death toll from floods in India's Himachal Pradesh state rises to 72
Basant Ahmed The Chief Minister of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, announced that the death toll from the severe floods that swept through several areas of the state has risen to at least 72, while 40 people are still missing. Sukhu added - as reported by India TV in its English version today, Saturday - that the floods caused by heavy rains caused damage to infrastructure, while more than 100 people were injured in rain-related incidents across the state. Himachal to announce potato support price soon: CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday announced that the State Government is committed to bolstering the rural economy by establishing a potato processing plant in Una district at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. He added that a support price for potatoes would soon be declared to enhance farmers' at the state-level Multi-Stakeholder Consultative Conference organised by the Himachal Pradesh Revitalising Rainfed Agriculture Network, Sukhu said the government's focus on promoting green energy and natural noted that minimum support prices for naturally farmed crops have been set and will be increased further. New schemes to strengthen the rural economy through natural farming are planned for the coming year. Highlighting health concerns, Sukhu pointed out that Himachal Pradesh has seen a significant rise in cancer cases, second only to north-eastern states. He suggested that changing food habits might be a key factor and stressed the need to investigate the root noted that 80% of the state's population relies on agriculture, which contributes 14% to Himachal's GDP. He expressed concern over changing weather patterns adversely affecting the sector and proposed solutions like climate-resilient agriculture, promotion of pulses, extensive animal husbandry, use of traditional seeds and emphasis on water security and soil highlighted that crops grown through natural farming and traditional seeds are nutrient-rich and require less water, advocating for their revival and improvement through research to ensure nutritious food and a cleaner environment for future Chief Minister also released a book documenting experiences in natural farming and commended farmers adopting this practice. He detailed the government's efforts to promote sustainable Shri Nek Ram Sharma briefed the Chief Minister on the conference, emphasising the importance of millets, water conservation, forests and land management. MLA Harish Janartha, Padma Shri Hariman, agriculture expert Dr. Sabyasachi Das, senior Agriculture Department officials, stakeholders and representatives from the agricultural university attended the event. Himachal govt will soon declare support price for potato: CM
Last Updated: Shimla, Jun 12 (PTI) The support price for potatoes would be declared soon to strengthen the economy of the farmers, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, while chairing the state-level Multi-Stakeholder Consultative conference here on Thursday. The state government is constantly striving to strengthen the rural economy, and a potato processing plant would be set up in Una district at a cost of about Rs 20 crore, he said in the conference organised by Himachal Pradesh Revitalizing Rainfed Agriculture Network. The state government was promoting green energy and natural farming in a big way. The minimum support price has been fixed for crops produced from natural farming, and it would be further increased in the coming time, a statement quoted the chief minister as saying. Highlighting the importance of natural farming, he said many new schemes would be implemented in the coming year to boost the rural economy. The chief minister said after the northeastern states, the highest increase in cancer cases had been witnessed in Himachal Pradesh, and efforts were on to find out the root cause and change in food habits could also be a reason for the rise in such cases. He said 80 per cent of the state's population depends on agriculture for livelihood. Agriculture is the backbone of Himachal's economy and contributes about 14 per cent to the state's gross domestic product (GDP). He also expressed concern over the changing pattern of weather, which was adversely affecting the agriculture sector. These challenges could be faced effectively by taking steps like climate-tolerant agriculture, promotion of pulses, extensive animal husbandry, more use of traditional seeds, and laying emphasis on water security and soil conservation. The traditional seeds and crops grown through natural farming were rich in nutrition and required less water. 'We need to reuse such traditional crops and these had to be further improved through research to ensure nutritious food and a clean environment for future generations", he asserted. He also released a book based on the experiences of natural farming on this occasion. He praised the farmers engaged in natural farming and also detailed the efforts being made by the state government in promoting this system of agriculture. Himachal CM inaugurates integrated command centre in Dharamshala
Chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday virtually inaugurated an integrated command, control and crime response centre (ICCC) located at the superintendent of police (SP) office in Dharamshala under the Smart City Mission. Under this project, 229 CCTV cameras have been installed at prominent places in the city, out of which seven sites have been installed under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). This system will be helpful in better implementation of traffic management, surveillance, public safety and law and order, officials said. This state-of-the-art centre has been established at a cost of ₹2.72 crore. 'This centre is an important step towards strengthening urban governance and other civic services in the city. This centre will act as a central system for monitoring, coordination and rapid response management, ensuring public service delivery and urban security. It is planned that in the near future, all the cameras installed in Kangra will be monitored at one focal point through this server,' police officials said.

Priority to be given to 'Corona Warriors' in recruitment of nurses: Himachal CM Sukhu
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu interacted with faculty members of IGMC Shimla and Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty, Chamiyana here on Monday evening and discussed in detail the challenges of the future in the health sector. He said that priority will be given to the nurses who worked during the Corona epidemic in the recruitment of nurses, according to an official release. CM Sukhu said, "The state government is trying to fill various vacant posts in the health department along-with the use of modern technology. The posts of doctors are being filled up on priority and priority will be given to the nurses who worked during the Corona epidemic in the recruitment of nurses. He said that along with para-medical staff, technicians are also being recruited. " "We are ensuring doctor-patient and nurse-patient ratio as per international standards so that they can get a better environment for work", added the Chief Minister. The heads of departments of various medical colleges made their presentation and the Chief Minister assured that the state government will provide all possible assistance as per the requirements of each medical college. The Chief Minister said that within a year, machines and equipment older than 20 years in government health institutions will be replaced. The robotic surgery facility will be started in Super Specialty Hospital Chamiyana and Tanda Medical College within two months. Besides, Three Tesla MRI machines are also being installed in all medical colleges in a phased manner, added the release. He said that the previous governments did not pay any special attention to improving health services, due to which patients are facing various problems. The present government has given priority to improvement in the field of education and health and Rs 1350 crore are being spent on medical technology. The state government will provide funds to construct hostels for students studying medicine and parking facility will be strengthened for patients as well as staff. He said that today the premium health institutions of the state have become mere referral health institutions, hence there is a need for comprehensive improvement in them. The state government has spent Rs 100 crore for the improvement of health services in IGMC Shimla and in the coming time, Rs 200 crore more will be provided to improve it. He said that due to restoration of old pension to government employees, many types of financial restrictions have been imposed on Himachal Pradesh, but the state government is still making efforts to improve health services. He said that patients always come to the hospital with the hope of recovery, in such a situation, if doctors talk to them in a good manner, their suffering will be reduced, added the release. Health and Family Welfare Minister Colonel (Dr) DhRam Shandil said that such dialogue programmes are important in improving health services. All medical professionals are doing good work in the health institutions of the state and efforts should continue to make it even better. He said that there is a lot of progress in the field of medical education and the state government is making serious efforts to provide modern machines in Himachal Pradesh so that people can get better health facilities near their homes. Health Secretary M Sudha Devi gave detailed information about the reforms being done in the health sector by the state government. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, MLA Harish Janartha and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
