Lucknow: Malihabad Police files chargesheet in 24 hours in rape case of SC minor girl
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 12 (ANI): Lucknow police have filed a chargesheet within 24 hours in a case involving the rape of a seven-year-old girl from a Scheduled Caste (SC) community, officials said on Saturday. Acting swiftly on the complaint lodged by the victim's family, a police team led by the ACP of Malihabad launched an immediate investigation. The medical examination of the minor was conducted without delay to preserve critical forensic evidence. Statements from the family and eyewitnesses were recorded, and key scientific evidence--including swabs, the victim's clothing, and DNA samples--was collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. The Lucknow District Magistrate played an important role in ensuring that the legal process was followed without any hurdle. Following instructions from senior officer Vishakh G. Iyer, a woman doctor completed the medico-legal procedure the same night under the supervision of the Director of Health, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS). Additionally, the girl was also taken by an ambulance to record her statement before a judicial magistrate. The accused, Suchit Yadav, was arrested within 10 hours of the incident after the analysis of CCTV footage, mobile phone location data, and local intelligence inputs. He has been charged under the POCSO Act and other serious sections of the Indian Penal Code. The Lucknow Police Commissioner has recommended that the case be fast-tracked in court. According to police sources, in 2022, a charge sheet was filed within 36 hours in a similar case in the same area, but this time the police completed the process even faster, setting a new record by doing so within 24 hours. In a rare instance of expedited legal action, the Lucknow Police on Friday (July 11, 2025) filed a chargesheet within 24 hours in a case involving the rape of a seven-year-old Dalit girl. The incident took place in the Gauri Gali area of Swanapur village, under the jurisdiction of Malihabad police station, on Wednesday (July 9, 2025) evening. The accused, identified as 20-year-old Suchit Yadav, was arrested within 10 hours of the alleged assault. 'All evidences were collected, accused arrested, forensic and medical formalities were completed. Judicial magistrate recorded statement of victim. The court-related legal duty was performed and Lucknow Police Commissionerate completed the investigation and chargesheeted the above case within 24 hours, first time in U.P. The government will be requested for considering the above case in fast-track court,' Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Malihabad, Vineet Singh told The Hindu. District Magistrate, Lucknow, was closely involved in the investigation, directing the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Health Services to ensure that medico-legal formalities were completed during the night. 'Modern technology, mobile locations, CCTV footage and intelligence systems were used to promptly nab the accused within 10 hours of the crime to expedite the legal process,' ACP Singh added.

Truck driver arrested, chargesheeted for rape of a 7-year-old — all within 24 hrs
Lucknow: A 20-year-old truck driver was on Thursday arrested and chargesheeted for rape of a seven-year-old Dalit girl in Malihabad on Wednesday. The girl, who had come to her maternal grandfather's home a few days back, was lured into a room nearby and sexually assaulted by Suchit Yadav, 20, police said. The minor girl, along with other children, had gone out to take a bath at a nearby tubewell when the accused allegedly managed to trap and rape her. When she did not reach home until late at night, the family members started looking for her. Meanwhile, she regained consciousness and came back home crying. The victim's family gave a written complaint at the police station on Thursday, after which the accused was arrested within 10 hours. "Taking note of the gruesome act, we acted urgently and ensured that the case was registered under Pocso Act and SC/ST Act, the accused was arrested from a hideout in Kedar Gadh, and the medical examination of the victim was carried out to ensure that the chargesheet was filed at the earliest," said a police press note. "Further legal proceedings are underway," said station house officer (SHO) Surendra Singh Bhati, while adding that the cops would appeal for fast-tracking the case and also ensure that conviction is achieved in record time with the strictest punishment.

Youth arrested for raping 7-year-old girl
A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl in Gauri Gali area of Swanapur village within Malihabad police station limits, police said on Thursday. (HT Photo) The 20-year-old accused lured the minor girl, who had gone to a nearby tubewell to take a bath, into accompanying him to a room near a drain in Madhavpur village, where he allegedly raped her on Wednesday evening, they said, adding the accused was arrested after the girl's family filed a complaint at the Malihabad police station on Thursday. The accused was identified as Suchit Yadav, 20, who is a truck driver and a resident of Malihabad, according to a statement issued by the police. The FIR has been registered under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5/6 of the POCSO Act at the Malihabad police station, the statement said. As per reports, the minor girl had visited her maternal grandmother's house in Malihabad a few days back and went to the tubewell on Wednesday evening. After the girl did not return home, her family members tried searching for her, but in vain. However, the girl regained consciousness and came out of the room. She then met her family members and narrated her ordeal. After they filed a complaint on Thursday morning, police arrested the accused from a hideout in Kedar Gadh following a brief manhunt. 'The accused was produced before the local court and further legal proceedings are underway,' SHO Surendra Singh Bhati said.
