HBO has released a sneak peek of its upcoming Harry Potter TV series with the first photos of actor Dominic McLaughlin in his Harry Potter costume and Nick Frost dressed as Rubeus Hagrid. The show has started production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., which is where the original movie franchise was filmed from 2000 to 2010. The network has also made a few more casting announcements for supporting characters, including Harry's cousin Dudley Dursley and fellow Gryffindor Neville Longbottom. The show is set to premiere in 2027 and will be based on the original story but with major plot changes, and each season will focus on one of the seven books in the internationally popular literary series. The episodes are being written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner; Mark Mylod, who worked as an executive producer and director on the HBO drama Succession, will direct several episodes, according to Warner Bros. In December, Variety reported that Discovery global streaming chief JB Perrette said the show is expected to be a 10-year project. Here's what we know so far about the cast. McLaughlin will be playing the iconic role of Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe starred as the character from 2001 through 2011. The Scottish actor, who is about 11 years old, is also set to appear in the BBC's Gifted series, which is expected to premiere sometime in late 2025, and Sky's new original film Grow. Eleven-year-old Stanton will play Hermione Granger, one of the brightest witches of her generation. The character was previously played by actress Emma Watson in all eight Harry Potter films. This is Stanton's first onscreen role, having previously starred in Matilda on London's West End in 2023. Stout will play Ron Weasley, the sixth and youngest son in the Weasley family. English actor Rupert Grint originated the role, starting when he was just 11 years old. Sowela nursing students building experience in expanded simulation lab
Sowela's high-fidelity simulation labs provide students with practical experience in a safe environment using state-of-the-art mannequins that simulate bodily functions. (Special to the American Press) In the fall, the nursing students at Sowela Technical Community College will have full access to expanded simulation lab space. Sowela's high-fidelity simulation labs, located in the H.C. Drew Nursing and Allied Health Building, provide students with practical experience in a safe environment using state-of-the-art mannequins that simulate bodily functions. Instructors sit outside the labs to conduct the simulations, while the students are dropped into realistic scenarios. These scenarios could include moderating a mannequin's temperature or conducting an emergency C-section on a mannequin. The patients are portrayed by the instructors, who talk into speakers to prompt the students. Video capture systems were installed in the labs to record the sessions, which allows instructors to sit with their students to debrief and analyze the simulation results, said Kristine Stout, Sowela School of Nursing and Allied Health Dean. Students participate in pediatric, OB, adult and geriatric simulations to prepare for their careers. Some scenarios are simple, but some are complex and continue into the next day, increasing in severity. Nursing (RN) and practical nursing program (LPN) st udents previously had access to three high-fidelity labs, but the recent expansion has increased the number to five. The 2,015 square feet of lab space has allowed instructors to curate specialized spaces. The two new labs are the pediatrics and labor and delivery simulation labs, while the other three house three adult mannequins for other medical scenarios. The project was funded by a $503,000 Rapid Response Grant from the Louisiana Technical and Community College System. The college applied for the grant in 2023 to prepare for an increase in students. Last year, Sowela doubled the number of RN cohorts from two to four, which opened enrollment for the spring semester as well as the fall semester. Stout said they needed more lab space with the influx of new enrollment and to support the LPN students, who also participate in high-fidelity lab simulations. In the meantime, classes and students had to adapt to more students by taking turns with the labs and classroom spaces, with instructors taking time out of their day to switch out mannequins to align with upcoming simulations. 'It was a lot of back and forth, back and forth.' The grant has not only allowed the department to set up permanent labs for various, simultaneous scenarios, but it has also helped fund a new faculty member and a new child mannequin to expand simulation capabilities. The new lab suite also has a surgical scrub sink, furthering the immersive experience of the simulations. Students begin participating in simulations during their first semester. They practice clinical skills and apply their classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. But they also develop soft skills that are necessary for students to succeed in the Allied Health sector, including task delegation, time management, critical thinking and communication. If students are going to make a mistake, the Sowela instructors want them to make it in the simulation lab, Stout said. 'Simulation's a safe place for students because they can't harm anybody in here. They're not real,' she explained. 'If they're going to make a mistake, we want them to make it in here before they ever get into the clinical setting. It's a high-pressure area without the faculty in there, and it's a realistic experience. They're having to think like nurses, but they also have their team with them.' The lessons students learn are not just derived from major missteps, but also small routine mistakes — like forgetting to verify the patient's identity or sanitize their hands. Experiencing every aspect of the job, from exhibiting patience with difficult patients to life-threatening situations, helps students build the instincts needed to succeed. For a well-rounded experience, the multidisciplinary simulations will have four to five roles, such as an RN, LPN, respiratory specialist or a member of the patient's family. The chain of learning extends past the students' peers. Sowela partners with Louisiana State University to include their residents in the simulations. This familiarizes the students with the working relationships between RNs and doctors, and grants residents an opportunity to pass on their knowledge. The labs also support students from other Sowela campuses. The scope of the simulations is constantly expanding, she noted. They hope to include other programs on campus for large interdisciplinary simulations in the future. Registration for the fall semester is open. Oklahoma State's Preston Stout runs away with title at 2025 Northeast Amateur
Preston Stout had a dominating victory Saturday to capture the 2025 Northeast Amateur title at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island. Stout, a rising junior at Oklahoma State, vaulted into contention during Thursday's second round, tying the course record with an 8-under 61. He then slammed the door Saturday, shooting 4-under 65 in the final round, finishing at 9 under for the week and winning by eight shots over 16-year-old Miles Russell, the only other player to finish under par. With the win, Stout officially locked up his spot in the 2025 U.S. Amateur at Olympic Club in San Francisco, but there was hardly any doubt. He's ranked eighth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. But the win did likely help solidify his spot on the U.S. Walker Cup team, set for Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point in California. Stout was far from the only Oklahoma State golfer to collect a big win Saturday. Teammate Ethan Fang became the first American in 18 years to win the British Amateur. Fang, No. 7 in WAGR, and Stout both helped the Cowboys win their 12th national championship last month at Omni La Costa, and now they're off to great starts this summer and have busy schedules ahead. The Northeast Amateur is the second event of the Elite Amateur Golf Series. Tyler Watts had a record win last week at the Sunnehanna Amateur. Up next is the North & South Amateur, contested at Pinehurst, set for June 22-28.

Stout recognized for community impacts with Large Business of the Year
MENOMONIE — While being recognized as Large Business of the Year by the Menomonie Chamber of Commerce, the University of Wisconsin-Stout also celebrated its role in the community. The recognition comes as the chamber annually recognizes several entities in the community, including small businesses, with this year's recipient as Markquart Menomonie; nonprofits, recognizing The Bridge to Hope; emerging leaders and others. Seth Hudson, executive director of corporate relations and economic engagement, said the recognition is an honor. 'It really celebrates our partnerships with the community and our relationships with businesses and our collaborations that we put in place over a number of years,' he said. 'We sit in the heart of downtown Menomonie and we are a large economic impact to the community as well, but we see ourselves in a relationship where we are working collectively and I think that's what this award really calls out and shows.' Amid this recognition, the university was also able to talk about community impact. On average, Stout sees roughly 7,000 students enroll and attend classes annually. Furthermore, the college employs roughly 1,100 faculty and staff throughout their campus and off-campus facilities. In total, the university has an estimated annual economic impact of $306 million. 'Stout is a very large driver for our community,' said Ashley DeMuth, Menomonie Chamber CEO. 'When the Chancellor [Katherine Frank] was first hired, I had the opportunity to get to know her a little bit and it was fun getting to know her and watching her get to know the community through the eyes of the university. Because the university is not only our largest employer in the community, but it also brings in those large influx of temporary residents to the community as well.' Hudson said as part of their role, there are strong relationships with industry within the community created through a variety of programming, alumni relationships and investments into the community. For the region as a whole, Hudson said, 'we're very fortunate to have that educational ability and the ability to work with industry from that collective,' noting that Stout sits in a very unique place in the 10-county region alongside two other Universities of Wisconsin, UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls, and two technical schools, Chippewa Valley Technical College and Northwoods Technical College. Hudson said there are 'lots of different ways to engage and we're always looking for new ways to do that and give back.' 'We have a great, deep and strong relationship with the university,' DeMuth said. 'They do a really great job participating in our programs and events. They also help us enhance our programming here at the chamber because they are such a large footprint in the community, so they really lend their expertise to us in a variety of ways as well.'
