St Mary's School, Waverley dancer placed top six at Dance World Cup World Finals in Spain St Mary's School, Waverley learner and dancer, Boipelo Dichabe, placed top six as a solo dancer at the Dance World Cup World Finals in Spain, which took place from July 3-12. Boipelo represented South Africa in the solo children's jazz, lyrical and contemporary categories. Dance World Cup is a global dance competition for children and young adults. It involves qualifiers held worldwide, leading up to a final competition hosted in a different country each year. South Africa held its qualifiers in March of this year, where dancers from around the country participated. The top six dancers are selected at the qualifiers in Johannesburg and Cape Town; thereafter, the highest score from both qualifiers (Johannesburg and Cape Town) per dance is selected to represent South Africa at the Dance World Cup Grand Finals. 'I placed seventh for jazz and 10th for contemporary. I received a special Golden ticket invitation to participate in a prestigious masterclass being held in Barcelona in September.' Boipelo added that there were nine different categories at the Dance World Cup Grand Finals. These categories included: Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, National or Folklore, Acro, Jazz, Showstopper and Dance. The dancer noted that she always enjoyed Jazz because it brought her a great amount of joy. Lyrical is very special to me because it allows me to tell a story through dance that can move people.' Boipelo said since she qualified for all three categories, she ended up performing all three dances at the Dance World Cup Grand Finals. Mother, co-produced by Faridkot based Prateek Bagi selected for Orizzonti programme at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival
BATHINDA: Mother, a feature film on the life of 'Mother Teresa' has been selected as the opening film of the Orizzonti programme at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. Faridkot based producer Prateek Bagi is co-producer of the film, who filmed the Kolkata (India) portion of the film. Earlier Parteek Bagi' film 'Kalkokkho' had bagged the national award in the best Bengali film category at the 69th National Film Awards in October 2023. Prateek, who is an alumnus of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, is into film production for some years. 'Kalkokkho' highlights the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. "Mother", which has been directed by Macedonian film director and screenwriter Teona Strugar Mitevska has been co-produced by Prateek Bagi, is competing with 18 films in the Orizzonti programme which will be held from August 27 to September 6. The Kolkata leg of the movie was filmed for 11 days across Howrah Bridge, Bara Bazaar, Kumartuli, Southern Avenue, Kalighat, Ahiritola, and at Loreto Convent and St Mary's School in Entally where Mother Teresa once taught. Grandson of freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bagi from Faridkot and son of Satish Bagi and Bindu Bagi, Prateek produced films Kalkokkho (2021), Mon Pontogo (2024) and Srishti (2025) Kalkokkho (21) as producer with production house Raging Films. 'We are elated over the film Mother, co-produced by Prateek selected for the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. Hope it makes it big in the festival', said proud father Satish Bagi, who runs a laboratory at Faridkot.

3-day football tournament begins
The 3-day inter-school football tournament, Franciscan Liga 2025, began at St Francis' College, Hazratganj, on Friday. Chief guest Father Elias Cardoza encouraged players to compete with integrity and embrace valuable lessons from the field. St. Francis' College beat St Mary's School, RDSO, 4-2 in the opening match. A total of 16 city schools are participating in the tournament.

Corp's multi-sports turf inaugurated at Mudavanmugal
Thiruvananthapuram: A multi-sports turf facility at Mudavanmugal by city corporation was officially inaugurated by minister for general education and labour V Sivankutty. Footballer C K Vineeth attended the event as the chief guest. The inauguration also marked the launch of Mayor's Anti-drug Campaign School-Level Football Tournament, aimed at promoting awareness against substance abuse among students. There were 32 school teams from across the city participating in the tournament. As part of the event, women's category matches were held and Nirmala Bhavan School emerged victorious after defeating St Mary's School, Pattom, in a penalty shootout.
