Peterborough Station Quarter £65m project takes step forward
A £65m project to regenerate the area around a city station is getting closer to receiving much-needed government City Council needs to confirm it will be responsible for additional costs in building an area known as the Station Department for Transport (DfT) has agreed to pay nearly £48m towards the project – on the condition that the council is responsible for any "cost overruns".A report being presented to councillors on 23 July said: "For local authorities in receipt of significant public funding, this is a standard request." The government approved the Station Quarter project in May, which would build a new entrance to Peterborough railway station, pedestrianised square and multi-storey car £48m of DfT funding was signed off a few weeks later, with works set to begin in August. At the time, the city's Labour MP, Andrew Pakes, said: "I'm really hopeful we will see the hoardings going up in August and work beginning to start."As well as a refurbished station building, new paths would make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get to the city centre shops - and landmarks like the city's City Council and Network Rail would be responsible for the building works, which are expected to cost £65m in total, with the rest being match-funded by other sources, such as Network Rail and the city council's Towns report said: "The council will be accountable for the agreed level of grant funding provided.. and as such will be responsible for any costs incurred over and above that figure."It added that the project would have "significant social, economic, and environmental regeneration benefits" for the area around the station and wider city centre. New Telford Station Quarter hotel to create 38 jobs
A six-storey, 142-bedroom hotel in the centre of Telford will create 38 local jobs, the local authority has and Wrekin Council said the new Hampton by Hilton hotel will be part of its Station Quarter development and will open in wider development already includes a digital skills teaching centre and there are plans for a new sixth-form centre and 189 of the hotel has already started. The hotel will stand at the corner of Ironmaster's Way and Lawn well as the rooms, it will include a bar and a said it chose Hilton to operate the hotel because the company would "complement Telford's existing hotel and tourism offer".Council leader, Lee Carter, said he expected the hotel to attract visitors and increase footfall in the area, which is close to the town's shopping centre. Hopes for Peterborough station regeneration in Spending Review
A project to transform a city centre station and the area around it may be on the cusp of getting funds from the government for construction to Wednesday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves will deliver her Spending Review, which will confirm how much money the government plans to invest in infrastructure are hopes that £48m of funding for a new Station Quarter in Peterborough will be approved, weeks after the government approved the city's MP, Andrew Pakes, said: "It shows what Peterborough can achieve when we work together." Pakes said he was "one of the most regular commuters" at the station, but thought the building was "sad and tired".He said: "It's not just about a new station building, it's about freeing up all this land around us so we can get some cafes, we can get some housing, we can get some business investment in the city as well." Paul Bristow, the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and a former Peterborough MP, said people had been talking about city centre regeneration since he was a schoolboy."These things do take time," he said."If we can get the Station Quarter going it's the real catalyst to generate North Westgate, something we've been talking about since I was a kid."This is the first step."Works are set to begin in the autumn and construction is expected to take three years. Peterborough's Station Quarter: what does £65m project involve?

What does the project involve and why is it taking so long?
