic coastal paths.
