Nitish Kumar Reddy reveals Pat Cummins' role in his success as pacer at Lord's: ‘He told me it's not going to be…'

When England asked India to bowl at the Lord's Cricket Ground in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, one expected wickets to come through Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, or Akash Deep. However, the first two wickets for the visitors came after one hour of toiling on Day 1 and it came through the most unexpected source. Nitish Kumar Reddy stood up for Shubman Gill's India in his very first over as he dismissed openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley. Nitish Kumar Reddy spoke about how Pat Cummins helped him in making his bowling better. (BCCI- X) It would be fair to say that Nitish Kumar Reddy was the pick of the Indian bowlers on Day 1 of the Lord's Test. He outbowled Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash Deep. Speaking to reporters after the close of play on Day 1, Reddy credited bowling coach Morne Morkel and his SunRisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins for his improvement with the ball. India captain Shubman Gill introduced Nitish Kumar Reddy into the attack in the 14th over, and he bowled nearly 14 overs on the opening day of the Test against England. He was able to get more swing off the wicket than the pace trio of Bumrah, Akash, and Siraj. 'After the Australia tour, I felt like I had to improve my bowling and my consistency. That's what I looked about. And yeah, Pat is my captain, and he's been brilliant in Australia, and I have asked him some tips, and he has been telling me how things would've been done in Australia, how I can go about it in Australia. And that's a great experience for me, sharing with Pat Cummins,' Reddy told reporters. This is my first tour. He said, 'It's not going to be a different change. You just watch the weather conditions and just play your game. Just try to learn as much as you can',' he added. 'Morne Morkel has been great' Reddy also said that working with bowling coach Morkel has done wonders for him and that he is really enjoying working with the former South African speedster. 'Coming to this tour, I would say, working with Morne Morkel has been great for me. He's working with me for a couple of weeks, and we are seeing good progress in my bowling, and I'm really enjoying working with him,' said Nitish Reddy. Before the series against England began, Nitish Reddy played for India A against the England Lions and also participated in the intra-squad match. "We've been working on my consistency a lot since I get a bit of swing both ways," Reddy said. 'I just want to be consistent on the areas. So we are working on that. I've been working hard on my bowling for one year or two years,' said Reddy. 'I've been doing a lot of hard work, but later on it is about understanding things and believing in myself. If you believe, that's when your hard work comes on point. That's what I'm realising now,' he added. After opting to bat first, England reached the score of 251/4 at stumps on Day 1. Joe Root and Ben Stokes are unbeaten for the hosts on 99 and 39 respectively.

IND vs ENG: Pat Cummins tips to bowl in England helped Nitish Reddy

Bowling advice shared by Aussies pacers is helping the Indian bowlers in England. Josh Hazelwood's tip of 'sticking to strengths and waiting for batsmen to make mistakes' came in handy for Akash Deep when he had a match-haul of 10 wickets in the the second Test at Edgbaston. Now all-rounder Nitish Reddy went on to mention his IPL franchise Sun Risers Hyderabad captain, the Aussie great Pat Cummins, after he got the wickets of England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley on Day 1 of the Lord's Test. 'After the Australia tour I felt like I have to improve my bowling. I just asked Pat what's the difference between Australia and England since this is my first tour. He said that it's not going to be like a different change but you watch about the weather conditions and just play your game,' said Reddy at the post-match press conference after England finished at 251/4. The all-rounder was also asked about the possibility of him getting 5 wickets and getting his name on the Lord's honour board. To which he replied, 'Since I got some bit of swing both ways and I just want to be consistent over all areas. I have been doing a lot of hard work ,,, I have to believe in myself. I would be so happy if I got named on the board.' Reddy also recalled his days of injury and recovery. 'Initially they asked you to take it easy but I gradually increased workload during the IPL. To be honest, after the injury it has been a bit tough for me to get on my rhythm. Obviously I got a side strain and it has been hurting me a bit after the injury as well. So at the end of the IPL season I got my bowling and started going to the matches,' he answered. 'I am pretty happy the way I bowled today and I just want to continue tomorrow and get some wickets from the team.' Reddy also said that he wasn't too mindful of the Lord's slope and how it impacted his bowling. 'I don't know about the slope and much but from that end (Nursery end) when I bowled it has been moving a lot and after pitching also it is going good. And I feel great about bowling that end,' he replied. The pace all-rounder also shared the wisdom shared by his seniors Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. ''They always speak about being consistent. It isn't just about bowling those good balls. We are playing against top-class batsmen as well. It's not like if you bowl an in-swinger or an out-swinger, you are getting a wicket. So we just keep simple plans,' he said.

ENG vs IND: Captain Shubman Gill shines as Nitish Reddy gamble pays off at Lord's

Shubman Gill showcased his decision-making prowess on Day 1 of the third Test against England at Lord's. The Indian captain's bold call to bring on part-time pacer Nitish Kumar Reddy shortly after the first hour proved inspired. After England's openers had seen off the new-ball trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, they appeared to relax - only to be undone by the part-timer, who dismissed both in the same was introduced in the 14th over, immediately after a drinks break and a brief team huddle. The SunRisers Hyderabad all-rounder struck with just his second delivery - one angled down the leg side that cramped Ben Duckett for room. His very next delivery, to new batter Ollie Pope, held its line and took the outside edge. The ball flew to the gully region but dropped just short of captain Gill, who dived full stretch in an effort to take the catch. However, Nitish didn't have to wait long for his second. Just one ball later, he removed Zak Crawley with a peach - a good-length delivery that moved away, kissed the edge, and was neatly pouched by Pant. ‘Not greedy for records': Rishabh Pant shuts down Harry Brook's ‘What's your fastest 100' swipe while batting

England were in to have a taste of their own medicine as India continued to pile on the runs during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, prompting batter Harry Brook to switch to mind games to try and derail wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant during his enthralling boundary-fest on Saturday. Brook's cheeky swipe received a firm response from Pant, who refused to be swayed by the Englishman's question between deliveries. Brook attempted to get into Pant's mind, quizzing him about his fastest Test hundred. 'In Test cricket, maybe 80-90 minutes,' replied Pant after Brook popped the 'What's your fastest 100' question. Brook intriguingly chose to remind Pant of his fastest hundred in 55 balls that came in the IPL 2023 season with the SunRisers Hyderabad. 'The fastest hundred I have ever done in 55 balls; you can do that today,' said Brook as he attempted to egg on the India wicket-keeper to switch into ultra-aggression and commit a mistake. 'It's okay. Not very greedy for records. If it happens, it happens,' a level-headed Pant responded. Records? #RishabhPant's reply will win your respect. 🙌#HarryBrook asked about the fastest hundred and Pant's response was pure humility. 💯✨#ENGvIND 👉 2nd TEST, Day 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar ➡ — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 5, 2025 Pant proceeded to smear a quick-fire half-century, scoring 65 off 58 balls with eight fours and three sixes. Led by captain Shubman Gill's second century of the match, a blazing 161 of 162 deliveries, India set a colossal 608-run target for England. Pant, who has struck six fifty-plus scores in his last seven innings in England, broke a heap of big-hitting records during the innings. Pant became the first Asian wicket-keeper to record 2000 runs in SENA Tests. The left-hander has struck 23 sixes in Tests in England, the most by any batter in an away country. Pant shored up his career Test sixes to 86. Only Virender Sehwag (90) and Rohit Sharma (88) have recorded more sixes in the format for India. Brook and England will now have to do the heavy lifting on the final day with Pant behind the stumps, as the hosts slipped to 72 for three on Day 4. With 536 runs required for victory, England will resume play with first-innings centurion Brook and Ollie Pope at the crease.
