Russians embrace Oman for culture, safety and investment

Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman is gaining increasing popularity among Russian tourists, students, and investors, thanks to its remarkable blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, safety, and welcoming atmosphere. Marta Paramonova, a student at the Sultan Qaboos Institute for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers in Manah, said her academic interest brought her to Oman. 'I was amazed by Oman's embrace of modern education and renewable energy while preserving its history,' she said, highlighting sites like Nizwa and Bahla Forts that reflect Omani pride in their cultural identity. In Dhofar, Russian tourists Ina and Yelena were equally captivated. 'The people are incredibly friendly and the beaches pristine,' said Ina. 'It feels like a fairytale,' added Yelena, praising Omani cuisine and Bedouin culture. Igor Igorov, head of the Russian community in Oman, said many Russians have made the Sultanate their home due to shared values and a strong sense of security. Over 50,000 Russian tourists now visit annually, with rising interest in real estate and tourism investments. Anna Popova, head of the Russian House, noted growing cultural exchange, including festivals, art exhibitions, and language programmes. A Russian-Omani business forum is planned for May 2025, further strengthening ties. With direct flights and deepening cooperation, Oman is becoming a hub for Russian engagement across sectors.
