Tesla Model Y launched in India for Rs 59.89 lakh: Full price breakdown, specs, and showroom location
Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle manufacturer, marked its entry in the Indian market on Tuesday, July 15, by opening its first showroom in Mumbai. Located in Maker Maxity mall at the Bandra Kurla Complex, the city's leading commercial business district, the company has also set up a service centre and warehouse around six kilometres away from the showroom. The first car by the EV maker that will be coming to the Indian market is the Model Y, a mid-range luxury electric vehicle that will be available in two variants. It is reportedly being imported from the company's Shanghai factory. In the United States, the long-range RWD version of the car starts from $37,490 or approximately Rs 32,18,900, which is almost half the price of the Indian variant. This might be because Tesla might be incurring a hefty 70 per cent import duty. However, this might eventually decrease if the company plans to locally assemble its cars in the country. Speculations also suggest that Tesla is planning to open its next store in Delhi, but currently, there are no details on when that might happen. According to Tesla, the rear-wheel drive (RWD) version of the Model Y has an ex-showroom price of Rs 59,89,000, while the long-range RWD edition has an ex-showroom price of Rs 67,89,000. In case you are wondering, the main difference between the two variants is that the Model Y RWD offers a range of up to 500km on a single charge, while the long-range variant has a range of 622 km. The Model Y has a top speed of 201 kmph. While the RWD variant can go from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, the long-range RWD version goes from 0-100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds. Tesla is selling the Model Y in six colourways – Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Quick Silver and Ultra Red. However, the above-mentioned ex-showroom price of the Model Y is for the Stealth Grey colourway only, and you will have to pay extra for the other colours. Tesla also allows buyers to choose from 'All black' and 'Black and White' interiors, but for the latter, you will have to pay Rs 95,000 more. Another thing to note is that the Indian version of the Model Y currently does not have self-driving capability, and you will have to pay Rs 6 lakh to get the feature when it is available in the country. Tesla is also offering finance options with instalments for the Rear-Wheel Drive and the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive starting from Rs 1,14,098 and Rs 1,29,193, respectively. For the RWD and the long-range RWD version, you will have to make downpayments of Rs 6,20,314 and Rs 7,01,115, respectively. The first row of the Tesla Model Y comes with power recline, heated and ventilated seats, and the second row has powered two-way folding and heated seats. It comes with a huge 15.4-inch touchscreen-enabled infotainment system on the front, along with an 8-inch touchscreen in the second row. The inside of the car has a footwell and door pocket ambient lighting, along with aluminium detailing. You also get a hands-free power open on approach for the trunk with a decent-sized front trunk. Talking of safety, the Model Y comes with industry-standard features like automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, and lane departure avoidance, to name a few. You also get 'Dashcam and Sentry Mode' that automatically records while driving and notifies the owner of any suspicious behaviour when the car is parked. Tesla is providing a 4-year or 80,000km warranty, whichever is earlier, on the entire vehicle. Meanwhile, the battery and drive unit come with an 8-year or 1,92,000km warranty, whichever is earlier. Tesla is offering a four-year or 80,000 km warranty for the vehicle, while the battery and drive unit comes with an eight-year or 1,92,000 km warranty (whichever is earlier).
