Man dead in shooting at St. Paul homeless encampment, police say

A man was shot and killed at a homeless encampment in St. Paul on Sunday, police say. Authorities say officers responded to the encampment near the 1200 block of Jackson Street at about 1:15 p.m. Officers were directed to a tent in the encampment where the man was, police say. Several people rendered first aid to the man, including police and medics from the St. Paul Fire Department. The victim was later pronounced dead on scene. No arrests have been made. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to identify the victim and determine exact cause of death. Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Paul Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650. Authorities say this is the fifth homicide of 2025 in St. Paul.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but is under investigation. ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - A St. Paul apartment fire left 14 residents displaced, and three people injured Saturday morning. What we know According to the St. Paul Fire Department, police and fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire on the 500 block of Rice Street. Flames were showing from the second floor of the three-floor building, authorities said. Police made the initial entry to the building and were able to evacuate seven people from the first floor of the building. Fire officials say they received reports of trapped residents in the building, and they evacuated six to seven more residents from the third floor. The fire was eventually extinguished on the second floor, before it could spread to other floors and units. Two St. Paul police officers and one resident were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Authorities said 14 adults were displaced after the entire building was condemned. The Red Cross and the building management are helping those were displaced. Multiple cats were also displaced after the fire. Crews fight fire at St. Paul's Groundswell Midway coffee shop

A coffee shop in St. Paul, Minnesota, will be closed Thursday after an overnight fire. WCCO was at the scene as firefighters gathered at Groundswell Midway off Thomas Avenue West and Hamline Avenue North. In a Facebook post, the owners said it was a "surreal and pretty awful night" seeing their "beloved business on fire." WCCO They thanked the St. Paul Fire Department and said everyone was safe. "Really sad to say we won't be able to serve you your latte and scone tomorrow," the owners wrote. It's unclear when they plan to reopen the shop.
