Virgin River could be set for bombshell crossover as star of 'similar' drama drops hint
This similar drama is vying for Virgin River's top spot - could a crossover be on the cards soon? Virgin River might potentially merge with another beloved small-town romance series, according to claims from a prominent actress. Drawing inspiration from Robyn Carr's cherished bestselling novels, the Netflix sensation chronicles Mel Monroe (portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner relocating to a rural community after experiencing heartbreak. Upon arrival, she encounters bar proprietor and ex-Marine Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), with instant chemistry developing between them. The captivating romance has recently concluded filming for its seventh series, anticipated to premiere on Netflix towards the end of this year or potentially in early 2026. Meanwhile, American audiences have been engrossed in the newest series of Sullivan's Crossing, which follows comparable themes and draws from another book collection by Carr, reports the Mirror US. Given this link, viewers have speculated whether these programmes might intersect, and it seems we now have clarity. Starring Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray, this heartwarming romance unfolds in Nova Scotia, centring on Kohan's character Maggie, a neurosurgeon who reconnects with her father Harry, known as Sully (Scott Patterson), whilst developing feelings for former lawyer California 'Cal' Jones (Murray). This seafood shack was Boston's only James Beard Award winner
Did a Southie seafood shack win the food world's Oscar equivalent? Yes, it did—and we're not mad about it! The James Beard Foundation handed out its highly coveted culinary awards in a splashy Chicago gala on Monday, June 16, and while the three Greater Boston finalists for the Restaurant and Chef Awards (Sarma 's Cassie Piuma for Outstanding Chef, Merai for Best New Bar, and Urban Hearth 's Erin Miller for Best Chef: Northeast) were sadly passed over, one unexpected local spot emerged victoriously. Last night might have been a complete shut out for Beantown's dining scene, but Sullivan's Castle Island in South Boston was happy to shoulder the burden as one of six restaurants awarded the annual America's Classics designation back in February. And anyone who has stood in the long line on opening day (typically after February school break) will agree the award is well-deserved for the seasonal spot—lovingly referred to as Sully's by locals—which has been a Boston institution since 1951, when Dan Sullivan, Sr. first opened it as a hot-dog stand. It's operated continuously by four generations of the Sullivan family ever since. As written by the James Beard Foundation on its award site, 'Every Bostonian has a story about Sully's—whether from working there after school as teenagers, having their sports team or fundraiser supported by Sully's, taking their children for some crinkle cuts like their grandparents took them, or simply enjoying it as a nostalgic seaside gathering place for locals.' Calling a trip to Sully's 'a rite of passage' for tourists and visitors, no Boston trip is complete without a stop at Sullivan's for a double smash burger with copious amounts of cheese, snappy hot dogs, thick crinkle-cut fries, fresh lobster rolls and other locally sourced seafood. Along with the seasonal outpost out on Castle Island, the restaurant also opened up a year-round location in Hanover Crossing in 2023. Not all locals were ignored this 2025 award season, though: One of our New England neighbors—Sky Haneul Kim of Gift Horse in Providence, Rhode Island—took home a James Beard medallion and a certificate for Best Chef: Northeast. Sullivan's U.S. Steel Tower location 'closed indefinitely'
Less than four years after opening in the U.S. Steel Tower, Sullivan's Steakhouse has 'closed indefinitely.' Initially, signage posted to the restaurant's door states that it 'will be closed for emergency maintenance' and that patrons should consider nearby sister restaurant Eddie Merlot's. When reached for comment, management for Eddie Merlot's confirmed that Sullivan's was 'closed indefinitely,' noting that they were unable to give a reason for the closing or comment further. Both restaurants are owned and operated by Denver-based Dividend Restaurant Group, which did not respond to a request for comment. Sullivan's website no longer lists the location alongside its 14 other restaurants across the country, and the webpage for the Pittsburgh location no longer exists. Sullivan's on Castle Island in Boston reopens for 2025 season to line around the block
Sullivan's on Castle Island is officially open again, and locals lined the block for the famous hot dogs. The restaurant expects to churn out over 1,000 hot dogs for their seasonal reopening. The restaurant recently won the James Beard Award for America's Classic in the Northeast Region. Sullivan's on Castle Island reopens On Saturday, Mayor Michelle Wu stopped by the iconic beach shack to declare the day "Sullivan's on Castle Island Day." "It's a special tradition, and my two boys have grown up since before they coming here, getting the fries and hot dogs, trying to get the seagulls to come to them as well and then getting to run around," said Mayor Wu. "It's an amazing place that builds so many traditions and memories for families all across the city and beyond." The line wrapped around the block, full of people eager to get their hands on the seasonal treats. "Mustard, relish, onion, a perfectly toasted bun, it's the best," said South Boston resident Chico. Owner Dan Sullivan said that the restaurant's success comes from his father's philosophy when he started the restaurant back in 1951. "Prices, quality and cleanliness," Sullivan said. "We've maintained that for the past 75 years, that's what it's all about." It's a sign of spring for Bostonians. Long-time customer Lorraine Bates said Sullivan's was the first thing she thought about when she woke up this morning. "Clams, onion rings, and hot dogs," she said. Lorraine has been enjoying Sullivan's for over 50 years now.
