Lily Allen reveals abusive ex's brutal put-down to 'assert control' over her

Lily Allen has spoken about how an ex-partner 'bullied and abused her'. Rising to fame in 2005, Lily's debut single Smile reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart, while her debut album Alright, Still peaked at number 2. Throughout her career to date, she's won a Brit Award and been nominated for a Grammy and Laurence Olivier Award. Over the years the 40-year-old has also seen her private life generate plenty of attention, with the star now detailing how a past relationship affected her self-esteem. On the latest episode of her podcast Miss Me?, which she hosts with friend Miquita Oliver, Lily detailed the lengths her ex – who she didn't name – would go to in a bid to assert control over her. Calling the ex 'abusive and bullying', she went on to explain: 'It was somebody I was in a relationship with would do it to me [accusing her of having poor hygiene] and I don't think that it was real'. 'I think that it was like a form of bullying and abuse, it was a horrible one. And as bullying forms of abuse go, it's a really horrible one.' She continued: 'Yeah, it was like done on purpose to make me feel self-conscious and sh** about myself. And make them feel powerful. I don't think I've brushed my hair in any relationship. I just don't brush my hair full stop.' In recent months Lily has also been open about her recent marriage break-down to ex-husband David Harbour. Earlier this year it emerged she'd split from the Stranger Things star, 50, whom she met in 2019 and married the following year. Since their split it's been reported that he'd been on dating apps while they were still together and also engaged in a three-year long affair. Late last year Lily described 'not being in a great place mentally' and later that she was 'feeling like a burden when low and lonely'. Lily was previously in a relationship with the Chemical Brothers musician Ed Simons for five months in 2007. She then went to meet builder and decorator Sam Cooper two years later. They went on to marry in 2011 and gave birth to their daughter Ethel the same year. The couple then had a second daughter – Marnie – in 2013. However, they split in 2015 after Lily admitted to cheating on her husband with female escorts, which she detailed in her memoir My Thoughts Exactly. She has also previously dated art dealer Jay Jopling and grime MC Meridian Dan and was recently linked to Happy Valley actor James Norton. On her podcast last year Lily admitted she 'had children for all the wrong reasons'. 'I was yearning for unconditional love, which I haven't felt in my life since I was a child,' she said. 'Also, my career was at such a high speed, you know high pressure and I'm a people pleaser and I felt like very overwhelmed by what was happening. 'I just didn't get much respite and I felt like the one way to stop people hassling me, it's not about me it's about this other person that's inside me.' More Trending Earlier this month she also spoke about having several abortions, saying she would 'get pregnant all the time'. 'Abortions, I've had a few, but then again I can't remember exactly how many,' she said, before estimating she'd had 'about four or five'. Her comments come a few years after she took to the stage at Glastonbury with Olivia Rodrigo to sing her 00s classic F**k You in protest of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade that week. If you are experiencing domestic abuse, you are not alone. And whether you are currently coping with or have made the decision to leave, you do have options. If you are thinking about leaving, domestic abuse charity Refuge suggests starting a record of abusive incidents, which might include saving pictures or messages, or making notes of times, dates and details of incidents. The next step is to make copies of important documents such as court orders, marriage certificates, National Insurance Numbers and your driving licence. In the meantime, identify the safer areas of your home so that you know where to go if your abuser becomes aggravated. Ideally, this should be a room with a phone and a door or window to the outside. If you feel ready to leave, start by making a plan for a safe, reliable route out. If you feel safe to do so, pack an emergency bag so that you leave in a hurry if needed. You can access a local refuge, either with or without children, for as long as you need to stay. The address is confidential. The National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 2000 247) is open 24-hours a day and has all the details of refuges in your area. In an emergency situation, ring 999 and ask for the police. If you aren't able to talk, try the Silent Solution: after dialling 999, listen to the questions from the operator and respond by coughing or tapping your device, if possible. If prompted, press 55 to let the operator know it's an emergency – you'll be put through to the police. Read more here. Got a story? Historic Edinburgh churches walking trail unveiled

The Trail takes in all three city cathedrals, including: St Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile, where Queen Elizabeth II laid at rest; St Mary's Catholic Cathedral on York Place, visited by Pope John Paul II in 1982; and St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral near Haymarket, the city's highest building. Smaller churches highlighted include: Canongate Kirk, the parish church to the royal Palace of Holyrood House; St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, which is modelled on Trafalgar Square's St Martin-in-the-Fields; and Old St Paul's, which hosts Alison Watt's iconic painting Still. It was designed by Anne Martin, a congregant from the Episcopal Diocese. The Very Revd John Conway, Provost of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh, said: 'This lovely initiative provides a route to walk between the landmark churches of our beautiful city. Our hope is that the Trail not only shows people how to make their way from one church to another, but also helps reveal the long shared history and deepening friendship between us all as church communities.' Monsignor Jeremy Milne, Administrator of St Mary's Catholic Cathedral, Edinburgh, said: 'The ecumenical Walking Trail takes you through the heart of the city and is a brilliant exploration of Edinburgh's rich Christian heritage and living communities. It is a well-chosen sample of Christian history, culture and worship which offers rich reward to those who set out along its path.' The new walking route celebrates 10 of Edinburgh's most historic churches (Image: Peter Backhouse) The Revd Dr Scott Rennie, Minister of St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh, said: 'Edinburgh has some of Scotland's most uplifting places of worship, and I hope the Trail encourages people from far and wide to discover some of them. It is wonderful for our three church communities to be working together.' The Revd Fiona Reynolds, Advisor for Christian Life at the Episcopal Diocese of [[Edinburgh]], said: 'The history of the city and its churches are intertwined, and so it is fitting that our three denominations are part of this venture. It has been great seeing this Walking Trail develop from a spark of an idea to publication and launch.' Anne Martin, who edited the Trail leaflet and is a congregant in the Episcopal Diocese of Edinburgh, said: 'Setting up the Walking Trail has given an ecumenical opportunity for three Edinburgh church communities to work together to welcome visitors, and I hope it will lead to many more.'

Gavin Bazunu's first-team bid as Southampton travel to Spain for training camp

Gavin Bazunu will resume his bid to win back his place in the Southampton first-team this week in Spain. He is one of three Ireland players to make manager Will Still's squad for the trip, which includes two pre-season friendlies against Spanish opposition. The Saints, who last season were relegated from the Premier League, will take on Segunda Division side CD Castellón on Wednesday, and Espanyol on Saturday. Goalkeeper Bazunu hasn't played competitively for Southampton since a 3-2 win against Watford in April 2024. He has had some minutes already in pre-season. He played in the second-half in a 2-1 win over Eastleigh, and the second of two 60-minute games against Gillingham. Three days after the Watford game, Bazunu ruptured his achilles during the warm-up ahead of the Preston game. The former Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper went on loan to Standard Liege during the January transfer window and played eight games for the Belgian side, before a knee injury cut short his spell there. His new boss Still is familiar with Belgian football. He was born and raised near Brussels and managed Lierse and Bierschot, before working in France with Stade de Reims and Lens. He took over from Ivan Juric, who was only in the role for four months. Bazunu will be eager to get back between the sticks at club level, and push for an international return. The last of his 22 caps to date came in a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in March 2024. He was back in the squad for the Nations League play-off against Bulgaria in March, but was on the bench as Caoimhin Kelleher held onto the number one spot. The Dubliner's Ireland pals Ryan Manning and Will Smallbone have also travelled for the training camp. Bazunu is one of four goalkeepers in Still's 27-man squad for the training camp, with Alex McCarthy, Dylan Moody and Aaron Ramsdale also aiming to impress in Spain. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' post-credits scene revealed — with a familiar face

Spoilers below. A word that makes 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' fans shudder? 'Still.' The 1998 sequel 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,' starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Brandy Norwood, was ripped by critics and moviegoers at the time for being a low-quality follow-up. 3 A former franchise star makes a surprise appearance during the end credits of the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer) AP To this day, it's considered several notches below the original. But, in the post-credits sequence of the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' in theaters now, one of the stars of 'Still' nonetheless returns to the freaky fold: Brandy's Karla Wilson. The shocker scene begins in a house as a TV shows a news report about the latest round of Fisherman murders in seaside Southport, North Carolina. Then a man appears. 'Isn't that your old college roommate?' he asks as Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James pops up onscreen. Dramatically, Brandy enters. 'Yes,' says Karla. 'People are always trying to kill that woman. I hope she's in therapy.' 3 Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood both survived the carnage of 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Then the doorbell rings, and Hewitt, who stars in the film alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray, is standing at the door. 'Julie! Oh my God, it's been years!' Karla says. 'I was watching the news, and you can't catch a damn break!' A stone-faced Julie replies, 'I need your help.' 'Who are we f–king up this time?' asks Brandy, setting up a possible sequel. In 'Still,' Julie and Karla win a radio contest that gets them a free trip to the Bahamas. But the prize is a setup. Ben Willis — aka the Fisherman serial killer — is waiting for them on the island, hook in hand. 3 One of the new stars of 'I Know What You Did Last Sumer' is Chase Sui Wonders. AP In the end, Julie and Karla both survive the Caribbean carnage. 'That was in the contract,' Brandy, 46, told Entertainment Tonight in June. 'Black people don't last in horror films, so I had to put that in the contract.' The new refresh of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' actually mocks the spotty reputation of 'Still.' When college kid Teddy (Tyriq Withers) suggests his frightened friends just 'f–k off to the Bahamas' to avoid the wrath of the Fisherman, Prinze Jr.'s bar owner Ray glares at him. 'For reasons I cannot get into, I wouldn't do that,' he says.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White with the latest on Caitlin Clark's injury

NEW YORK -- Caitlin Clark will miss her 11th game of the season on Wednesday night, continuing a frustrating season for the Indiana Fever star. Clark suffered a right groin injury, her fourth separate muscle injury of the season, on Tuesday night against Connecticut in Boston. She grabbed at her groin area with about 30 seconds left in the game, then was visibly emotional as she left the game, putting a towel over her head. "The most important thing for me was just making sure that she was okay," coach Stephanie White said. "You know, anybody who's been injured, as most of us have right now, being injured and continuing to have setbacks is frustrating, mentally, emotionally, and oftentimes, being injured is isolating. So you know, from my standpoint, the primary conversations that we've had last night and today are just checking in. 'Are you good? How can we help?'" Clark was originally listed as questionable in the 1 p.m. injury report, then downgraded to out around 5 p.m. White said the downgrade was in response to imaging Clark was able to get on her groin on Wednesday afternoon in New York. Re-live Caitlin Clark's rookie season with our book Still, White is optimistic about Clark's health, considering her day-to-day. "I consider it good news, just because, for me, if it's anything that we're talking about day-to-day, it's always good news for me," White said. This is the first season Clark has had trouble with injuries, going her entire college career and rookie season without missing a game. She had left quad tightness that kept her out of the preseason opener, then suffered a quad strain in May that kept her out five games. Soon after returning from the quad strain, she had a left groin injury that kept her out another five. Now, she has a right groin injury. Doyel: Caitlin Clark is biggest reason WNBA All-Star Game is in Indy. She could miss it?!? While Clark hasn't necessarily re-aggravated any of her injuries this season, being injured in the first place can lead to other, similar injuries because of overcompensation on muscles to make up for the injured one. "I'm not really sure that it's a re-injury as much as a different kind of injury," White said. "I know oftentimes, when you're working with injuries in the groin and the quad and the hamstring and all of those things, they're all kind of tied together. And it's not always just one thing, you know. So I think, yes, absolutely, the big picture is the most important her for her health and wellness long-term." White said that she and Clark haven't talked about her status past Wednesday's game. The Fever don't necessarily have a stake in what Clark, who was planning to be a large part of the weekend in Indianapolis, will do. They can make recommendations on if they would like her to participate or not, but it will ultimately be up to Clark and her representatives in how much she will participate in the 3-point contest and All-Star Game, among other appearances. "Caitlin and her team will make decisions when it comes to All-Star," White said. "You know, for me, it's a big deal for us to have All-Star in Indianapolis. And of course, with Caitlin being a focal point of all of that. As the coach of the Indiana Fever, it's not a bigger deal than our long term season, but it's also part of the fun. So those are conversations that Caitlin will have with her group. I probably won't be a part of those, but we're gonna support her no matter what."
