Town changes name to Dunkin' for one day. 'That's the dream.'

A Massachusetts town is literally running on Dunkin' after it changed its name to the coffee chain's moniker — for one day. A town board in Stow, Massachusetts, on July 8 unanimously passed a motion to rename the town to Dunkin' on Thursday, July 24. The name change is merely ceremonious to recognize the grand opening of the town's new Dunkin' location, officials said. Stow, which is about 25 miles northwest of Boston, is shedding the notorious title it's been known by for the last three years — a Dunkin' desert. Why is Stow changing its name to Dunkin' for the day? Stow went viral in 2022 when WBZ NewsRadio, a local radio station in Boston, reported on the town's status as a so-called "Dunkin' desert." That year, the town's only two Dunkin's closed, leaving it without access to the chain, which is widely considered a staple in Massachusetts. Megan Pesce, who owns several Dunkin' stores in the Greater Boston area, told the Stow board at a July 8 meeting that she and her husband decided to open the new location in the town after the others closed. "As soon as we heard that the two stores in Stow were consecutively sort of closed, we said, 'We need to fix that,'" she said. Grace Kirkman, an associate field marketing manager for Dunkin, told the board at the meeting that the name change would help generate publicity around the new location. "It's really just giving us a great story to be able to go out and share with the world," Kirkman said. "You will become the first ever Dunkin, Massachusetts, which I think for every Massachusetts resident, that's the dream." When is Stow changing its name to Dunkin? The town of Stow will be known as Dunkin' for one day, on July 24, which is the grand opening date for the new store. The name change is far from the only way Dunkin' is celebrating — they will also be giving away 100 days of free coffee for the first 100 Dunkin' Rewards members in line, according to a release. The company also said it will be making a $5,000 donation to the Stow Food Pantry on behalf of the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation. Melina Khan is a national trending reporter for USA TODAY. Family pushing for change after woman killed in Taco Bell drive-thru shooting

STOW, Ohio (WJW) – The family of a young woman who was murdered while in the drive-thru line at the Taco Bell on Graham Road in Stow is fighting to make all drive-thru lanes safer. 'My daughter would still be alive, I truly believe that,' said Nick Keleman, father of Megan Keleman. The 25-year-old was with her dog at the fast food restaurant on August 14, 2024, when a disturbed man pulled up behind her. Police say 53-year-old Jason Williams, who had struggled with mental health issues, began blowing his horn and ramming his vehicle into Megan's, although they don't know why. 'Whole world shattered': Local mom speaks after son killed in OVI crash; former Buckeye charged With no escape, Keleman asked Taco Bell employees to call the police, while she was also on the phone with her father. 'I deal with this every day,' said Nick with tears in his eyes. 'I heard the fear in her voice. I couldn't get to her quick enough., I couldn't protect her.' Before Nick or the police arrived, Williams fatally shot Megan and then himself. Police Chief Jeffrey Film said at the time, 'we have no information to indicate that the two subjects knew one another.' Megan's family strongly believes she would still be alive if that drive-thru had a second open/exit lane. 'You have a building on the left and an embankment on right. There's no way to get out,' he said. Tuesday night, the Keleman family — including Megan's mother Kelly and her brother Matthew — met with Stow's planning commission in support of 'Megan's Way Out,' a zoning code proposal that would require drive-thrus to have a 10-foot bypass lane. It's basically a second open lane that could be used for any number of emergencies. About 40 people, mostly supporters, also attended the meeting where the bypass lanes were described as, 'necessary and important to provide for emergency and safety access in the event of medical emergencies and mechanical issues as well as improving traffic flow and congestion management on the property.' It would apply to all new restaurants and businesses with drive-thru lanes and/or those undergoing restoration. The planning commission unanimously passed 'Megan's Way Out.' The next step will be full hearings in July, then public comment and a final vote scheduled for September. Swimmer's body recovered from lake at Portage Lakes State Park: ODNR The family hopes to start with Stow and then have 'Megan's Way Out' adopted across the state. They're getting help from a state senator. 'It's something we want to implement statewide,' said Ohio State Senator Casey Weinstein, (D) Hudson. The family calls it common sense and said they'll be there every step of the way. 'We just want to honor Megan and make her proud and make change,' said Kelly Keleman. The family also started a nonprofit called Megan's Rainbow of Hope to provide scholarships and 'spread happiness & kindness like confetti,' just like Megan who lived to help others. FOX 8 reached out to Taco Bell for comment on the proposed changes but have not yet received a response. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Crews working to fix major water main break on Hudson Drive in Stow

Crews are working Saturday afternoon to fix a major water main break on Hudson Drive in Stow. City crews are working to quickly fix the issue, according to a news release from the city. Water service is temporarily shut off to homes in the Hudson Drive and Chestnut Drive area while repairs continue. Water pressure was temporarily low in other portions of the city but has returned to normal, according to the city. 'We understand how disruptive water service interruptions can be and appreciate the community's patience as our team works to resolve the issue,' Stow Mayor John Pribonic said in a prepared statement. The city will post updates on its website, and on social media, the release said. Line-jumping dispute leads to 3 Stow students being punched at Cedar Point, parent says

A parent is asking Stow-Monroe Falls school officials to look into possible policy changes after her daughter was punched during a recent class trip to Cedar Point. The parent, whose name is not being used because her daughter is a minor, told the school board May 19 that her child was on a Kimpton Middle School class trip to the Sandusky amusement park and waiting in line for a ride when the incident occurred. More: Prank calls flood Ypsilanti mom after her phone number appears on Cedar Point wall The parent said her daughter was one of three girls who were struck by another student from Shaker Heights Middle School on May 17. The incident, the parent said, happened after a group of students from Shaker Heights cut in line earlier in the day and were confronted by her daughter and the two other Stow students. The Shaker Heights students, the mother said, told the girls they were catching up with other classmates already in line. A second encounter happened later when the two groups were in line for another ride at the park. The mother said a Shaker student had told the girls they could cut in front of them on another ride after the earlier incident. "(A) Shaker boy clocked three of our girls in the back of the head, causing them all to have concussions," the mother told the board. She also said her daughter is being checked for more serious injuries. "(My daughter) is scared and in pain, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally," the parent told the board. "We do not want this falling on deaf ears." Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver said the incident involving the students is being investigated. "The injuries reported to us were minor, if any at all," the chief said. The police report of the incident was not readily available since it involves minors and identifiable information has to be redacted. Cedar Point's Code of Conduct prohibits guests from saving spots in line or cutting in front of other guests or leaving a line for any reason. Violators may be asked to leave the park. The parent wants Stow school officials to take a fresh look at its policies for class trips — like Cedar Point — where the number of students traveling far outnumber the chaperones and students are not directly supervised at all times. "I am deeply concerned about the lack of adequate supervision that was provided to these 13 and 14-year-old students," she said. "From what I understand this situation could have absolutely been prevented. "This has absolutely been a devastating development to our family and one that will have ongoing medical and emotional implications." Requests for comment were left May 21 with Stow and Shaker Heights school officials. This story may be updated.
