Strictly winner Chris McCausland addresses 'taking the p**s' out of rarely-seen wife
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Strictly Come Dancing champion Chris McCausland insisted he doesn't get his stand-up material about his marriage approved by his wife Patricia before hitting the stage. The comedian often jokes about his personal experiences on stage, including living with blindness and his long-term marriage to his Brazilian wife Patricia. During a show last year, he joked: "My wife, she is not of these parts, she's from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. I'm a very guy, she's a good looking girl, so she tells me," which prompted the audience to laugh. He added: "I don't want to argue with her because it upsets her, and deep down inside, I know she likes being upset. I just don't want to give her that little piece of joy." Probed about joking about his wife during his shows in an interview with The Sunday Times, journalist Laura Pullman claimed he was "shocked" by the question. "I know where the lines are," he replied. "Often, in taking the p**s out of your wife, you're actually taking the p**s out yourself. The joke is that you're the idiot." Chris and Patricia, who have a daughter together, have been married since 2012. They first met in 2005 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he was performing and she was working. Chris later popped the question to Patricia at a Pearl Jam concert in Hyde Park. Though he rarely shares details about his family life, the Strictly 2025 winner has previously opened up his concerns with fatherhood due to his blindness. Struck by retinitis pigmentosa at the young age of 22, a hereditary condition shared with both his mother and grandmother, Chris has faced significant challenges. Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of uncommon diseases causing the retina cells to deteriorate slowly over time, leading to a gradual loss of vision. In a heartfelt conversation with Gyles Brandreth, Chris expressed: "I was in such a dilemma about it because I knew I would regret not having kids, but the thought of having kids terrified me. "The idea of being a parent and all of the things I was going to be unable to do properly. My dad, all the things he used to do with me as a kid, taking me to different places, and the time he put in helping me build things. "You go, 'How am I going to be able to do those things - I'm not going to be a proper dad, I'm going to be a half dad'. That kind of really caused me a lot of torment in my head." The Chase Celebrity Special airs tonight at 6.30pm on ITV and ITVX.

A Place in the Sun star confirms they're 'in talks' for Strictly Come Dancing The presenter has recently had a big lifestyle change after a health scare and is hoping to take on a new challenge on the dance floor While the professionals have been confirmed for Strictly 2025, the celebrity contestants haven't been announced (Image: PA ) A former This Morning favourite is currently in discussions to foxtrot onto the dance floor for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing. TV personality, Craig Rowe is eager to display his newfound fitness, after a health scare led him to overhaul his lifestyle. Having been presented with a stark health warning regarding his weight and its potential to increase his risk of Type 2 Diabetes, the A Place In The Sun host took charge by reducing his intake of sweet treats, sugar, and alcohol whilst making exercise and healthier food choices part of his daily routine. Recalling the professional advice he faced two years ago, Craig said: "I know firsthand sadly how diabetes can affect you as my late grandad had suffered from diabetes, as had his brothers." He highlighted the disparities linked to diabetes risks by stating: "I've now learnt that diabetes is two to four times more likely to affect Black or Asian people as it does white people." Looking to lower his risk, Craig made some big lifestyle changes. Craig shared the positive outcome: "Four months on after first going to the doctors, I went back to get my blood levels checked again and they had gone right down to 30, which is the normal range, albeit at the high end. I was so pleased." Speaking to The Sun, he dropped some major hints about his possible television venture: "There's definitely been a little bit of a rumble that I felt from some of them. "We've spoken to Strictly and nothing's happened yet, but talks are very much happening. Obviously, Strictly is the one that is gold standard." Having a varied background in television, Craig, whose heritage is Welsh and Jamaican, has graced the screens of QVC, Sky Travel and CBBC, along with having a production stint behind the scenes at the BBC. Although he relocated from his beloved Bristol to London in his twenties, accompanied by his younger sister, the city where he grew up still retains an irreplaceable spot in his heart. In a chat with Bristol Live last year, he shared: "Even though I left Bristol a long time ago, it's still very much part of my life." Before he snagged the coveted role on A Place In The Sun, Craig openly expressed his passion for this opportunity with Channel 4. He excitedly professed, "I know it's a cliche to say but A Place in the Sun is a dream job because I've always liked travelling, I've had an interest in property since my mid-20s and obviously I've worked in TV, so it was like the three things coming together."
