Direct flight between capital & Jharsuguda from next month

Jharsuguda: In a major boost to regional connectivity within Odisha from VSS airport, Star Air has announced to run direct flights between Jharsuguda and Bhubaneswar starting from August 16. The route will operate with introductory fares starting at Rs 1,599 from Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda and Rs 1,699 for the return journey. "This new route not only enhances intra-state connectivity in Odisha but also supports the growing demand for affordable and convenient regional travel," Shilpa Bhatia, chief commercial officer of the airlines, said. The new service is expected to significantly benefit both business and leisure travellers. Jharsuguda, often referred to as the industrial powerhouse of western Odisha, is home to key sectors such as coal mining, aluminium production and thermal power generation. On the other hand, Bhubaneswar is a thriving centre for administration, education and IT, making the route crucial for intra-state economic synergy. Previously, Alliance Air was operating direct flights from VSS airport to Bhubaneswar but suspended its services due to viability gap funding (VGF) issues. Although the VGF issue has been resolved, the airlines is yet to resume operations.

Email bomb threat causes panic at Pune Airport

An email bomb threat sent to the official account at Pune International Airport triggered panic among passengers and airport staff in the early hours of Sunday. The message, received at 1:25 am on June 29, claimed that powerful explosives had been planted in backpacks around the airport premises and on planes, and warned of mass casualties if immediate evacuation wasn't carried out. Upon investigation, it turned out to be a hoax, said officials. The airport police have registered a case under Sections 125 and 351(0) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified sender. (HT FILE) The threat email was written in English and signed by individuals identifying themselves as 'Roadkill' and 'Kyo,' claiming to be behind what they called a 'terror attack,' officials said. According to the FIR lodged at the airport police station by Adnan Mazhar Shaikh, 24, a customer service executive with Star Air, the email read: Shaikh, a resident of Kondhwa who has worked with Star Air for over a year, immediately informed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sudhakar at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room and alerted the airport director, terminal manager, Star Air's local management, and other security agencies. 'Once we received the alert, full emergency protocols were initiated. The CISF, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), airline security teams, and aircraft maintenance staff conducted thorough checks across the terminal and aircraft. No suspicious objects or persons were found,' said Santosh Dhoke, director of Pune Airport. Following the search, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) convened at the airport and declared the threat as 'non-specific,' meaning there was no corroborative evidence to support the claims in the email. The airport police have registered a case under Sections 125 and 351(0) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified sender. 'It appears to be a hoax. However, we have forwarded all details to the cybercrime department to trace the origin and sender of the email,' said senior police inspector Govind Jadhav of the airport police station.

Final assembly line possible in India: Embraer

NEW DELHI: Brazilian aerospace major Embraer says it will increase sourcing from India and even have a final assembly line here if it gets a firm order for 200 aircraft from Indian customers. As of now, only India's biggest regional airline, Star Air, has Embraer aircraft in its fleet. However, the firm is talking to multiple airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, apart from startups, for getting orders. It has established a fully owned Indian subsidiary that will have a dedicated sourcing unit to scout for opportunities in IT, software and engineering. Embraer has nearly 50 planes across 11 aircraft types operating in the country. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
