Davina McCall says her mother was an eccentric, unpredictable figure, and when she was growing up, she yearned for a mum who was more like a famous Hollywood actress As she prepares to launch new BBC dating show, Stranded on Honeymoon Island, Davina McCall has revealed that when she was growing up, she had an unlikely TV heroine. Davina has previously said that she found her mother, Florence, a difficult person to grow up with, saying: 'She was an exotic, mad risk-taker, exciting to be around, chaotic, but I just wanted Angela Lansbury.' The Masked Singer judge was devoted to Angela Lansbury 's cosy mystery series Murder She Wrote, reports BritBrief: "She was the epitome of grace, intelligence, and strength," Davina said. "Watching her as Jessica Fletcher showed me that women could be both brilliant and relatable." Davina's own mum may have been brilliant in her own way, but she was hard for a teenage girl to relate to: 'The woman was a flasher. She used to wear coats and flash people in the street. She used to do citizens arrests. It was madness.' Speaking to the Daily Mail, Davina recalled one bizarre occasion when her mum drove across a cricket pitch in the middle of a match. By contrast to her mother's wild antics, Davina saw Angela Lansbury as a steady and reliable presence. She told Woman & Home Magazine: 'My birth mum was an alcoholic and we had a difficult relationship, I never lived with her. 'You'd think she was amazing because she's mad and really fun and kind of outrageous looking," Davina added. "But she wasn't brilliant at mothering. I always kind of wanted a cardigan-wearing Angela Lansbury to give me some food and just sit down and ask me out or to just be proud of me, I guess. But she just wasn't that person.' "I can now, in hindsight, appreciate that she was a pretty f*****g exciting person," she previously told The Observer magazine. "She just wasn't a brilliant mother.' Davina fell out with Florence more than once. They reconciled just before Davina married second husband Matthew Robertson in June 2000. But after her French-born mum went to newspapers with a story that her daughter had been attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings and was on the brink relapsing into addiction, Davina never spoke to her again. However, after Florence's death in 2008, Davina was describing her mum to new boyfriend, Michael Douglas: 'I said to Michael, 'You would have loved her,' and he said, 'I've met her.' "He went, 'She's in here,' and he put his hand on my heart. I thought 'F***. It was like I'd been denying my mum's existence in me for all those years'. "He said, 'All the bits that I like about you, your naughty bits, your party bits, I feel like that's your mum'."

Jackie 'O' Henderson has left Australia for an overseas getaway after her Channel Seven reality TV show Stranded on Honeymoon Island flopped spectacularly. The radio star popped up in Fiji on Thursday, where Instagram footage showed the 50-year-old enjoying the seaside escape on a catamaran. Jackie O could seen on the the boat as crystal-clear waters and palm trees swayed around her to the tune of Empty by Ray LaMontagne. She later relaxed poolside at the Kokomo Private Island Resort, with a picturesque make-up-free snap showing the star in a stunning one-piece. It's understood a five-night stay at the luxury Kokomo Private Island Resort, including all meals and airport transfers, starts from a hefty $16,335 per person. Jackie O's South Pacific island getaway comes after she spent time with family and friends at a waterside home in NSW's Scotland Island recently. Her escape from work coincides with Seven spending a whopping $15 million on Stranded on Honeymoon Island, which Jackie narrates. The show follows a fresh batch of singles matched by relationship experts and dropped off on a remote island in their wedding attire. It combines of the traditional drama elements of Channel Nine's Married At First Sight with the wild challenges seen on Survivor Australia. Jackie's narration was expected to "bring an added layer of warmth and humour, making the series even more irresistible," according to a Channel Seven spokesperson. However, despite the mammoth investment and radio talent, the reality dating show reportedly lost more than 160,000 viewers after its premiere. It clocked 539,000 viewers on June 27, only for that figure to take a huge nosedive the following evening, recording 376,000 viewers. The Seven Network then pushed the embattled series back to a later time before removing it from its Monday roster entirely. The network now airs Stranded on Honeymoon Island twice a week, back-to-back during a "midweek graveyard slot", according to a TV insider who told Daily Mail Australia Seven entirely "missed the mark." 'They invested so much into making this show a hit,' the insider said. 'The content was raw and authentic, especially during those camp cove MAFS dinner party-style segments—but somehow they missed the mark.' An ex-crew member also told the publication the show "had potential" but needed "tighter editing, stronger storytelling, and a network that actually believed in it," adding investing a lot of money doesn't guarantee a TV hit. Stranded on Honeymoon Island was originally scheduled to premiere in mid-2024, with its year-long delay reportedly frustrating some of the cast, who were contractually required to refrain from posting on social media. One male cast member even proposed to his real-life girlfriend while waiting for the show to air. The show first premiered in Belgium, where it became a ratings success, and has since been adapted in several countries, including Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the UK, and now Australia.

Following an explosive Couples Cove, Jess is feeling pretty rough. Sam believes he was stabbed in the back by his partner after she 'didn't step up when Emanuel said I was cutting her off'. He described Jess as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' and claims his wedding ring fell off when Jess spotted his bare finger. Jess said that if they both don't figure out a way to be on the same page they she doesn't know how they will move forward. On Tom and Emily's island, Tom has just admitted to producers that he gets a sister vibe from his wife. 'I don't think I can see love develop,' he said. Uh, oh. Tom will have to hold that thought for a moment as a bottle washes up, bringing the message of a double date for all couples. After watching suntanned singles navigate romance on Seven's Stranded on Honeymoon Island, Perth's Katie Johnson will be charting her own beachside getaway as winner of the new reality series' luxury escape competition. Ms Johnson — who works in financial planning — has claimed a five-night, all-inclusive stay for two at the Berkeley River Lodge in remote WA, worth more than $20,000. Nestled upon the pristine Kimberley coastline, the tranquil accommodation is accessible only by air or water, with the 40-year-old planning to bring a dear family member along for the ride. Stranded on Honeymoon Island is a romantic social experiment where couples meet for the first time — and are immediately stranded together on a remote tropical island.
