Fact Check: Don't fall for image of a B-2 bomber allegedly shot down by Iran
Claim: An image from June 2025 authentically depicts a B-2 bomber downed by the Iranian military. Rating: Amid increasing misinformation stemming from the Iran-Israel conflict in June 2025, an image purportedly depicting a U.S. B-2 fighter jet downed by Iran circulated the internet. The original X post (archived) sharing the image received more than 886,000 views, as of this writing, and the claim also spread elsewhere on X (archived) and TikTok (archived). The caption read: "BREAKING: 'Journalist' Sulaiman Ahmed reports: 'Iran has downed a U.S. B-2 bomber.'" (X user @LionsOfZion_ORG) Dozens of users in the comments asserted the image showed signs of being generated by artificial intelligence. Those users are correct: The image is a fake. There are several things wrong with the image, aside from the fact that the image's creator confirmed in a reply to a comment that the image was "sarcastic" (archived). In another comment (archived), X user wrote: "Wow. Sorry, friends. But did I really need to clarify it was fake?" We reached out to the account seeking comment on the image's creation, and will update this story if we receive a response. There are several factors that give away the AI-generated nature of this image. First, the scale is inaccurate. The aircraft appears significantly smaller than an actual B-2 bomber, as seen in the image below of a B-2 jet next to two people. (Wikimedia Commons) Second, there are no shadows underneath the flag or sign behind the soldiers, and the signpost does not touch the ground, as seen below: (X user @LionsOfZion_ORG) Third, the amount of damage and the fact that the bomber's landing gear is extended deviates from what would likely happen in reality. If Iranian forces had downed such an aircraft, the damage would likely appear significantly more severe. Lastly, AI-detection software Hive determined there was a 54.5% chance the image was AI-generated. ( In June 2025, we also reported on a fake image of an Israeli F-35 fighter jet shot down by Iran. Were Foreign Workers Barred From Israeli Bomb Shelters? Viral Videos Stir Online Debate
Last Updated: One of the most widely circulated videos appears to show an Israeli man allegedly preventing Thai and other foreign workers from entering an underground shelter Several purported videos have surfaced on social media claiming that foreign workers in Israel were denied access to bomb shelters amid the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. The conflict, now in its 11th consecutive day, shows no signs of de-escalation, with both sides continuing to launch missiles and drones at each other. In Israel, where most homes are equipped with bunkers due to long-standing civil defence laws, citizens have been regularly taking shelter as sirens sound across cities. Since the 1950s, Israeli law has required all new buildings to include bomb shelters as part of civil defence preparedness. Amid rising tensions, the newly circulated videos allege that some foreign workers are being barred from using these shelters. News18 has not independently verified the videos but has reviewed clips that have been widely shared across platforms. One of the most widely circulated videos appears to show an Israeli man allegedly preventing Thai and other foreign workers from entering an underground shelter. In the footage, the workers stand outside a closed shelter door. One of them asks, 'Why are you preventing us?" The man replies, 'You are Thai, and the shelter is for Jews only." The man adds, 'My conscience does not allow me to sympathise with the Jews. I really can't understand their behaviour." In a separate video, a Ukrainian woman in Tel Aviv claims she was denied entry to a shelter because she is not Jewish. 'They told us, 'We're not obligated to let you in; there's not enough space.' So much for Israeli solidarity," she says in the clip. 'They didn't let me into the shelter because I'm an Arab," he says. Smith ✞ (@HarrisonHSmith) June 19, 2025 Counterclaims Emerge Alongside these videos, some social media users have challenged the allegations. One user on wrote: 'Bassem Youssef and Hamas Quds News mistranslate to claim Jews prevent Thai workers from entering the shelter, when they were really being invited in. The original video (without the Arabic text added) and account shows the inside of the shelter with the workers." 9. However, this counterclaim has not been independently verified. 'The antisemitic blood libels are coming fast and furious. Arabic media and social media are claiming there is a video where an Israeli Jew prevents Thai workers from a bomb shelter because it is for 'Jews only." In fact, he was begging them to come IN to shelter," another user responded. As of now, the Israeli government has not issued an official response regarding the specific incidents shown in the videos. Old explosion video falsely linked to Israeli strikes on Iran
"BREAKING: ANOTHER EXPLOSION AT AN OIL REFINERY IN IRAN," says a June 13, 2025 post sharing the visual on X. Image Screenshot from X taken June 13, 2025 The post comes from Sulaiman Ahmed, a self-described journalist who has repeatedly shared disinformation about the Middle East and the war between Israel and Hamas. Similar posts spread across platforms and in other languages, including Spanish and Persian. The image circulated after the Israeli military hit a range of Iranian nuclear sites, in an of Israel's war with the militant group Hamas in Gaza. Oil prices soared in the aftermath of the airstrikes. But analysts told AFP price gains were capped in part by news that there has been no immediate reduction to crude production or supplies, as the strikes appeared to have avoided Iranian oil facilities. Reverse image searches surfaced the photo in Iranian news reports detailing a November 4, 2020 incident at a petrochemical plant in Ilam, Iran (archived here and here). Rokna News Agency posted the photo to Telegram, saying it showed a "massive explosion" at the plant (archived here). Further reports said the plume of smoke was in fact due to a fire in a waste pond that was quickly extinguished with no casualties (archived here, here and here). AFP has debunked other misinformation about the Middle East, here.

The image circulated after the Israeli military hit a range of Iranian nuclear sites, in an escalation of Israel's war with the militant group Hamas in Gaza. Iran called the attack -- which killed several top military commanders and nuclear scientists -- a "declaration of war." Oil prices soared in the aftermath of the airstrikes. But analysts told AFP price gains were capped in part by news that there has been no immediate reduction to crude production or supplies, as the strikes appeared to have avoided Iranian oil facilities. The image shared by Ahmed and others on social media is also several years outdated. Air Canada Apologizes for Erasing Israel from In-Flight Maps
Air Canada has apologized after learning that at least 40 of its aircraft did not display Israel as a state on their in-flight entertainment systems. Instead of showing Israel, the map on the carrier's Boeing 737 MAX fleet showed 'Palestinian territories.' This issue arose amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and was first noticed by a passenger, who alerted the airline. After an internal investigation, Air Canada told CNN that the issue affected approximately 40 of its planes. In a joint statement with the French aerospace group Thales, which provides the in-flight entertainment systems, both companies issued an apology and explained the situation. A third company, which created the map, remains unidentified. JUST IN: AIR CANADA ERASED ISRAEL FROM ITS MAPS ON FLIGT & INSTEAD LABELED THE AREA 'PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES' 👏🏻 — Sulaiman Ahmed (@ShaykhSulaiman) March 15, 2025 'It was brought to the attention of Air Canada that the interactive map on its Boeing 737 fleet did not consistently portray certain Middle Eastern boundaries, including those of the State of Israel, at all amplification levels,' the airline's statement read. Air Canada, which uses city names on maps as a general policy, added that the 'configuration on this particular system was not compliant with this policy.' The airline emphasized that the situation had been resolved quickly. 'The planes had their map function immediately disabled, and a revised map was already installed by Friday.' The controversy has garnered criticism online, with some passengers questioning the omission of Israel from the map, particularly in light of the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
