Iowa women's basketball star Hannah Stuelke praises program's transfer additions

As Iowa women's basketball held an open summer practice in Iowa City on Tuesday as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2025-26 season, senior forward Hannah Stuelke shared high praise for the Hawkeyes' two transfer additions, Chazadi Wright and Emely Rodriguez. Stuelke, who recently rejoined the program's summer scrimmages after capturing the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup with Team USA, discussed her impressions on the two new acquisitions and how they can help the team in the upcoming season. 'Chit-Chat (Wright) is going to be a great point guard for us, whether she starts or not. She's going to have an impact," Stuelke said. "And Emely (Rodriguez), she's super crafty, and I love her game. She's going to be fun to watch.' Both transfers will have three years of eligibility remaining after spending their freshman seasons elsewhere before joining the Hawkeyes. Sophomore guard Chazadi "Chit-Chat" Wright joined Iowa on April 23, after spending her freshman year at Georgia Tech. During her lone season with the Yellow Jackets, Wright appeared in all 33 games and started 12, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 37.1% from the field, 32.3% from 3-point range and 88.6% from the free-throw line Rodriguez joined the Hawkeyes through the transfer portal on May 19 after spending her first year at Central Florida. With the Knights, Rodriguez earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors after averaging 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 40.9% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range, and 75.3% from the free-throw line in 25 games played. Rodriguez immediately adds to the Hawkeyes' depth on the wing. While Iowa continues its preparations for the upcoming season, fan anticipation continues to rise as the Hawkeyes aim to regain their swagger among women's college basketball's elite. Hannah Stuelke, Team USA capture 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup title

In a rematch of the 2024 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Final, Team USA got its revenge against Brazil from Santiago, Chile, on Sunday night as Hannah Stuelke and the Americans captured the tournament title for the fifth time with a hard-fought 92-84 victory. Stuelke, who primarily factored in off the bench in small, segmented moments off the bench, played a significant role in the third and fourth quarters as Oklahoma center Raegan Beers' foul trouble became problematic for the Americans. Advertisement In her tournament-high 22:38 minutes of action, Stuelke finished with seven points on 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. While her offensive numbers may not have been as exciting, the senior Hawkeyes forward was pivotal on the defensive side of the ball as she registered seven rebounds, two steals, and one block, which helped propel the Americans to victory. Even though Iowa head coach Jan Jensen could not attend the tournament in Chile, she made sure to emphatically congratulate her star forward on social media as Stuelke now becomes the first Iowa women's basketball player to win a gold medal in an international tournament. After returning home from Chile with the gold-medal-winning Team USA contingency, Stuelke will join the rest of her Iowa teammates as the Hawkeyes prepare for their upcoming 2025-26 season in early November. Hannah Stuelke, Team USA defeat Canada

In her first year as part of the Team USA roster, Iowa women's basketball star forward Hannah Stuelke and the United States (6-0) secured a spot in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Final with a hard-fought 65-52 win over Team Canada in the tournament semifinal on Saturday evening from Santiago, Chile. Despite having her best game of the tournament in the Americans' quarterfinal win over the Dominican Republic, Stuelke scored just two points on 1-for-2 shooting from the floor. The senior Hawkeye forward also registered five rebounds, one steal, and one block in 18:15 of playing time off the bench. Stuelke finished with a plus-15 point differential and a plus-8 point efficiency when on the court for the U.S. against the Canadians on Saturday. While she did not factor much into Team USA's offense, Stuelke's lone basket came with 6:14 left in the third quarter off a nifty pass from Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo into the post for a layup to tie the game at 37 apiece. Hidalgo led Team USA in scoring on the night by posting 19 points on 8-for-18 shooting. The U.S. advances to the tournament final on Sunday (July 6), where it will face either Brazil (4-0) or Argentina (2-2). The finals matchup is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. CT and can be streamed on Courtside 1891 through MAX.
