'The Office' actor Rainn Wilson opens up about the chaos after Steve Carell left; claims his exit was natural

' The Office ' has been a comfort series for years, where the jokes have been repeated, pranks have been inspired, and the couples have been loved by the audience. Rainn Wilson , aka Dwight Schrute , recently opined about how the series was impacted after the fan favourite character, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell ), left the show. "It was a little bit chaotic trying to figure out the tone..." In a conversation with the Good Guys podcast with the hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer, Wilson stated that after Carell bid adieu to the show in 2011, it was chaotic trying to figure out the tone of the show. 'When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who's the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the greatest comic actors in American history at the centre of our show. That was also a struggle,' the 59-year-old actor recalled. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The all new SP125 that comes with advance technology & features Honda Learn More Undo Steve Carell's exit was natural... While Carell's goodbye was a cultural shock to the audience, and the transition had its due to the creators, Wilson remarked that it was natural that the ' Crazy, Stupid, Love ' actor was going to leave as he made his way to stardom, and received Hollywood 's project proposals. 'He was doing like Burt Wonderstone and these big comedies. I'm forgetting all the names of them at the time, but Get Smart, you know? (Movies) that were in 2,000 theatres at the multiplex. So, of course, he's going to leave The Office when he can,' Rainn added. After Steve Carell exited the show, he delivered many commercially and critically acclaimed films at the box office, including 'Beautiful Boy,' 'Despicable Me,' 'Hope Springs,' 'The Way Way Back,' and many more. While he received 6 Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy Series , Steve never got to hold it and take it home; however, it was enough to carve a name on the Hollywood wall.

New York-style pizza gets a home in Chennai at ‘Za Pizza Cafe

In Crazy, Stupid, Love, Ryan Gosling's character Jacob, the effortlessly charming womaniser, eats a slice of New York pizza dressed in a blazer and formal pants. He leans on a railing, and the slice is folded just the way it is meant to be. It is casual, confident, unforgettable. This is not the only time a New York slice made it to the big screen. From Spiderman to Miss Congeniality, Hollywood has long cemented its cult status. And now, Chennai has another spot attempting to bring a slice of the Big Apple home. 'Za Pizza Cafe, located on the now-tattered Khader Nawaz Khan (KNK) Road, channels a classic American diner with dark blue and red accents and a geometric black-and-white tiled floor. One wall is filled with framed covers of The NewYorker. There is an open kitchen towards one end, where a 400-kilo pizza oven quietly churns out perfectly crisp pizzas once every six to eight minutes. 'In Chennai, a lot of people were doing Neapolitan-style pizza, so we decided to do something completely different, and that's how we decided on New York pizza,' says Ritvik Varun, one of the founders of 'Za. So what makes a New York pizza? By definition, a New York pizza has a thin, crisp crust, that can hold its shape. It is topped with a simple uncooked tomato sauce, and low-moisture mozzarella cheese that melts without making the crust soggy. It is popularly sold by the slice, which is folded and eaten on the go. It is everything a Neapolitan pizza is not. 'In New York, they sell it by the slice. Here, we are still educating customers that reheated slices are not old food,' adds Ritvik. Apart from pizza, the menu has a wide selection of small plates and salads. We try the Kentucky chicken tenders served with three house-made dips — spicy ranch, classic ranch, and hot honey. They are crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, and pair perfectly with all three dips. For non-meat eaters, a similar small plate option is the crispy oyster mushroom wings. The garlic parmesan pillows, brushed with garlic butter, come with a cheese dip but go great with the pesto dip that you can order separately. There are seven dips on the menu — ranch, spicy ranch, hot honey, chilli garlic oil, pesto, buffalo, and cheese — and each one can be ordered to go with different small plates, or even the pizzas. 'We call them crust dippers because a lot of people do not like eating the crusts of the pizzas, and these might help,' says Varun Sheth, the co-founder. An Instagrammable small plate is the mozzarella triangle with a cheese pull that can stretch for days. Though under-seasoned, it goes best with the tangy, spicy buffalo sauce, rather than the chunky marinara sauce it is served with. From the pasta section of the menu, we try the spicy vodka macaroni with ricotta. Despite the name, the sauce contains no vodka, using white wine vinegar instead to mimic the flavour. The pasta is slightly overcooked and not al dente. Currently being sold as full 12-inch pies, the pizza section has a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. 'Usually New York pizzas are much larger — 16 or even 18 inches — but we have only started with 12 for now,' says Varun. 'Our aim is to evolve constantly.' We try the Umami Mami, which is topped with caramelised onions, mushrooms, truffle oil, confit garlic and parmesan, and stands up to its name. The Chicken Pizzaiola, topped with marinara sauce, grilled chicken, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and finished with garlic aioli, leans towards tangy and could benefit from a drizzle of hot honey. One stand-out feature of 'Za is how seriously they take even home delivery. Each delivery includes a card with reheating instructions for a pan, a microwave, and an oven. 'After all, pizza tastes best when reheated,' says Ritvik. 'Za Pizza Cafe is located at 9, Oyster Building, 1st Floor, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Chennai. A meal for two costs ₹1,000.

Netflix is losing 41 movies this month — here's the 5 you need to stream now

The Netflix movie library is constantly rotating. While the streaming service adds plenty of new flicks each month, it also removes some old favorites to make room. On June 30, 2025, Netflix will remove more than 40 movies from its platform. These cover pretty much all genres, from family-friendly adventures like 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water' to jump-scare-landed horror like 'The Nun.' The platform is also removing the complete 'Twilight' saga, so if you want to relive your angst-ridden teen years, you've got only a few days left. While some of the soon-to-be-removed movies probably won't be missed by many subscribers, there's a healthy handful that I'm sad to see go. But don't worry — you've still got a little time to watch because the month isn't over yet. These are the five Netflix movies you should stream right now before they head to the great streaming service in the sky. 'Crazy, Stupid, Love.' is unquestionably one of the most beloved rom-coms of the 21st century. It's not hard to see why, either. Any movie that brings together Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore, flaked by John Carroll Lynch, Marisa Tomei and Kevin Bacon, is going to be a hotbed of lovable charm and charisma. Plus, that third-act scene (you know the one) seems to go viral literally every single week, for good reason. This easy-watching comedy opens with Cal Weaver (Carell) discovering his wife (Moore) is having an affair. Thrust back into single life and very out of practice when it comes to dating, a younger hotshot womanizer (Gosling) takes Cal under his wing. But his bar-hopping commitaphobe starts to change his ways when he begins to fall for one of his hook-ups named Hannah (Stone). Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Genuinely funny, surprisingly romantic and effortlessly warm, it's an almost perfect rom-com. Watch on Netflix until June 30, 2025 One of 2024's very best movies is making its exit from Netflix this month. 'Dune Part Two' is another sci-fi masterpiece from Denis Villeneuve, and it gives even 'The Lord of the Rings' a run for its money when it comes to epic scale. This sprawling blockbuster combines intergalactic politicking with deeply compelling characters and a hair-raising sense of spectacle. I thought Villeneuve's first 'Dune' movie was a remarkable achievement, but 'Part Two' raises the bar even further. And I've not even touched upon the ludicrously stacked cast, incorporating more than a dozen recognizable A-list names from Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya to Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem. In the wake of the fall of House Atreides (as depicted in 2021's 'Dune'), Paul (Chalamet) has united with the Fremen clan, as he seeks to liberate the desert planet of Arrakis from the treacherous forces that betrayed his family. Struggling with his supposed destiny to become a great leader who will determine the fate of the universe, he also begins to fall in love with a Fremen rebel, Chani (Zendaya). Gripping from the drop, 'Dune: Part Two' is incredible. Watch on Netflix until June 30, 2025 With the franchise reboot on the horizon (it's set to arrive in theatres this summer), now is a great time to rewatch, or get familiar with, the '90s original. 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is an archetypal slasher, the type of horror movie that 'Scream' was lampooning just a year prior, and was thoroughly mocked in the first 'Scary Movie.' Yet while it sticks to all the genre conventions, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' remains an enjoyably silly popcorn-muncher, and there's enough bloody fun to keep you hooked throughout. The movie centers on a group of friends who accidentally hit a pedestrian following a beach trip to celebrate July 4. They swear a pact to hide the body and never speak of the incident again. However, a year later, one of the group, Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), receives a letter telling her that somebody knows what they did, and the mystery sender wants revenge. Also starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., it's a pretty cheesy, yet enjoyable watch. Watch on Netflix until June 30, 2025 Netflix is removing the entire original 'Ocean's' trilogy this month, so now is the perfect time for a movie marathon full of gripping heists and larger-than-life characters. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (whose new movie 'Black Bag' is one of the year's best to date), and a remake of the 1960s Rat Pack crowd-pleaser of the same name, it stars a legendary crew of 2000s top-tier talent including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Jula Roberts and Casey Affleck. Clooney plays the leader of the group, Danny Ocean, a career criminal who uses his charms to rob those he believes deserve their comeuppance. Alongside partner in crime Rusty (Pitt), he brings together a sophisticated group of thieves to pull off a seriously audacious heist. The plan is to rob three of Las Vegas' biggest casinos in one swoop, and the stakes are extra personal because the owner of these gambling establishments happens to be dating Danny's ex-wife, Tess (Roberts). Watch on Netflix until June 30, 2025 'The Equalizer 3' has enjoyed a fruitful run on Netflix, holding the No. 1 spot for several weeks when it first arrived on the streaming service in early 2024. Since then, it's always been in and around the top 10, but all good things must come to an end, and Netflix will soon lose one of Denzel Washington's best action efforts to date. For anybody who (foolishly) doubts it, 'The Equalizer 3' again confirms Washington's status as the coolest man in Hollywood. The second sequel to the 2014 original sees Washington return as Robert McCall, a former Marine and government assassin who now protects the vulnerable in society who are unable to defend themselves. Having moved to southern Italy to escape his past actions, McCall's sun-soaked retirement is short-lived when he's forced back into the field to save his new friends from a local mafia boss, who might be McCall's most ruthless foe yet. Watch on Netflix until June 30, 2025

This underrated Steve Carell movie is one of my favorite coming-of-age comedies — and it's now on Prime Video

Steve Carell is known for big-budget comedies like "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," "Crazy, Stupid, Love." and the "Anchorman" franchise, but some of the actor's best work is in smaller-scale fare like "Little Miss Sunshine," "Dan in Real Life" and "The Way, Way Back". In particular, that latter title — which sees an against-type performance from Carell as a nightmare stepfather — is a surefire summertime charmer, complete with a fantastic ensemble full of some of Hollywood's funniest people. And, best of all, it's currently available to stream on Prime Video. Amazon's streaming service is stocked with great titles across all genres, including crowd-pleasing comedies, and "The Way, Way Back" is certainly no exception. The coming-of-age story serves up humor and heart in equal turns, and will instantly transport you back to those long, sunny days of youthful, no-school summer. Here's why you should add the sweet teen comedy to your Prime Video watch list. Written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash in their directorial debuts, 2013's "The Way, Way Back" centers on Duncan (Liam James), an introverted 14-year-old on summer vacation in a New England beach town with his mother Pam (Toni Collete), her overbearing boyfriend Trent (Steve Carell) and Trent's daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Trent is quite hard on Duncan — the older man tells the teen to rate himself on a scale of one to ten and harshly dubs him a three — and, even worse, he's caught by the boy cheating on Pam with a friend's wife (Amanda Peet). To escape the messiness of it all, Duncan finds solace at the rundown local water park, Water Wizz, where he encounters a merry band of colorful employees (played by Maya Rudolph, Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, among others), all led by wisecracking but compassionate park manager Owen (Sam Rockwell). Though Duncan's family is none the wiser about where he's spending his summer days, the teen is hired by Owen for odd jobs around the park and soon the wallflower opens up, even catching the attention of Susanna (AnnaSophia Robb), the pretty daughter of his neighbor Betty (a scene-stealing Allison Janney). There's a sweet nostalgia that permeates "The Way, Way Back" — fittingly, the title refers to sitting in the third row of seats in old-school station wagons — and a youthful relatability to Duncan's story. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. And along with a believably villainous turn from usual good-guy Steve Carell, the unexpected buddy duo of Sam Rockwell and Liam James is an especially delightful attribute. Both actors received Critics' Choice nominations for their performances, as did the comedy film as a whole. Rockwell's warm and witty screen work, in particular, was lauded by critics: David Gritten at The Daily Telegraph wrote: "Rockwell seizes on this role and milks it for all it's worth." And for The Guardian, Catherine Shoard also showed love to Carell and Collette: "There's some terrific performances – particularly from Collette, putting flesh on some quite bare bones, and Carell, a wholly plausible, half-sympathetic overgrown jock with a bullying charm." On Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie has an 83% approval rating, critical consensus reads: "Despite its familiar themes, 'The Way Way Back' makes use of its talented cast, finely tuned script, and an abundance of charm to deliver a funny and satisfying coming-of-age story." Hitchcock heroine Kim Novak to receive Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion award

ROME – Hollywood actress Kim Novak, 92, best known for portraying the double life of Alfred Hitchcock's heroine in Vertigo (1958), has been awarded Venice's lifetime achievement award, the film festival said on June 9. Despite a short-lived career, Novak became 'a living legend, earning her rightful place in history, with the respect and esteem of the film critics and industry alike', the festival added. Novak said she was 'deeply, deeply touched' to receive the award, which will be presented during the festival, which runs from Aug 27 to Sept 6. 'To be recognised for my body of work at this time in my life is a dream come true. I will treasure every moment I spend in Venice. It will fill my heart with joy,' she said in a statement. Novak played the chilling dual role of suicidal blonde Madeleine Elster and brunette shop girl Judy Barton in Vertigo, which was released in 1958. Other memorable roles included a witch in Richard Quine's Bell, Book And Candle (1958); an adulteress in another Quine film, Strangers When We Meet (1960); and a prostitute with a big heart in Kiss Me, Stupid (1964) by Billy Wilder. In 1965, she largely turned her back on Hollywood, refusing to accept the iron-fisted rule of studio executives, and turned to painting instead. The festival's artistic director Alberto Barbera said that Novak had not planned on becoming an actress, but 'inadvertently' became a screen legend. She was 'one of the most beloved icons of an entire era of Hollywood films, from her auspicious debut during the mid-1950s until her premature and voluntary exile from the gilded cage of Los Angeles a short while later', he said. 'Independent and non-conformist, she created her own production company and went on strike to renegotiate a salary that was much lower than that of her male co-stars,' he added. The award 'celebrates a star who was emancipated, a rebel at the heart of Hollywood who illuminated the dreams of movie lovers', Barbera said. The documentary Kim Novak's Vertigo (2025) by Alexandre Philippe, made in collaboration with the actress, will have its world premiere screening during the festival.
