NASCAR Driver Stewart Friesen Injured in Horrific Dirt Crash
NASCAR Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen is in the hospital after a wild crash during a dirt race in Quebec last night. The incident happened during the Super DIRTcar Series feature at Autodrome Drummond. Friesen's car flipped, caught fire and was hit again after landing back on the track. The crash happened between turns 3 and 4 when Friesen's #44 car hit the tire barrier at full speed. The impact sent the car over the wall and landed upside down on fire. As the field tried to avoid the wreck another car hit Friesen's car. Safety crews were quick to respond and the race was red flagged as Friesen was taken to the hospital. He'll need surgery. CT scans cleared him of any head, neck or spine damage but the pelvic injury is an 'open book' fracture meaning the break is in multiple places. He's stable and has been moved to a bigger hospital for surgery and further care. Friesen had already locked himself into the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs with a win earlier this season at Michigan but his injuries now put his postseason in jeopardy. Only two races left before the playoffs start on August 30 at Darlington. NASCAR does allow medical waivers in some cases but there's no word yet from Halmar Friesen Racing on what the plan will be going forward. Other drivers involved in the crash were okay. Also, officials at the scene said Stewart Friesen was awake and talking to medics after the wreck. Fans and fellow drivers have since been sending out support for the Ontario native who is well respected on both dirt and pavement. More to come once Friesen has surgery and starts his recovery. For now his focus is on healing while his team figures out what to do for the rest of the NASCAR season. NASCAR driver hospitalized and in 'tremendous pain' after horrifying injuries from crash in Canada
Stewart Friesen, a NASCAR Truck Series driver, is lucky to be alive after fracturing his pelvis, breaking a leg and sustaining other injuries in a fiery wreck on a dirt track in Quebec on Monday night. The 42-year-old is in a 'tremendous amount of pain,' according to a statement from his wife, Jessica. 'Stewart has suffered an unstable/open-book pelvic fracture, meaning his pelvis is broken in two or more places, with a large hematoma on the area,' she wrote. 'He also has a fractured right leg. Both of these injuries will require surgery. Stewart was transferred to a larger hospital this morning for these procedures.' The good news is that the Ontario native is alert and was talking to track officials before being transported to a local hospital. And best of all: Friesen avoided any head, neck and spinal injuries. That would come as a major surprise to anyone who witness the crash at the Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, which has since gone viral. Footage from the Super DIRTcar Series race shows Friesen's Big Block Modified class car sliding into the outer wall after slightly bumping into another vehicle coming out of a corner on the 16th lap of the race. Friesen's car was then launched upwards and did several flips before colliding with rivals Alex Yankowski and Justin Stone, according to Footage from the Super DIRTcar Series race shows Friesen's Big Block Modified class car sliding into the outer wall after slightly bumping into another vehicle coming out of a corner As reported by Phil Allaway, the multiple fractures made it difficult to get Friesen to be stabilized and removed from his vehicle, which ultimately took around 30 minutes. A four-time winner on the NASCAR Truck Series, Friesen recently won a race in Michigan that qualified him for the circuit's upcoming playoffs. That, of course, is now in question as Friesen faces multiple surgeries and a potential lengthy recovery period. Friesen's participation in a dirt-track race isn't a surprise, even given his status on a national circuit like the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR and Indy Car drivers have long been known to take part in various local racing scenes during gaps in their respective schedules. Infamously, former NASCAR and Indy Car driver Tony Stewart was racing on a dirt track in Canandaigua, New York in 2014 when he collided with another driver, Kevin Ward Jr., who had left his vehicle after a wreck. Ward was sent flying across the track to his death. Stewart was later sued over the incident, and while he denied any wrongdoing, he and the Ward family ultimately settled out of court.

NASCAR Truck Series Driver Stewart Friesen Severely Injured in DIRTcar Series Race
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen, who qualified for this year's playoffs with a June victory at Michigan, is undergoing treatment for multiple injuries he suffered in a vicious crash during a Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec, Canada. Jessica Friesen said on social media that her husband suffered an 'unstable/open-book pelvic fracture, meaning his pelvis is broken in two or more places with a large hematoma on the area.' He also broke his right leg. She said both injuries would require surgery, and he was transferred to a larger hospital Tuesday morning for the procedures. CT scans showed no head, neck or spinal injuries. 'His vitals are stable, and after receiving additional pain medication, he is in better spirits and resting,' Jessica, who also races, posted on X (formerly Twitter). The accident occurred Monday night during a dirt modified race. It was triggered when Friesen's car collided with the end of the outside wall. That launched him into the air, and he began flipping. His car burst into flames before coming back onto the track where another car slammed into it. He had to be removed from his car by the track's crew. Jessica wrote on social media, 'Thank you to Tommy Conroy and Martin Roy, who stayed with Stewart last night. … Thank you to the manufacturers who have made dirt modifieds as safe as possible. And to the track crew for their patience and hard work getting Stew out of the car.'
