How to Stream, Surf and Share Effortlessly in Singapore

REPORT Listly by Joanna James Singapore is one of the best countries to visit, especially if staying connected is important. The Lion City is modern, with a touch of history and culture. The technology used in Singapore is top-notch and offers visitors seamless connectivity wherever they visit. Whether you're a tourist exploring the city's attractions or a long-term visitor staying in Singapore, you can enjoy all that the country has to offer. To get the best of everything, it is important to understand the local mobile network and internet landscape of Singapore. Mobile Network Operators in Singapore Singapore's mobile network is dominated by three major operators, which are Singtel, StarHub, and M1. Each provides high-speed internet, great area coverage, as well as a variety of prepaid SIM card options tailored to different needs and travellers. Singtel, for example, is Singapore's largest telecom provider, and they offer Tourist SIM Card packages, which include a generous amount of data, local and international call minutes, and free incoming calls. StarHub, which is known for its competitive pricing, provides an equally generous data allowance, local talk time, and international call credits. M1's Prepaid Tourist SIM offers substantial data packages, local and international call minutes, and the flexibility of topping up as needed. For those arriving at Changi Airport, purchasing a SIM card upon arrival is quite convenient, with numerous kiosks and vending machines offering various options. You don't need to be disconnected from your digital life, even for a minute, inside Singapore. Embracing eSIM Technology A recent development in mobile technology is having an eSIM capability on your phone. What this means is that instead of having a physical SIM added into the SIM slot, one can scan a QR code and have the features of a SIM without actually having it. This is a great feature that has been implemented by many mobile brands worldwide. It is always better to Google if your phone is capable of this function before attempting to purchase one. Singapore's mobile operators provide eSIM options for anyone who has a compatible device, allowing for immediate activation without the need for a physical SIM card. Public Wi-Fi Access Singapore's commitment to connectivity extends to its public Wi-Fi infrastructure. The Wireless@SG initiative provides free Wi-Fi access at numerous locations, including shopping malls, MRT stations, libraries, and public buildings. To connect to such a free network, follow the steps below. Register: Sign up for a Wireless@SG account using your mobile number. Download: Install the Wireless@SGx app for seamless connectivity. Connect: Log in using your credentials, and you'll be automatically connected at any Wireless@SG hotspot. While public Wi-Fi is convenient, it's advisable to use it cautiously for sensitive transactions, as public networks can be less secure than private connections. Staying Connected in Your Apartment For those seeking long stay apartments in Singapore, especially to enjoy extended visits to the country, there are many options available. lyf Farrer Park Singapore, for example, stands out as a modern and chic social living space designed for digital nomads and long-term travellers. Whatever apartment you choose, make sure that it provides high-speed internet and ample wall outlets for all your electronic gadgets. Another aspect to consider is the property's location. Try to choose centrally located apartments with easy access to public transport, which will immensely benefit you in the long run. Tips for Seamless Connectivity Check Compatibility: Ensure your device is unlocked and compatible with Singapore's mobile networks or eSIM technology. Plan Ahead: Consider purchasing an eSIM or researching SIM card options before arrival to save time. Stay Secure: Use VPNs when accessing public Wi-Fi to protect your data. Monitor Usage: Monitor your data usage to avoid unexpected charges, especially if you have a limited plan. Understanding the various connectivity options available can ensure a smooth and connected experience during your stay in Singapore.

Investing in StarHub (SGX:CC3) five years ago would have delivered you a 9.3% gain

For many, the main point of investing is to generate higher returns than the overall market. But every investor is virtually certain to have both over-performing and under-performing stocks. So we wouldn't blame long term StarHub Ltd (SGX:CC3) shareholders for doubting their decision to hold, with the stock down 14% over a half decade. So let's have a look and see if the longer term performance of the company has been in line with the underlying business' progress. AI is about to change healthcare. These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early. There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement. Looking back five years, both StarHub's share price and EPS declined; the latter at a rate of 3.0% per year. This change in EPS is remarkably close to the 3% average annual decrease in the share price. That suggests that the market sentiment around the company hasn't changed much over that time. So it's fair to say the share price has been responding to changes in EPS. You can see how EPS has changed over time in the image below (click on the chart to see the exact values). Dive deeper into StarHub's key metrics by checking this interactive graph of StarHub's earnings, revenue and cash flow. When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. As it happens, StarHub's TSR for the last 5 years was 9.3%, which exceeds the share price return mentioned earlier. This is largely a result of its dividend payments! While the broader market gained around 22% in the last year, StarHub shareholders lost 4.0% (even including dividends). Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 1.8%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Even so, be aware that StarHub is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , you should know about... But note: StarHub may not be the best stock to buy. E-Junkies: Katy Kung agreed to do tough labour in TVB reality show because 'might as well choose the most challenging one', Entertainment News

Hong Kong actress Katy Kung is an example of an artiste who goes all the way for her work, despite the challenging parts of the assignment. In a recent episode of TVB reality series A Day With A Pro, where artistes try out tough jobs, the 35-year-old is seen going all out as a maintenance worker, cleaning out cockroaches and faece-filled drainage systems. Speaking to AsiaOne on May 31 at StarHub's new flagship store in Paragon she said: "A lot of people asked why my company assigned me to do this show. That's actually not the case, they had asked me beforehand if I was okay to do related work like this. "I feel that since I agreed to do this, then I might as well choose the most challenging one. It was an unforgettable experience to have a chance to be exposed to work like this." Katy also recalled vividly of an instance where she opened up a drain cover and cockroaches skittered towards her. "I got quite a shock because they were running in my direction. If they were going in the opposite direction, then maybe I wouldn't be so afraid... I am actually okay seeing cockroaches, so long as they don't fly," she shared. She added that she experienced the tasks of a maintenance worker for two days for filming and while it was tough work, she also didn't want to delay the staff members. Katy shared: "To be honest, it was really tiring, but this was also a job where I had to coordinate with the other maintenance workers. So, I told myself that I needed to work faster, or they would have a difficult time too. "I couldn't just think about myself because everyone was also tired. It was a very hot day and there were no clouds at all. I just told myself to get the task done quickly so that the workers wouldn't have a tough time as well." A staff member offered her a lift home and told her later that the smell actually lingered in their vehicle for a few days. She shared that she was last in Singapore about six years ago and looked forward to eating local food, especially black pepper crabs that evening. View this post on Instagram A post shared by AsiaOne (@asiaonecom) Katy arrived on May 31 and fans gathered at the airport to warmly welcome her. When asked how she felt meeting her fans, she said: "I actually felt quite apologetic today, because there was a delay, and I came out of the arrival hall late. But they were all waiting for me. "I had told them earlier not to come because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to take photos or sign autographs for them, but they were so nice, they waited for me for a long time and were also very enthusiastic. They even bought a pandan cake for me knowing that I love eating it." View this post on Instagram A post shared by hktvbfan (@hktvbfan) Katy also introduced her upcoming TVB drama The Map of Truth, which is expected to be released this year. She shared: "The title of the drama sounds like a variety show, but actually it's a drama. There is a small element of suspense, but it's also a touching story. There may be some scary scenes. It seems like audiences prefer series like this, such as Unchained Medley (2023)." The Map of Truth tells the story of feng shui expert Master Zhuang Yichen (Wayne Lai) who creates a social media channel to discuss and visit places with supernatural elements. As he gains popularity for his content, sceptic influencer Bi Ping (Katy) uses scientific explanations to debunk Master Zhuang's discussions and the two begin a fight to outwit each other, with the line between superstition and reality becoming increasingly blurred. Katy said that while filming the drama, they visited "almost every cemetery in Hong Kong" and shared an unforgettable experience she had. She recounted: "There was a day when I drove myself to the filming location, which was in a cemetery. The cemetery doesn't seem to be maintained and is located at the top of a mountain. A staff member told me [over the phone] that they would arrive in about half an hour, and I could meet them there, so I drove over. "But when I reached there, there was not a single person in sight. I thought I went to the wrong location, but when I called them, I was told that they had a delay and would arrive in another half an hour. I was alone at the cemetery, so I quickly lowered my car seat and closed my eyes to wait for them. That was quite an unforgettable experience." When asked if it was during the day or night, she responded that it was the former, adding with a laugh: "If it was nighttime, I would have left immediately." Him Law explains the 'enjoyment' of playing villainous characters, Entertainment News

While playing a hero can boost an actor's popularity and image on screen, Hong Kong TVB star Him Law likes playing villains. Speaking to AsiaOne last Saturday (May 31) at the newly opened StarHub flagship store in Paragon, the 40-year-old shared that it was actually "very enjoyable" to play these characters. He explained: "When playing a heroic character, there are a lot of times when their dialogue, actions and tone are limited by the viewers' expectations, because that's how a hero should be like. But it's different when playing a villain. "Their purpose is to do bad things and harm others. In the process, they can pretend to be the hero, and they can use any expression and intonation in their speech. The plot has already decided that they are going to do bad things, but there's a lot of space for creativity in the process." Him and TVB actress Katy Kung were in Singapore last weekend where they met and played games with fans at the StarHub flagship store in Paragon on May 31 and also performed outside Jurong Point the following day. View this post on Instagram A post shared by AsiaOne (@asiaonecom) Him last visited Singapore in 2023, where he attended a health fair. When asked how he felt about returning this time round, he shared that it had been a good experience so far. "I think there were a lot of changes. When I arrived at Changi Airport, it's very efficient, everything was automated. I think that's great. I also saw many friends that I haven't seen for a long time, and they are as enthusiastic as always," he said. He added he missed local food including Hainanese chicken rice, nasi lemak, laksa and fish head bee hoon, which he hadn't had the time to eat yet. He said he would be feasting on chili crab that evening, a dish he would always have when he visits because he loves spicy food. "I would also buy pandan cake before I return to Hong Kong. I remember over 10 years ago, when I was in Singapore for a StarHub awards event, fans gave each of the TVB actors some cakes. I remembered I received nine cakes which I brought back to Hong Kong. That's a lot, but I was also truly very happy," he added. [[nid:718658]] Him's fans can expect to see more of him on screen this year, as he talked to us about two of his upcoming dramas with the broadcaster — Golden Forest and I Only Live Twice. "These two characters would give viewers the impression that they are villains, but as the story progresses and how these characters develop... It's not convenient for me to say more at this point," he said coyly. Golden Forest centres around conglomerateur Fang Yangtian (Roger Kwok) who gets in a car accident one day. When he recovers, he announces that he will marry Lin Cheng (Hera Chan) — a woman 30 years his junior — and set up a family trust that would be managed by the family's enemy, lawyer Gao Shen (Him). Yangtian has three sons, perceived by the public as kind and filial but when their father declares his inheritance plans, a bitter war ensues as they find ways to overturn it. In I Only Live Twice, luxury resort owner Wenmin (Anita Yuen) saves a young woman Jiaxin (Kelly Cheung) who is in grave danger after being thrown into the sea while investigating the truth behind her parents' deaths. When Jiaxin declares her desire to seek revenge, Wenmin reveals she is actually the leader of a commercial espionage group Eyes of Venus (EOV) and trains Jiaxin to become an industrial spy under her wing. Jiaxin undergoes transformative facial surgery and changes her name to Xu Yue. After six years of training, she joins Lun Zechen's (Him) company as an internationally renowned designer, with the intention of seeking revenge on him. In the process, she discovers that Wenmin is related to her father's death and all members of EOV, including herself, are just pawns in Wenmin's own revenge plan. Him told us both dramas were mostly filmed in China's Guangdong province and he had a good experience filming them. "I had the chance to work with many actors that I have never collaborated with before, such as in Golden Forest, I worked together with many young actors and I became their 'senior'. I also filmed with Roger Kwok, whom I haven't worked with for a long time, so the whole process was a happy one," he said. Arsenal Football Club has won the Premiership 13 times and is currently second in the league with 71 points, and Manchester City, in third place with 68 points, are guaranteed a spot in next season's Champions League. While both Newcastle United and Chelsea Football Club are currently in the final two spots for Champions League qualification, they are living precariously in fourth and fifth place with 66 points, respectively. The two clubs are closely pursued by both sixth-placed Aston Villa on 66 points and seventh-placed Nottingham Forest on 65 points, setting up an intense battle for the remaining Champions League spots.
