Taking to their Instagram, Nicola Payne and Ruth Gibbins dropped a heartfelt and emotional message, revealing that they are proud of their late brother. Liam, who passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31, was quite close to his sisters, as revealed by various sources. Hence, watching their brother mentor the new singers and help them build a band in the new reality show is definitely an emotional moment for them. She stated, "Over the years I've shared many achievements and momentous occasions as a proud sister, and I couldn't be prouder of this show, and I know you are so proud too." The late musician's sister further added, "Watching this over the past few months has given me/us a way to still feel close to you and see you at your best, and I'm so glad the world gets to see it all now too." Nicola continued to add, "You truly are a shining star. I miss you more than words can say. I love you more than that." Previously, Payne's other sister, Ruth, too, expressed excitement over finally being able to watch what the singer had been working on. She mentioned, "I'm heartbroken he never got to see how great he is in this show." Gibbins added, "He knew he had done a good job; we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow!" What is Building the Band about? Building the Band is a singing reality show where 50 newcomers will participate in building a band with other contestants, without seeing them, but only by liking their voice. Liam Payne will be the guest mentor, alongside Kelly Rowland and Nicole Scherzinger. The show will be hosted by Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean. According to the plotline of the reality series, 'Building the Band brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry.' It further reads, 'The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual 'booths' without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry, and merit.' Building the Band will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 9.

Liam Payne's two sisters have broken their silence before the release of their brother's final project, filmed just weeks before his untimely passing. Netflix has released the trailer for their new singing competition Building the Band, which Payne had signed on to judge just two months before his death at age 31. The streaming giant had shared a statement about the show on Tuesday, saying Payne's family had reviewed it and had been 'supportive of his inclusion in it'. Payne's older sister Ruth Gibbins took to Instagram on Wednesday to publicly share her thoughts with her followers on the Netflix production. 'I didn't know whether to share this, but it felt weird when I've raved about Liam's work and achievements for the last 15 years,' she wrote, sharing the trailer on her Instagram account. 'I'm heartbroken he never got to see how great he is in this show. 'He knew he had done a good job; we all told him this when we were at filming but watching it back … WOW! 'You're a star Liam, you always were and always will be. 'There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride always – miss you more every day.' A post-mortem examination report said Payne died of multiple traumas and "internal and external haemorrhage" after falling from a balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires. Prior to his death he had filmed for the new competition series which has been described as a "music experiment" as 50 singers must form a band without seeing or meeting one another. Listening to each performance through individual booths, only six bands will make it out where they will then meet their fellow bandmates and faced with the obstacle of managing personalities, choreographies and style ahead of the live performances. In the trailer, he is seen giving feedback to the contestants and says: "I need to feel that connection between you guys." They became one of the biggest pop groups in the world, with five albums and four world tours, until they went on indefinite hiatus in 2016. Payne went on to launch his solo career and released his debut solo album LP1 in December 2019. The album included the songs Polaroid with Lennon Stella and Jonas Blue, Strip That Down featuring Quavo, as well as the track For You with Rita Ora.
