Police announce $50K reward for location of Toronto girl who disappeared 40 years ago

Toronto police announce a renewed appeal for information about the disappearance of Nicole Morin who went missing 40 years ago. A $50,000 reward has been announced for information on the whereabouts of eight-year-old Nicole Morin, who disappeared from an Etobicoke apartment building 40 years ago. Police announced the reward at a news conference on Wednesday outside the apartment building where Morin went missing on July 30, 1985. 'If you know something, anything that could help bring answers, we ask you to come forward,' Det.- Sgt. Steve Smith told reporters on Wednesday. 'This case is not closed, it has never been forgotten, and it only takes one piece of new information to make that difference.' Investigators previously said that on the day she disappeared, Morin had made plans to meet a friend in the lobby of her building and go swimming. According to police, at around 11 a.m. that day, she said goodbye to her mother and left the apartment. Morin was never seen again, police said. Toronto police carried out an extensive search and investigation, which included the creation of a 20-member task force. 'Despite one of the most extensive searches in Toronto police history, Nicole remains missing,' Smith said. The $50,000 reward will be valid for a period of one year, he noted. Smith said the police force's practices for investigating missing persons in Toronto has 'evolved' since 1985. 'We have specialized investigators, stronger partnerships, and better tools, including the MCSC (Missing Children Society of Canada) rescu app, which now empowers the public to join digital search efforts, receive urgent messages, and help bring missing children home,' he said. Speaking at the news conference on Wednesday, Crime Stoppers Chair Sean Sportun urged members of the public to come forward, noting that the 'smallest detail can make the difference.' 'Today we stand together to ask the citizens of Toronto, especially those who lived in this building and community at the time, to take a moment to think back to that day. Ask yourself, did you see something, did you hear something, did you notice anything unusual in the days before or after Nicole went missing,' he said. 'Even if it seemed minor or meaningless at the time… That one piece of information could finally help answer the question we've all been asking for four decades. What happened to Nicole... The one undeniable truth in this decades-long mystery is this, someone, somewhere, knows something."

STEVE SMITH INTERVIEW: Bazball in the Ashes? England will need to try something different - we won't just be serving up flat pitches in Australia

As he sat in his high-rise New York apartment last week, 3,000 miles from Manchester, Steve Smith couldn't help but keep an eye on events at Old Trafford as England battled India, and what it will mean for him in four months' time. 'It all kicked off last game, didn't it?' Australia 's superstar batsman told Mail Sport. 'It's been a really good series with some good cricket played. Some big scores and some pretty flat wickets.

Toronto police offer $50K reward for disappearance of 8-year-old in 1985

Social Sharing Toronto police are offering a $50,000 reward for information in the cold case of an eight-year-old girl who disappeared 40 years ago. Police announced the reward outside the same Etobicoke apartment building where Nicole Morin went missing on July 30, 1985. The Toronto Police Service (TPS) say she was last seen around 11 a.m. after leaving her apartment to meet a friend for a swim, but she never arrived. "We have no hard evidence. After she went in that elevator it's almost like she just disappeared," said Det. Sgt. Steve Smith with TPS. "We're hoping that this [reward] brings somebody to bring that one tip to us that tells us where Nicole is." Smith says police have conducted "one of the most extensive searches" in Toronto police history, but have not located Morin, who would now be 48 years old. Investigators have released an updated age-progressed image of Morin, showing what she may look like as an adult, and are offering the monetary reward for information that leads to her location. Smith says the case has "never been forgotten" and urges anyone with information to come forward.

Lorraine Kelly accidentally brushes her teeth with washing powder while husband Steve Smith brands the couple 'mingin' as they leave luxuries behind for Zimbabwe camping trip

Lorraine Kelly and husband Steve Smith have left luxuries behind for their picturesque Zimbabwe camping trip. But despite being left 'mingin' as they roughed it, the broadcaster, 65, and her partner of 33-years, appeared to love every moment as they got up close and personal with hippopotamuses and crocodiles. One mishap while travelling in their camper saw Lorraine accidentally brush her teeth with 'travel wash' while Steve, who shares daughter Rosie, 31, with his wife, joked the pair's equal stenches were 'cancelling each other out'. Taking to his Instagram he shared a clip of the getaway as the couple dined outdoors and enjoyed the scenery before bedding down in their van. Steve captioned the video: 'Another great day at mana pools. One of us brushed their teeth with travel wash ( no me ) before we set off the see what we could find'. 'Lots@of ele's antelopes, warthogs, jackals, hippos and crocs. The wild dogs have moved on and we never saw lions but we heard them in the night. Kept me awake!'. He went on: 'We're both so mingin now but at least we're cancelling each other out! Finally getting used to the 4WD with the funny wee second gear lever and the hub locks. Early night , up in the tent at 6 like toddlers before the bitey things come out of the bush ' While Lorraine commented: 'To be fair the travel wash was in the same wash at as the toothpaste and both tubes the same size'. Steve has famously stayed out of the spotlight and in his wife's shadow, with Lorraine joking 'his idea of hell would be a premiere' - but he understands the demands of her role in the entertainment world. She previously told The Mirror: 'He picks up the slack and always has. I couldn't do what I do if it weren't for him. He makes me laugh an awful lot. He's very kind and a brilliant dad.' Lorraine added: 'His idea of hell on earth would be at something like a premiere. It would be like having needles stuck in his eyes. That does help. It must be very odd being with someone who enjoys walking down a red carpet.' The host also lauded her partner for his support when she was going through perimenopause. She said: 'It was absolutely horrible. I completely lost myself. My husband didn't know what was going on. He said, "what can I do, how can I help?" It was him who said, "you have to get some help."' In 2021, Lorraine gave a rare insight to her marriage with Steve, revealing their sex life is ' toddling along nicely '. While Lorraine commented: 'To be fair the travel wash was in the same wash at as the toothpaste and both tubes the same size' The daytime television presenter said the secret to keeping intimacy alive is 'having confidence in yourself, adding that 'a lot of older women can feel invisible'. 'It is all about being confident in yourself. A lot of older women can feel invisible, but I don't', she told the Mirror. It comes after Lorraine reportedly signed a major deal with ITV rival Channel 4 for a huge budget travel series after her daytime show was hit by brutal cuts. The Scottish presenter's morning show has also seen her key production role, Head of Lorraine be axed, according to The Sun On Sunday. And this is just the latest in a series of blows for the show, as the year-round hour-long show was reduced to just 30 weeks of 30-minute slots from next year. Lorraine first joined ITV in 1984 and has appeared on many flagship shows including GMB alongside Eamonn Holmes. A source told the publication: 'Channel 4 were delighted to have Lorraine on board. It was exciting for Lorraine to do something different and be on location again. 'Despite the apparent slight in the ITV daytime shake-up, Lorraine's loyal fanbase isn't to be underestimated and they will follow her wherever she goes. The source continued and claimed she is 'gutted' over the cuts and is now 'opening her eyes' to upcoming options in the industry. An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline: 'We have always said that from January 2026, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be three editorially distinct shows which will be produced by one team. 'These changes are not about the performance of the shows or the staff who produce them, with Lorraine only last month achieving its highest audience share in four years. 'We can assure our viewers that their favourite daytime shows will remain familiar to them on screen."

Ahmed's 'game of a lifetime' for promotion-chasing Leics

"It was probably the game of my life." England all-rounder Rehan Ahmed got straight to the point when describing what it was like to take 13 wickets and contribute a century with the bat in Leicestershire's dominant County Championship win against Derbyshire last week. Not since the Victorian age has a Leicestershire player taken 12 wickets or more and registered a ton in the same game. The last to do so was Fred Geeson in 1901. For 20-year-old Ahmed, the once-in-a-125-year performance was a headline-grabbing way of underlining what sort of cricketer he aspires to be. His progression in the game been likened to that of Steve Smith's, who debuted as a leg-spinning all-rounder for Australia but established himself as a world-beating batsman. When the comparison was put to Ahmed after he career-defining performance at Central Co-op County Ground, his reply was fused with confidence. "I want to be a proper leg-spinner and proper batsman, and there is nothing stopping me apart from myself," he told BBC Radio Leicestershire. "This is probably the game of my life so far, and it's just nice to know the practice that you are doing is working. "It was great fun out there." Rehan Star-med helps The Foxes thrash Derbyshire Ahmed's 13-144 helps leaders Leics thump Derbyshire For some, this was a clear message from Ahmed to England selectors ahead of the Ashes series in Australia starting later this year. Ahmed last featured in a Test match for England in October. From day one against Derbyshire, Ahmed put on a show that had him anointed as 'Star-med' by the end. He was one of three Foxes players to score a century, with Lewis Hill top-scoring with 151 and Peter Handscomb contributing 101, in Leicestershire's first inning, which set the Division Two leaders up for the 189-run win that has them edging towards promotion. The 115 from Ahmed was his third consecutive hundred in the Championship. He followed that up on day two with a masterful display of spin, taking 6-51 from 20 overs to help bowl the hosts out for 189. He put on a quickfire 26 with the bat after that to help put Leicestershire in command of the game, before completing his match-winning performance with 7-93 to take his bowling figures to an astonishing 13-144 from 60 overs. It was a huge haul in what was a top-of-the-table clash of regional rivals who are both challenging for promotion. "This week was my week, but also it was Pete's week - he got a 100 and Lewis Hill got a massive 150," Ahmed said after the match. "We are all loving each other's performances, and as long as we keep doing that we'll be sweet."
