Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. It is clear from the Sound Offs the readership of the Sun Herald includes people from the far right, far left and middle of the political spectrum. One of the things that is most to be treasured about democracy is that it encourages and enables citizens to peacefully express and debate their political positions, and to settle their political differences by peaceful voting. Political violence and corruption must be harshly squelched. Political tolerance must be encouraged and respected. If we support those aims, the USA and its democracy will survive and flourish. Trump is sending more ICE agents to cities run by Democrats. This is our first president who puts revenge before helping the American people. Driving would be much less stressful if I didn't have to tell all the other drivers how to drive. A $45 million parade waste. Where's Elon Musk when we need him? Trump uses small catchy slogans to describe everything. Like big beautiful, very bad. It's like he's dumbing down the English language for the impaired and uneducated. Trump is telling farmers that changes to immigration are coming. Everyone knew farmers depended on immigrants for harvesting. The problem with DOGE is that there was little thought put into the aftermath of firings. The same with deportations. All Congress had to do was create rules that give visas to essential workers. Why isn't O'Neal Road been repaired already? Plus, why are traffic lights being installed on O'Neal Road that are also close to old U.S. 49 and the railroad tracks? Can someone explain the hold up? Why release turtles in the Mississippi Sound? Wouldn't they have a better chance of surviving outside the barrier islands? The floods up north are still happening. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. Greta Thunberg, that perpetual teenage looking darling of the climate change ideologues, staged a publicity stunt with a one vessel boat flotilla purportedly trying to break Israel's maritime blockade of Gaza to bring relief aid. Well, she's an unemployed young lady now, who trades her infamy for sustenance so it's vitally important to stay in the public eye. A decade ago she told the world we were all going to die in seven years due to climate change. Instantly, she was the media and greenies public facing patron saint. Oops, we're still here which is a disastrous blow to her credibility. But a girl's gotta make a living, so she morphs into a different cause celebre. Go home Greta and plant a tree before we all die seven years from now. Greta Thunberg and her selfie yacht has been stopped by the IDF. The Israelis just saved her life. Being allowed to continue was suicide. Hamas would have paraded her for days What Kristi Noem said about presidential use of the National Guard: 'If Joe Biden federalizes the National Guard, that would be a direct attack on states' rights. Over the last several years, we've seen Democrats try to take away our Freedoms of religion, assembly, and speech. We can't let them take away our right to defend ourselves, too. South Dakota defends the Constitution.' An opinion writer expressed concern about district federal judges decision overreach. Why are they not concerned with firings at Consumer Protection Agency, or cutting funds for Public Broadcasting, or cutting funds for cancer research, or firing Inspector Generals or causing economic chaos with absurd tariffs, or on and on. If concerned about judges, reflect on Republican Judge Aileen Cannon's continuous delays in President Trump's prosecution and sentencing assuring he's not in jail but rather running for President. I guess that was OK. Hurricane-prone states have declared martial law after devastating hurricanes to federalize the national guard to assist local law enforcement. This drastic move gives the national guard additional powers, and is always done at the state's (governor's) request. Today the federal government is deploying and federalizing the national guard to repress protesters in California. The governor has not requested this assistance. Another similar occasion that comes to mind is the use of Storm Troopers and the SS in WWII. This is 2025 and our country is a republic where states have much autonomy. This is not a Nazi-controlled regime It's sad that media and Democrats' coverage of the 2020, 2024 and now 2025 riots all state how peaceful these protesters are while businesses, buildings, vehicles, and more are being destroyed by fire and police, if allowed to engage, are attacked. Few if any are arrested, and if they are, they are released soon after with no punitive action. It's time these destructive protesters are stopped, arrested and prosecuted. The Los Angeles police chief admitted that his police were overwhelmed. The National Guard was deployed. Now 800 Marines are on the way. Governor Newsom should be arrested immediately. Perhaps if we'd treat rioters the way they should be treated, there would be less rioting. Just a thought. California is a mess. Californians love the fact that they harbor illegal immigrants and are proud of it. They take in federal dollars yet deny federal authority. It doesn't work that way. The rioters in L.A. are burning Old Glory and swinging the Mexican flag, fighting to prevent being deported back to Mexico! Let that sink in. Democrats are pure genius. I applaud President Trump for moving to quash the violent protests happening in California. I only wish he had been inclined to do the same when it was his supporters on Jan. 6. It's kind of cute how worked up folks are about people waving the Mexican flag in the L.A. riots. It's also cute how unconcerned those same folks are when it's a Nazi or Confederate flag. Can't imagine why that would be. Opinion writer would like to know why Trump keeps giving pardons to his convicted fraudster friends. The answer is very simple. He pardons those who helped him commit his frauds. The list is long, and not just for fraud. Steve Bannon was convicted of embezzling hundreds of thousands from the build-the-fence contributions, plead guilty, and Trump pardoned him before jail time. Washington is now a cesspool with an impotent Congress afraid to stand up to moral responsibility in fear of losing their cherished jobs. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. My federal tax forms were filed on Feb. 6, and I was told the refund would take 'a few weeks.' Today is June 6, and still no refund. After repeatedly calling the 800 number, I personally drove to the local IRS office on Old Highway 49 in Gulfport. A security guard made me empty all my pockets and he frisked me. Then he sent me to the desk. The woman at the desk told me I had to call an 800 number to make an appointment. Is this any way to treat honest taxpayers? Orders and actions by the Trump Administration have been thwarted and obstructed by separate U.S. District Court judges around the country seven times in the past week alone. This was a publicly stated goal of left wing organizations during the election when it became clear that Trump would likely be elected. The American people are outraged by the blatant judicial overreach displayed by certain courts, issuing rulings far beyond their constitutional authority. This reckless abuse of power undermines the very foundation of our system of checks and balances and signals that parts of the judiciary have gone completely off the rails. If this continues unchecked, either the Supreme Court must intervene to restore order, or the people themselves will lose all confidence in the judiciary. Without accountability, even legitimate rulings on real crimes will be viewed with skepticism, threatening the rule of law itself. It matters not whether a judge is at the city level or a Supreme Court justice. Their job is to interpret the law and, ultimately, the constitution. Whether you, I or the president breaks the law, we are still subject to it and the ultimate law of the country, the constitution. I was wanting to give some information to the uninformed person who thinks law abiding citizens should be able to get full automatic weapons, since they say criminals have them. Law-abiding citizens already can get fully automatic weapons. They are just heavily regulated, limited in number, and very expensive. Criminals do not have them, and that is why we don't see them used in crimes. I apologize in advance for any harm caused by introducing facts and reality into your liberal echo chamber. The CDC says guns are the number one killer of children. Christians who claim to be pro-life need to really examine their position on gun safety regulations. How much money have you made betting on President Trump to flip-flop on tariffs? And if the answer is nothing, it's time to get on the train. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. Selena Gomez recently said about her dear friend Taylor Swift, 'We don't agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.' Oh that liberals and conservatives could relate to one another like that! Our nation would be infinitely better off. The judicial overreach by liberal Democrat judges is simple. How can a city or county circuit judge rule over the entire United States of America? Doesn't make sense. Former president Bill Clinton stated that he did not see any cognitive decline in Joe Biden. Must be true because everybody knows Bill would never tell a lie. The denizens of the deep state are finally emerging from the depths of the swamp. They are the appointees of the Trump administration. The Supreme Court just blocked an attempt to ban legal purchase of semiautomatic weapons. Now they need to get rid of the block on automatic weapons. Criminals have them, so law abiding citizens should be able to get them. Criminals shouldn't have an advantage over law abiding citizens. I generally understand the theories of how we can increase revenues to the federal treasury. We can create growth with reductions in tax, federal waste, reform and any other program that we can introduce hoping to that end result. What I do not understand is, if it does work, how are we going to stop Congress from spending all that savings and not using any of it to actually pay down the existing debt. Let's add an amendment to any new legislation making it mandatory the savings apply only to old debt. The president, and FOX Entertainment should be ashamed for their absence of integrity and morals. You'd think that an educated Republican would see the collusion between lying FOX News and President Trump's placement of unqualified FOX News and entertainment anchors on his Cabinet and even watchdog agencies. It was disappointing to see a post in which the writer was promoting anger. This individual didn't agree with the idea there was a store trailer a few feet from a 'no mobile vending' sign. This person asks in the post 'where is your anger, people'? I agree with the main point of the post. But anger? Why does any disagreement bring anger, let alone such a petty issue. I had no intention of voting in the Gulfport mayoral race this year. As a result of the shenanigans of last week I have changed my mind. I have decided to go vote and hold my nose as I mark my ballot. I don't know if the billing department for the Gulfport water department is disorganized or technologically outdated, but once again I've gotten a late bill with 2 payments due. If local elections didn't allow a candidate to identify with a party, none of the absolute garbage and insanity would be going on in Gulfport. There is no need for party identification on the local level. Cities here are small enough that a candidate can campaign without such attachment for funding. The party ideology has no place in running our cities. This election is a perfect example of how asinine it is to attach yourself so vehemently to a party. Residents can't make a reasonably good choice because the waters are so muddy you don't know who these people really are to even make a decent decision. A GOP senator was defending cuts to Medicaid saying 'we are all going to die.' Yes, but we want to be cared for until the end. Maybe they will legalize euthanasia next. Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. If you were ever thinking about traveling to Canada, you should be doing that right now. The exchange rate now is one Canadian dollar to 73 U.S. cents. That means if you want to buy some item or some service like a hotel night in Canada that cost $100 in their currency, the actual cost to you in U.S. dollars is $73. One American dollar equals 19 Mexican pesos, but since 2024 the State Department has cautions about travel to Mexico regarding violent crime and kidnapping potential. They also have 'do not travel' to Venezuela for any reason advisories plus cautions about its border with Colombia and Brazil. It seems all that the Democrats can offer is to call President Trump ugly names. President Trump reposted a comment on social media that claims Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced by a clone. Looks like social media has replaced the National Enquirer and other magazines they used to sell at the supermarkets. The one thing Gulfport does not need is more of the same billionaire and millionaire Trump puppets in Mississippi. The only tool average citizens have to fight for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is with the vote. The federal government has no business funding Planned Parenthood to the tune of multiple millions of dollars annually. It's not an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars. We've been told since the sixties that abortion is strictly a medically private matter between a woman and her doctor. That standard alone means public tax dollars should not be funding it. There are private practices in nearly every state should a woman want this procedure. Go there, pay for it yourself or get private donations. Planned Parenthood has expanded its services to trans individuals. What does that have to do with planning for parenthood or abortion? The rest of us don't get federally funded plastic or cosmetic surgery. Save up your personal coins. I called 911 because I needed help lifting my husband off the floor after falling. They responded in minutes and were very professional. Thanks guys. Our tax money working for us. Anyone notice how quiet the media is regarding the ongoing destruction of Gaza. The reason is media is not allowed. This is America's true deep state at work controlling honest media, and its not Democrats. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@
